Internal Factors Analysis Summary (IFAS) for Chipotle Mexican Grill through 2013 Quantitative Analysis and Ranking of Strategic Factors for Firm Survival

Objective: Develop an Internal Factors Analysis Summary (IFAS) for Chipotle
    Mexican Grill through 2013.
Internal factors are those the firm has control over. I will be doing
reality checks when reading your work, asking, “Does the firm control this
activity or not?” For instance, a firm has control over the dates to
release new products, or what products to sell each year. But, the firm does
not control the economic conditions that would determine the demand for those
    products.
Fill in the table in TemplateSA-EXH2-IFAS.docx available in this
location and Course Resources. The table has five columns: Internal Factors,
Weight, Rating, Weighted Score and Comments.
Use short names for the factors, but flesh them out in the comments so they
make sense when you approach them later on. A generically named factor can be
listed on both the EFAS and IFAS so long as the comments made the difference
clear between the two. But a wiser student would modify the names so this
    situation does not arise.
The textbook is clear enough to work on all columns but the Comments. Your
comments make all the difference in the quality of the EFAS.
Use the TemplateSA-EXH2-IFAS.docx as the template for your work.
Ensure that your format displays correctly and is readable.  Do NOT
copy from the text or from the Template IFAS text!  Use your own critical
analysis and critical thinking.  The template is provided to assist you
with the layout–i.e., make it easy for you to construct the chart.
The template also gives you a good idea of the appropriate explanations
required in the Comments blocks about the why an SF, potential quantified
impact, how weighted, and how rated.
Comments are expected to be 4-5 sentences in length and depth and offer a
clear explanation of the strategic factor (SF) in 4 aspects:
    Why it is a
strategic factor (SF), core competency (CC) or distinctive competency
    (DC); (1-2 sentences only)
    A quantified
estimate of the potential impact (QPI) of the SF; (1 sentence only)
    How you assign
the weight; (1 sentence only) and
    How you assign
    the rating. (1 sentence only)
    ·
Keep the 4-5 sentences of your Comments in order
for clarity and ease of understanding.  The recommended order is:
Why SF comments; QPI comments; Weight comments; and finally Rating comments.
For the QPI comments, estimate the potential impact on the firm in the
future in a quantitative manner using some metric:  sales, revenues,
costs, market share, profits, logistics pipeline, CSI, etc.  Express the
quantitative potential impact (QPI) in Dollars $$.  If you express the
potential impact in $$, that makes each strategic factor comparable against
the other strategic factors. And expressing the impact in sales makes them even
more easily comparable.   Make sure you are making significant
estimates based on the size of your company based on annual revenue
values in your 5-Y financials. You develop this estimate.
The monetary value of the QPI is useful to compare the
strategic factors and rank them in relevance.  Ranking them will
help you to assign the Weights (2nd column in the table) to
each strategic factor. Use a positive analysis (quantitative) rather than a
normative analysis (feelings, desires).  Focus on what is the potential
gain for your SF opportunities or the potential loss from a SF threat in
the future.  History lessons are not needed nor applicable.
You should estimate and predict the impact in the future. Be
    creative.
Don’t develop future actions or alternatives here in the IFAS about
how a firm may or should take action on a particular SF.  The
brainstorming development of those alternative actions comes with the TOWS
Analysis that we will start presenting in Module 4.
HINT:  To focus your thinking on addressing “why” you selected
each SF and “why it is important,” start your “why select/important” sentence
with words like this:  “I selected this SF because…..” or “This SF is
important because…”  By using this lead-in phrase you should be able to
concisely state why that particular SF is important.
HINT:  To focus your thinking on addressing the quantitative
potential impact (QPI) in the future of each SF, be sure your QPI sentence
contains words like this:  “potential impact of $____” or “potential
increases to ____ are $____ per year” or “reduction in sales by $____ per
year.”  Be sure to state the potential impact in dollars so you can
compare the potential impacts of your various SF.
How to write the Weight and Rank comments: To assign
weights, explain the importance of the SF to the firm’s future
survival.  Is the SF of vital importance or low importance on a scale of 1
to 0?  What is the impact of the SF on the future survival of the firm?
What SF has the biggest impact?  Which one(s) are the Big
Dogs?  Make a logical explanation of why the weight you have assigned is
what it is.  Comparison and ranking between SF is a useful technique to
assign the weight.  See your potential $$$ impacts from your “Why”
analysis above. The bigger the $$$ impact is, the bigger the weight should
be.  Remember the weight column adds to 1.0.
HINT:  To focus your thinking on addressing the importance of
the SF to the firm’s future survival, be sure to include the key word
    “survival” in your weight sentence.
To assign ratings provide an explanation of how well, or how
badly, the firm is handling each specific external SF RIGHT NOW –
not in the future or not in the distant past – but right now.  Use
the scale of 1 – 5, poor to outstanding; comparing the firm’s performance
against the industry standard rating of 3.  Give a logical explanation of
why the rating you have assigned is what it is.  Do they handle it well or
are they lost?  Are they performing in average way as other competitors
are? Remember the industry average performance is rated at 3.
HINT:  To focus your thinking on addressing how well your firm
is handling each SF, understand what the 1-5 scale means and then use your
rating number from the rating column with matching words (low, average, above
average, high, etc) in your rating sentence.
Remember to keep your decision-making at the strategic level –the Big
Picture level. You are acting at the CEO/SVP level. But you are also acting at
the lower levels to brainstorm, generate alternatives, perform critical
analysis, and make recommendations to the CEO/SVP levels. The decision-maker
CEO/SVP decides on the most important strategic factors.

The TemplateSA-EXH4-FinRatio.docx is only a reference because you
will perform the calculations of your financial ratios in Excel. In fact, the
5-Y financials of the firm you are working about has a sheet that connects the
financial ratio formulas with respective data in Balance Sheets and Income
Statements for the five years of analysis in the same workbook.
To facilitate the Excel calculations, your 5-Y Financials has already the
formula and connections for the 1st year of your case. Review those
formulas to understand what is going on. Then, copy/paste that column for the
    other remaining years.

“Parallel Task Execution with Process Forking in C” Process Creation and Task Execution in C

    General Grading Guidelines:
The following deductions will apply to all programming assignments.
    1. Any program that does not compile will result in a zero for the assignment. No exceptions will be made for ‘accidental’ uploads, so check your code before submitting.
    2. Poor Formatting and programming style will result in a 15% deduction. Please see the style guidelines to avoid this deduction.
    3. The code will go through 2 steps of plagiarism detection. Zero tolerance for academic misconduct! If you commit any form of academic misconduct in this course, you WILL be reported to the FIU Student Conduct and Academic Affairs office.
    Programming Style Guidelines:
The major purpose of programming style guidelines is to make programs easy to read and understand. Good programming style helps make it possible for a person knowledgeable in the application area to quickly read a program and understand how it works.
    1. Your program should begin with a comment that briefly summarizes what it does. For this course, this comment should also include your Name and pantherID.
    2. Use additional comments when needed in order for a reader to understand what is happening (see also, point 3).
    3. Variable names and function names should be sufficiently descriptive so that a knowledgeable reader can easily understand what the variable means and what the function does. If this is not possible, comments should be added to make the meaning clear.
    4. Use consistent indentation to emphasize block structure.
    5. Use names of moderate length for variables. Most names should be between 2 and 12 letters long.
    6. Use either underscores or capitalization (camelNaming) for compound names for variables. e.g: tot_vol, total_volumn, or totalVolumn. Assignment description :
    Task:
Write a C program that simulates a parallel task execution scenario using process forking. The program should create a specified number of child processes, each performing a unique task. The parent process should wait for all child processes to complete before displaying the final result.
    Requirements:
Your program should take an integer input n from the user, where n represents the number of child processes to be created. n should be less than 5.
Each child process should perform a different task, such as computing the factorial of a number, finding prime numbers in a range, or any computationally intensive operation.
The parent process should display a message before creating (forking) the child processes.
Each child process should print its own identifier (PID) and the task it is performing.
After completing their tasks, each child process should print a completion message.
The parent process should wait for all child processes to finish before displaying a final message.
    Additional Considerations:
Use the fork() system call to create child processes.
You may use other relevant system calls or functions as needed (e.g., wait() , exit() ).
Ensure proper error handling for system calls.
Design the code to guarantee the creation of exactly n children, ensuring that each child executes its intended task. Properly manage the process creation to avoid any unintended duplication or omission of child processes.
Submission Guidelines: Submit the C source code along with a brief report explaining the design choices and the lessons learned during the implementation. Discuss any challenges encountered and how they were addressed.
    Sample output:
    $ ./parallel_execution
Enter the number of child processes to create: 3
Parent process (PID: 1234) is creating 3 child processes.
Child 1 (PID: 1235) is computing the factorial of 5.
Child 2 (PID: 1236) is finding prime numbers up to 20.
Child 3 (PID: 1237) is performing a custom task.
Child 1 (PID: 1235) completed its task. Result: 120
    Child 2 (PID: 1236) completed its task. Result: 2 3 5 7 11 13 17 19
Child 3 (PID: 1237) completed its task. Result: Custom task completed.
All child processes have completed. Parent (PID: 1234) is displaying the final message.
    Deliverables:
your C source code (e.g. myfirstlastname.c ) and PDf report.
Remember to include the following as a comment at the beginning of your program:
    Your name
    Your panther ID
    GETTING STARTED:
you can use this to get started:
Ocelot Access:Your code will be tested on a Linux machine with gcc compiler. If you are not familiar with Linux here is some useful information:
pwd – tells you the directory you are in.
    cd – changes directories.
mkdir – creates a new directory.
emacs and nano (and vi) – are available editors with nano easiest to use.
    The compiler is gcc.

“Mastering the Art of Summarizing: A Guide to Writing Effective Executive Summaries”

    ibrary Assigment Content
    EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
Being able to distill information quickly and accurately is an important study skill. Academic, peer-reviewed articles provide you with an abstract, but an abstract just gives you a general idea whether the article is worth skimming or reading. An executive summary of a business report, however, is a document that—while concise—should pro-vide enough information to allow executives to act on it without necessarily having to read every word of the report. If you are asked to summarize a news article, for example, you need to provide the gist of it to the reader who then ought to be able to clearly understand the original without having to read it. As a rule of thumb, executive summaries tend to be nutshell versions, boiled down to approximately 10 per-cent, of the original. A 100-page report might result in an executive summary of up to ten pages. If the report has five sections, the executive summary needs to address each of these sections, too. Think of the executive summary as a miniature version of the original document, following the structure but leaving out details, examples, and other supporting information. Another benefit of being able to summarize skillfully is that you verify your understanding of the concepts in your reading. If you can’t summarize the original accurately from memory, in your own words, you probably need to reread it to understand it better.
    Instructions
*Select a substantial news analysis or feature article in a reputable business publication, i.e., The Wall Street Journal, The Economist, Bloomberg Businessweek, Money, Forbes, The Financial Times, or the business sections of big U.S. dailies (e.g., The New York Times, The Washing-ton Post, or U.S. News & World Report).
*Choose an article of length and substance, at least 2,000 words long. Tip: If you access the article in a research database, a word count will be provided for you.
*Write an executive summary, retaining the basic structure of the original, choosing precise, specific words for conciseness, while omitting details and examples that only serve as supporting evidence or explanation. Do not distort the meaning or inject your own opinion. Your summary can be up to 200 words long, i.e., two short paragraphs.
*Provide the source and other citation information for your assignment (Reference Page)
*Submit your executive summary as a memo. (Review and duplicate the sample from your textbook Chapter 13, Model Document 13.2 page 474). For better viewing review “pdf” attached.

“Crafting a Successful Dissertation: A Practical Guide” “The Importance of Proper Formatting and Referencing in Academic Writing” “Word Count Requirements for Equitable Assessment: Guidelines for Developing Writing Skills”

    Guide, London: Sage.
Silbergh, D (2001). Doing Dissertations in Politics – A Student
    Guide. London, Routledge.
    1.
    Setting up your dissertation
    After thinking about a topic,
then put it to the test.
Imagine that a stranger comes up
and asks “what are you doing for your dissertation?” How would you
    frame your answer?
    (a)      I’m doing….
    (b)      I’m looking at….
    (c)      I’m trying to find out whether/to what
    extent/how far
    (d)      I’m testing the validity of….
If your answer is in (a) or (b)
    – think again.  If (c) or (d) then it
suggests you are on the right track.
To guide you in the right direction, it will help if your dissertation
title is a question which you intend to answer.  Titles which are a statement of facts or a general topic
usually will not help you to critically analyse or argue.
Dissertations which are largely descriptive, or have lots of data in
the main body of the work and little in the way of analysis, or are not well
written, will not gain a good mark and could run the risk of not passing.
    The organisation of your
dissertation is a matter for consideration with your supervisor.  For example, let us assume that there are to
be three chapters in the work Introduction/Aims
    – Main body of the dissertation in three chapters – Conclusion
    (a)   Introduction and Aims:
A good introduction should achieve all of the following:
    ·
define the subject and indicate broadly its extent
    ·
state clearly the aims of the dissertation
    ·
provide background information which the reader will need (this might
include defining technical terms or words which are to be used in a special
    sense)
    ·
indicate the structure of the dissertation (i.e. the purpose and
    content of each chapter);
    ·
summarise the main argument(s) you are going to be making
    (b)  Main Chapters:  Concentrate on writing one chapter at a
    time.
    In each chapter you should:
    ·       start each chapter on a new
page. Give the chapter a title as well as a number
    ·       introduce the aims/purpose of
    the chapter, summarising its argument
    ·       draw together conclusions from
    the analysis so far
    ·       Towards the end of each chapter
try to give a pointer towards the next one, thus giving continuity to the
    dissertation as a whole.
    The dissertation should also
    include the following:
    ·       a literature review. This can be
a separate chapter, or run throughout the main chapters (NB: You may not need having a separate literature review chapter in
the dissertation, which may break up the development of an argument. You should
talk to your supervisor(s) about this.)
    ·       describe methodology used and
    why
    ·       present the data/evidence
    (indicating sources);
    ·       analyse and evaluate these
    data/evidence;
Be wary about the excessive use
of footnotes. These can be helpful if you need to include detail useful for the
reader but not essential to the flow of the argument, but otherwise should be
    avoided.
    If statistical material is
included ensure that it is presented in the most concise way possible. Simple
numbers are often better dealt with in the text rather than a separate table.
Do not confuse the reader with pages of statistics – supplementary data can be
included in appendices at the end of the dissertation, but the use of these
    should be sparing and relevant.
    (c)     Conclusion:  This
should be kept reasonably brief and cogent as possible.  It should do all or some of the following:
    ·       summarise the discussion in the
    main sections;
    ·       summarise the findings and
    inferences;
    ·       make
    recommendations/conclusions/predictions based on above;
    ·       emphasise the significance of
    the subject matter;
    ·       consider the wider implications
    of the study
    APPENDICES,
where they are used, should be at the end of the dissertation and contain such
things as detailed information e.g. data, descriptions, interviews, survey
details, timetables of events or a detailed argument or exposition about
    something in the text.
    They should be
supporting some argument or theme in the text and not just nice to know.  In most cases the reader does NOT have to
read them to follow and understand the main text.  This also applies to footnotes which are
usually shorter and appear either at the foot of the page or the end of the
chapter. They can be a definition, quotation or any other bit of information
    needed.
    (d)     Acknowledgements –
Here you should acknowledge those who helped you complete your dissertation,
plus any data sources which were specifically made available to you etc.
    (e)     An abstract of the
work.  This should provide a synopsis of
the thesis stating the nature and scope of the work undertaken
    (i) The purpose of the Abstract is to
provide a summary by the author of what the dissertation is about, what sort of
research backs it up and what findings it makes.  The idea is that it can then be used in publications
listing research work completed, which will enable other workers in the same
Subject to identify what has already been done and to refer to the abstract to
see whether or not they should read the whole dissertation.
(ii)       Therefore, the abstract must provide a
summary of the dissertation, stating (though not necessarily in this order and
    without cross-headings):
§  the nature and scope of the work
    undertaken
§  the contribution it makes to
    knowledge of the subject matter
§  a brief statement of the
    research method used
§  an outline of the main argument
    and findings
§  a summary of any conclusions
    reached
(iii)   So that it can be readily reproduced the
    Abstract must:
§  be on a separate side of paper
§  be typed on single spacing
    §  not exceed 300 words
§  have the title and author’s name
    as its heading
(iv)      A good abstract is difficult to
    produce.  Try to avoid a
chapter-by-chapter summary; and try to give an overall impression of the work,
bearing in mind the purpose of an abstract.
The abstract has to be taken into account when the dissertation is
    marked, so work on it.
    (g)     A contents page with
page references to chapters, sections appendices, etc.
    (h)     List of figures, tables
and plates (if used) and case and statute list (where used) with figures
and table numbers and page references separate lists for each.
    (i)      Main body of
dissertation. This should be sub-divided into logical sections, for
example – introduction, chapters (numbered and titled) and conclusion. Each
chapter should begin on a new page.
    (j)      Appendices (where
appropriate). Detailed lengthy tables and other statistics obtained during
the investigation should be given fully at the end, labelled “Appendix
    1” etc.
    (k)     Bibliography
    (l)      Word count
    (j)      References
    Thorough
referencing of your dissertation is extremely important. It provides evidence
of your research and provides justification for your statements. Both the
Harvard and British Standard system of referencing are acceptable in the
Politics and International Relations Subjects. The important thing is to pick
one and apply it correctly and consistently. It is important to ensure page
numbers are included in your references.
Be 1.5 spaced and with a
font no smaller than 12pt Times New Roman
    Presenting coursework for assessment
Your dissertation must be presented in the following format:
    ❑
    It must be
word-processed in 12 point Arial font and double-spaced
    ❑
    All pages must be
    numbered
    ❑
    Margins must be
as follows: Top: 1 inch, Bottom: 1 inch (2.5 cm), Left: 1.25 inches, Right:
    1.25 inches (3.2 cm)
    Assignment length
    The
dissertation should be 9,000 words long (+/-10% word count) exclusive of title page, contents page, acknowledgments, abstract,
    appendices, footnotes and bibliography.
The length of an assignment is limited by a set number of words to
contribute towards the development of writing skills and to ensure all work is
assessed equitably. We therefore require you to complete your assignments
within the number of words specified in the assignment brief.  This may be expressed as either a word range
(e.g. 2000-2500 words) or as an indicative limit (e.g. 2000 words).
The word count refers to the main body of the assignment and does not
include front cover, title page, contents page, executive summary, reference
list, bibliography or appendices. The word count does include headings, tables
and in-text citations, but not equations or diagrams. Appendices themselves
will not be marked. However, inappropriate use of appendices will be taken into
consideration when awarding the final mark.
The final word count should be clearly indicated at the end of your
    assignment.
Where an indicative limit is expressed in the assignment brief (e.g.
2000 words), a 10% leeway, over or under the specified word limit, is in place.
For example, if an assessment asks for 2000 words then any submission between
1800-2200 words will be deemed acceptable.
Where a word range is expressed, there is no leeway above the maximum
    wordage allowed.
Words that exceed the maximum allowed in an assignment brief that
contains either a word range or an indicative limit will not be marked. If in
doubt, you should discuss this with the Module Leader before submission.
