“Promoting Work-Life Balance: Strategies for Improving Employee Well-Being and Company Success”

Please reply to this discussion post, only need 150 words or less
    Ajdin Mehmedovic

    Hello everyone,
    Maintaining a work-life balance is essential for a company’s
success. Employees who feel valued and well-rested tend to work harder
and produce better output. However, there is still a debate on what
work-life balance means. Should it only include paid labor or factor in
family, community, and friendships? This question has been a research
topic for years, and many companies still struggle to find a good
    balance, affecting employees’ overall well-being.
Heterosexual women are the most vulnerable group when it comes
to work-life balance. They often have to juggle work responsibilities,
caring for their children, and other household chores. Companies must
broaden their HR policies to address this issue and promote fairness and
diversity. For instance, companies should allow employees to take time
off for personal reasons, even if they don’t have paid time off (PTO) or
are not going on maternity leave. Although some may abuse this policy,
it will improve most employees’ mental health and performance.
Other countries, such as Australia, have implemented laws and
acts to improve work-life balance. For example, they allow part-time
work, time off for family and children, and the ability to negotiate
deadlines without consequences. The United States should also consider
implementing similar policies to make employees happier, healthier, and
    more satisfied.
Electronics, such as smartphones and laptops, can also hinder
work-life balance. Employees often feel pressured to check their emails
and websites outside of work hours, affecting their mental well-being.
To address this issue, HR and management should enforce the rule that
work should only be done during work hours and that employees should
only be expected to answer the company’s needs and demands during work
    hours.
To improve work-life balance, I recommend educating HR and
management on its importance and enforcing policies that promote it. I
would conduct research and present it to the team with a PowerPoint
presentation. On-going monitoring should include surveys,
    questionnaires, and quarterly performance check-ins.

“Drug Chronicles: Unveiling Patterns and Narratives” Drug Chronicles: Unveiling Patterns and Narratives A Visual Representation of the Demographics of Drug Users Drug use has been a prevalent issue in society for decades, with different drugs being Title: The Evolution of Drug Consumption and the War on Drugs: A Timeline Analysis and Media Critique

Please note:  In addition to textbook chapters 1-6, there are additional supplemental materials that will take approximately four hours to read/watch/listen to in preparation for this first assignment. Start your assignments early so that you are sure you are allowing enough time to adequately complete your work!
Materials for Assignment #1 Include the Textbook Chapters and All of the Below Supplemental Resources (everyone of these supplemental resources must be integrated/incorporated into this assignment by themes – do not use direct quotes):
    1.  Quick Views on Mass Incarceration (yes, you are to incorporate the material from these sources also in completing the below): The War on Drugs From Prohibition to Gold RushLinks to an external site. (4 minutes), Demographics of Mass Incarceration and the Impact of Drug LawsLinks to an external site. (3 minutes), Mass Incarceration VisualizedLinks to an external site. (3 minutes), War on Drugs: Crash CourseLinks to an external site. (13 minutes)
    2.  Vox. The war on drugs, explainedLinks to an external site. (article)
This article provides an excellent overview of the war on drugs and provides excellent background for the entire course. Yes, there is a lot of information in this article including links to other sources. I expect you to review the material provided here in preparation to completing this application assignment and incorporate this material into complete the below.
    3.  This is a 40 minute interview with Michelle Alexander, author of The New Jim Crow.  The link to the transcript is also provided if you prefer to read the interview (https://www.npr.org/transcripts/145175694Links to an external site.).

Assignment “Drug Chronicles: Unveiling Patterns and Narratives”
Objective: Complete a comprehensive exploration of drug use, its historical context, the war on drugs, user demographics, and the portrayal of drugs in the media. This assignment encourages a creative and analytical approach to understanding drug-related phenomena. This assignment aims to blend creativity with analysis, allowing you to engage with the intricate narratives surrounding drug use, history, the war on drugs, user demographics, and media representations.
You must include specific themes, concepts, material from the provided supplemental materials and the textbook when completing the assignment . . . comprehensively. So, for example, when doing #2 below, you will need to create the timeline using your textbook and supplement with key events as depicted in the supplemental materials. Do not use direct quotes as that does not demonstrate your understanding and do not use sources not provided in the class (refer to note below) as this again does not demonstrate understanding of the course materials.
Note: As #1 and #2 below require a “visual representation” and “visual timeline” – you are welcome to use pictures from basic Google searches that you find that are outside of the class materials, but as to actual content to complete steps 1-4 below, rely exclusively on the textbook chapters and the above supplemental materials.
    Instructions:
A Visual Representation of the Demographics of Drug Users (use Chapters 2 and 5 in your textbook and relevant information from supplemental sources):  Design a poster or presentation that explores the demographics of drug users. Illustrate who uses which drugs and why, using images, icons, and concise text to convey key insights.  Incorporate the material/themes/concepts from Chapters 2 & 5 in your work on this section and clearly cite all sources.
A Comprehensive Historical Timeline of Drug Use and the War on Drugs (use material in Chapters 3 & 4 and the above supplemental materials):  Create a visual timeline that includes: a) the history of drug use and b) key moments in the historical development of the war on drugs. For every single element included on this timeline, provide the source (for example:  Prohibition (textbook chapter 3, Vox article, Prohibition to Gold Rush, and Crash Course)). Then explain these key moments, key individuals, and cultural shifts that have influenced the evolution of drug consumption and the war on drugs. Intertwine facts, dates, major policies, laws, etc.  Explain these pivotal moments in your timeline by explaining the relevance of the laws, dates, etc. that you included.
The War on Drugs: Discuss the “war on drugs” – highlight the successes and failures of the war on drugs. Do you believe that this “war” was on drugs? If yes, explain.  If no, what do you believe it is a “war” on and why? What is the impact on society in general on the underclass, the middle class, and the upper class of the law enforcement model and the war on drugs? Please note that you are not limited to answer just this prompt . . . it is just that, a prompt. It is a start, to get you thinking, giving you the opportunity to build, critically assess and critique the required materials and the textbook.
Voices in the Media: An Analysis (focus on Chapter 6 though not limited exclusively to this chapter): Choose a specific example of popular media (can be a show, podcast, book, article, movie, etc . . . you get the idea), like a specific episode of NYPD Blue, and apply the concepts from Chapter 6 and the course material to critically assess the media. For example, the demographics of a typical drug use (Q1 above) compared to how drug users are depicted in the episode you selected, critique in terms of bias, etc. Have fun with this section. Yes, it will have to be a form of popular media that actually has somethings to do with drugs but that should be easy to find! Begin by explaining and linking to the source (episode, podcast, article, book, etc.) that you used. Use material from the class and do not merely summarize an example of drug use in popular media.
    Submission Guidelines:
Include a list of references – double-check:  did you use all of the required sources in completing your assignment?
Clearly label each section in your assignment.
Ensure that your visual elements are clear, viewable, and relevant to the topics discussed.
Upload only ONE document to the assignment upload link. I recognize you will likely be using different software to complete the above tasks and suggest that you merely print each section then scan into one pdf document to upload (you can make a scan/pdf on your phone). Allow adequate time to upload the document and double-check that it is submitted.

Evaluate how free speech rights clash with the rights of others and the need for public order today.
Argue for or against the regulation of the First Amendment when it comes to speech that could or might incite “imminent lawless action or conduct.”

Evaluate the fairness of the common law defense of necessity when citizens use deadly force.

“Analyzing the Powers and Responsibilities of Local Officials” City Government Powers and Responsibilities Assignment “Exploring the Government and History of San Antonio” Introduction: San Antonio, a vibrant city located in southern Texas, has a rich history and a diverse population. As the second most populous city in the state, it is known for its vibrant

Purpose:  As you learned in this module, local governments are separate from the state government and each other. The purpose of this assignment is for you to review the powers and responsibilities of local officials.
This is a critical thinking assignment – i.e. analyze and evaluate the information before you make a judgment. Critical thinking is one of the skills you are supposed to develop in college no matter what your major is.
This assignment is worth 20 points.
    Please follow this format:
Copy the question in bold font and then type the answer below it in regular font. Do this for each individual question.
Put a blank line in between your answers.
Do not highlight any portion of your assignment.
Do not give your assignment file a long name.
Do not include spaces when naming your assignment file.
    Instructions:
    Read the following instructions carefully.
    Part A:
Step #1: Read this: County Officials
This assignment requires you to apply what you are learning, so the answers will not be written straight out of the file above. You need to first understand what each power/responsibility listed for each official(s) mean. The readings in the textbook will help with that if you need further examples of what is written in the slides.
    Step #2:
To which elected county official should one go to for the following? What specific power or responsibility makes this official the correct person to go to?
The elected county officials you are to choose from for this assignment are the ones discussed in the County Officials handout.
You do not need to put the name of the official, just his/her title (e.g. county judge, etc.).
Do not list all the powers and responsibilities of the official. If you do so otherwise, your response will be marked wrong. The whole purpose of the assignment is for you to determine which specific power or responsibility makes this official the correct person to go to.
You can use the same official more than once.
Each question is worth 2 points.
If you got the “Official” portion wrong, then the “Power/Responsibility” portion of your answer will also be marked wrong for that question.
If you got the “Power/Responsibility” portion wrong but got the “Official” portion correct, then you will be awarded 1 point for that question.
Please number your responses and follow the assignment format below.
    Example:
    pay your property tax bill
    Official – tax-assessor collector
    Power/Responsibility – collects county’s property taxes
The tax assessor-collector is responsible for collecting the county’s property taxes. Unless the mortgage on your house has an escrow account (i.e. This is the dedicated amount you pay for your property taxes and home owner’s insurance.), then you will need to go or send a check to the tax assessor-collector’s office to pay your property tax bill.
Note: You do not need to explain your answer for this assignment.
You live in the neighborhood of Alamo Ranch, which is an unincorporated area in Bexar County. To which elected county official should you go to for assistance on the following issues?
    1. get a copy of the birth certificate of your child, who was born in Bexar County, so you can enroll him for kindergarten
Official – type the title of the official here
Power/Responsibility – type the specific power here
    2. express support for putting up traffic lights at a busy intersection in the neighborhood
    Official –
    Power/Responsibility –
    3. get speed bumps put in front of the elementary school in the neighborhood
    Official –
    Power/Responsibility –
    4. complain about how long it took for the county deputies to respond to your burglary call when your car was broken into at the movie theatre parking lot in the neighborhood
    Official –
    Power/Responsibility –
    5. challenge a speeding ticket issued by a county deputy while you were driving to the grocery store in the neighborhood
    Official –
    Power/Responsibility –
    Part B:
Step #1: Read this: Forms of City Governments
This assignment requires you to apply what you are learning, so the answers will not be written straight out of the file above. You need to first understand what each power/responsibility listed for each official(s) mean. The readings in the textbook will help with that if you need further examples of what is written in the slides.
    Step #2:
To which city official should one go to for the following? What specific power or responsibility makes this official the correct person to go to?
The city officials you are to choose from for this assignment are the ones discussed in the Forms of City Government handout.
Do not list all the powers and responsibilities of the official. If you do so otherwise, your response will be marked wrong. The whole purpose of the assignment is for you to determine which specific power or responsibility makes this official the correct person to go to.
You can use the same official more than once.
NOTE: Individual city departments are not possible answers for this assignment.
    Example:
You live in the city of San Antonio. It uses the council-manager form of city government. You want to complain about the fireworks ban in the city. You don’t think it’s fair that your family can’t light fireworks for the Fourth of July.
    Official – mayor and council
    Power/Responsibility – adopt ordinances
Fireworks bans are examples of city ordinances (i.e. city laws). The city of San Antonio uses the council-manager form of city government. Looking at the Forms of City Governments handout, we can see that in a council-manager form of city government, the mayor and council have the power to adopt city ordinances. Therefore, the mayor and council were the ones that passed the fireworks ban ordinance. They will then have to pass another ordinance getting rid of this ban, if they choose to do so.
Note: You do not need to explain your answer for this assignment.
    1. You live in the city of Houston. It uses the strong-mayor council form of city government. You want to express support for the city’s gun buyback program. A gun buyback program is when a government asks citizens to turn in their guns in exchange for money. Gun owners are not forced to sell their guns.
    Official –
    Power/Responsibility –
    2. You live in the city of Houston. It uses the strong-mayor council form of city government. You want the pot holes on downtown streets fixed.
    Official –
    Power/Responsibility –
    3. You live in the city of White Oak. It uses the weak-mayor council form of city government. You want the city to hire more police officers as a response to the increased crime rate in the city.
    Official –
    Power/Responsibility –
    4. You live in the city of Leon Valley. It uses the council-manager form of city government. You would like to make homeless camps illegal in the city.
    Official –
    Power/Responsibility –
    5. You live in the city of Helotes. It uses the council-manager form of city government. You want to complain about the increased traffic on your street caused by people living in a nearby unincorporated area. These drivers are using your street as a short cut to bypass the traffic on a main road. You would like to make it illegal for non-residents, non-visitors, and non-delivery personnel to use your street.
    Official –
    Power/Responsibility –
    Bonus Question (2 points):
This portion of the assignment is optional. You will not be penalized if you get it wrong. Partial credit is possible. Each question is worth 1 point.
    1. get a copy of the transcripts of your child custody case heard at the district court
    Official –
    Power/Responsibility –
    2. complain about how there’s only a few dog parks in the city of San Antonio
    Official –
    Power/Responsibility –

From chapters 1 and 2 (hello writer, these chapters from the textbook are attached). Please create a new thread and respond to each of the following questions in a single post answering each question individually.
What are the development stages a firm typically goes through as it grows internationally and how does each stage affects the HR function?
Describe and define international HRM; PCN; HCN; and TCN.
What are the specific challenges of a networked firm?
List each heading to you know when the criteria is met in APA Format with 2 references.
Global and international courses must use current resources – 2009 to current – as the global community is ever evolving.
Articles from 2009 – present only. Use your online library.  No Wikipedia, BLOGS with Ads from Yahoo, UK Essay Buzzle.com, or sites that challenge as they present a biased opinion. Google Scholar is accepted. Works in APA Format with a minimum of 2 references.
    Here is the classmates discussion:
    Hello Professor and class,
When a firm expands its operations internationally, it typically progresses through several development stages, each impacting the human resource management function in distinct ways. Understanding these stages and their implications on HR helps in crafting effective international HR strategies.
Development Stages of International Firms and Impact on HR
Export Stage: Initially, companies start by exporting their products without significant investment in the foreign countries. The HR function at this stage involves basic support for international trade compliance and perhaps managing a small export sales team.
Foreign Sales Subsidiary: As the market grows, firms may establish a sales subsidiary in the foreign market. This requires HR to recruit local sales and marketing teams and manage more complex employee relations issues in a different legal and cultural environment.
Production Facilities Abroad: Establishing production facilities involves a significant expansion of HR functions, including large-scale staffing, development of local management, and extensive training and integration efforts. HR must address local labor laws, customs, and practices, making it a critical player in the success of these facilities.
Transnational Operations: At this stage, the firm operates with a geocentric outlook, sourcing the best talent globally without bias towards any particular nationality. HR in this stage must manage a diverse workforce, often comprising employees from multiple countries, and ensure effective communication and collaboration across cultural boundaries (Dowling et al., 2013).
Definitions and Descriptions in International HRM
International Human Resource Management (IHRM) involves managing the diverse needs of the workforce in multinational corporations, including recruitment, compensation, performance management, and employee development across different countries. IHRM must consider multiple external factors such as different employment laws, cultural norms, and economic conditions (Scullion & Collings, 2011).
PCN (Parent-Country National): Employees who are citizens of the country where the headquarters of the multinational company is located, but who work in one of its operations located in another country. For example, a U.S. citizen working for a U.S.-based company in Germany.
HCN (Host-Country National): Employees who are citizens of the country where the multinational company is operating. For example, a German citizen working for a U.S.-based company in Germany.
TCN (Third-Country National): Employees who are citizens of a country that is neither the parent country nor the host country of their employer. For example, a British citizen working for a U.S.-based company in Germany.
    Challenges of a Networked Firm
A networked firm, often characterized by a flexible and adaptive organizational structure to facilitate rapid responses to global market dynamics, faces unique HR challenges:
Managing Cultural Diversity: Integrating and managing a diverse workforce with varying cultural, linguistic, and professional backgrounds. HR must foster an inclusive environment that respects cultural differences and leverages them for innovation (Reiche et al., 2016).
Communication Across Borders: Ensuring effective communication in a networked firm where teams are often spread across multiple locations is crucial. HR must implement robust communication tools and protocols.
Aligning Global Objectives with Local Practices: Balancing the global corporate strategy with local practices and regulations can be challenging. HR needs to ensure that local practices comply with global HR policies while also respecting local norms and laws (Farndale et al., 2010).
Talent Mobility: Managing the logistics and regulations of cross-border employee transfers, including issues related to immigration, tax, and employee willingness to relocate.
By understanding these complexities and implementing strategic HR practices tailored to each stage of international growth, companies can better manage their international operations.
