ASSIGNMENT: For this project, you will learn how to effectively plan, design, develop, and test an original program of your choosing. This program is your choice and it can be as complex as you wish. The goal is to start with an idea for your program and then step through the process of most phases of the development lifecycle to turn your idea into an actual program. This includes planning out the algorithm using pseudocode, coding your program using everything you learned from Units 1-3, and finally testing and debugging your program to make sure it fulfills your intended purpose. Being able to create your own program can be beneficial in any career field. Anything that can be programmed or automated in any industry could make your work a lot easier. Even as a hobby, it can give you a reference point to have a better understanding of how to deal with common issues. Using basic Python to automate menial tasks can save you time and money! Whether you were in this class to learn programming at a professional level or if it’s just for fun, you will benefit from learning coding as a foundation of your technical skills.
For this Touchstone, you will fill out a journal (template link below) which has five sections that correspond to the five steps you will complete for your final project. Use this template to write your journal responses for each section of the project. When you have finished, you will submit this journal as a Word .doc/docx.

A. Directions
Step 1: Download and review the Python Journal Template.
Step 2: Review section C (Requirements) to get acquainted with the requirements for this Touchstone before you begin writing your journal entries.
Step 3: Follow the directions for each part of the journal template. Make sure to include in your response all the elements listed under the Requirements section. Prompts in the Inspiration section are not required; however, they may help you to fully think through your response.
Follow the journal creation process that is presented in your Unit 4 lessons to ensure you write a thorough journal entry. There is also an example of a successful journal entry for each submission in Example Python Journal Submission.
Review section B (Rubric) to make sure you have an understanding of how each journal entry will be graded.
Step 4: Once your journal is complete, including the code link, submit your journal for grading.

Requirements
The following requirements must be met for your submission:
Use a readable 11- or 12-point font.
All writing must be appropriate for an academic context. Follow academic writing conventions (correct grammar, spelling, punctuation, and formatting).
Journal entries must be original and written for this assignment; plagiarism of any kind is strictly prohibited.
Submission must include your name and the date (included in the template).
Include all of the journal parts in a single file. Acceptable file formats include .doc and .docx.
Include your Replit Share link at the appropriate location in the journal template.

You must analyze the short story “The Cask of Amontillado” by Edgar Allan Poe
Please make sure to follow these guidelines
**Your research paper must be argument-based and centered on the selected short story and one of the literary criticism approaches discussed earlier in the course. The paper should include the following elements:
-Thesis Statement: Your thesis statement should be a clear argument that incorporates one of the schools of literary criticism. It should be developed based on your analysis of the chosen short story and should guide the rest of your paper.
-Length: The paper should be approximately 1,500 words in length.
-Academic Style: Follow the Modern Language Association (MLA) Style for formatting and citations.
-Required Sources: Use a minimum of three peer-reviewed secondary sources in addition to the primary source (the short story itself). Each source can be cited up to three times in your paper.
-Required Elements: Ensure that your paper includes a topic sentence, a title, academic peer-reviewed sources, and formal language.

Purpose
This assignment is designed to teach you the following:
Gathering secondary and primary research
Analyzing the communication strategies of a specific cultural group
Applying business writing principles
Writing a professional email that is clear and concise
Scenario
The executives at your financial investment firm need more information on how to make a positive impression on their potential new clients. They have asked you to send them an email describing their potential clients’ communication preferences. They have specifically asked you to research and report on these three topics:
Medium preferences. You are expected to describe which mediums business executives use and avoid while communicating in your clients’ culture.
Business presentation preferences. You are expected to focus on how one should adapt a business presentation with a slide deck in that culture. You should not write about how people conduct business meetings because you have already explained this in your presentation. 
Business writing preferences. You are expected to explain the unique writing behaviors of that culture. You should also describe how one should follow-up in writing after a meeting.
Remember that the potential clients speak English, so the executives won’t need to translate any information for their clients.
Your email will address the best business practices of the country you have already researched and presented on (Colombia, Brazil, Mexico, South Korea, Singapore, China, Italy, Sweden, Turkey, the United Arab Emirates, Israel, Kenya, or Nigeria). You should not choose a different country.
Your Task
Write a professional email in which you address the three topics the executives requested. Your analysis should be based on your knowledge of these cultural dimensions: high vs. low context, individualism vs collectivism, power distance, uncertainty avoidance, time orientation, assertiveness, and verbal and nonverbal communication. You are free to give a brief explanation of these subjects in order to explain or give evidence to your recommendations. You should not repeat information that you have already provided in your presentation.
Here is how to proceed:
Review the insert “How to Write Effective Emails” (between pages 84 and 85 in the paper textbook) to check the format of business emails. Your email will include a subject line, a formal salutation, the body of the message, a complimentary close, and a signature block.
Use the principles of business writing to deliver a message that is professional, clear, concise, and free of grammatical and mechanical errors. Follow the principles of business communication referred to in previous modules.
Use a minimum of three sources. This will help you ensure that the information you found is accurate.
Consider using bullets, numbered lists, headers, and other visuals to create a document that is easy to navigate. Note that you will need to write paragraphs following the principles of business communication. Your message should not primarily consists of bullet points.
Link your sources in the body of your message to provide citations.

Directions:

Your goal is take notes following the above lecture materials on researching and writing an article analysis, and then to put those notes together in a detailed summary and evaluation of the assigned article.The paper itself should follow this order (remember that sections like the Introduction can be longer than one paragraph–you start a new paragraph when you begin a new idea or take on a new perspective!):
1. Introduction
a. Hook: The opening sentences identify the topic and purpose of your paper (avoid using “I will write….” or other first person expressions in APA). While clever or entertaining openings are welcome, they must fit the tone and audience for your work. And so, since you are analyzing this article for other researchers, you would avoid jokes, incendiary remarks or direct quotations unrelated to the topic.
b. Exigence: Once you have identified the topic, what has motivated the researchers to tackle this topic? What are the pressing issues either within the field of study or the public at large that makes this topic of immediate concern?
c. Debate: What are the identified problems or debates that have arisen around this topic, as identified by the authors? How do the researchers see their work fitting into this conversation?
d. Thesis: What is the overall quality of the research done?
2. Summary
a. Background: What information is provided by the literature review about how this topic has been studied? What are the recurring ideas, themes, or methods that have been identified in the literature review?
b. Methodology: How did the researchers undertake their study? How does this method of study fit into the overall history of research provided in the literature review?
c. Results: What does the reader learn from this study? How confident are the researchers in their results? What is the apparent benefit of their research as they have identified in the conclusion?
3. Analysis [the order of strengths and weaknesses will depend on whether you are mostly positive (end with strengths) or mostly negative (end with weaknesses) of the article’s quality]
a. Limitations: What are the identified limitations or problems listed by the authors? How accurate or reliable are the identified limitations?
b. Strengths: What does the research study and report do well in communicating with the audience of the article? How does the article compare positively to other research studies on the subject? (feel free to use articles listed in the literature review as your own source material)
c. Weaknesses: What does the research study and report do poorly in communicating with the audience of the article? How does the article compare negatively to other research studies on the subject? (feel free to use articles listed in the literature review as your own source material)
4. Conclusion: What does the reader learn from the research study? What does the article contribute to the study of the subject? What should future studies investigate?
Requirements: 
Word Count: A minimum of 1500 words.
A clearly articulated thesis statement that evaluates the article’s strengths and weaknesses.
Following the organizational format above.
A minimum of four scholarly sources, including the article being analyzed.
APA formatting throughout, including a title page and References page.
