According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (2022), “Social determinants of health (SDOH) are the nonmedical factors that influence health outcomes. They are the conditions in which people are born, grow, work, live, and age, and the wider set of forces and systems shaping the conditions of daily life… SDOH are one of three priority areas for Healthy People 2030, along with health equity and health literacy. Healthy People 2030 sets data-driven national objectives in five key areas of SDOH: healthcare access and quality, education access and quality, social and community context, economic stability, and neighborhood and built environment. Some examples of SDOH included in Healthy People 2030 are safe housing, transportation, and neighborhoods; polluted air and water; and access to nutritious foods and physical health opportunities”.

To Prepare:
Reflect on the concept of social determinants of health as presented in the resources.
Contemplate whether digital inclusion or broad band access should be added to the 5 key areas of social determinants of health.
Using the optional outside resources or other peer reviewed journal articles, consider how electronic health records, mobile health, patient portals, or telemedicine can impact and be impacted by the social determinants of health.

Post a description of your views on whether or not digital inclusion or broad band access should be added as a key area to the social determinants of health. Be specific and provide examples that support your position. Explain how electronic health records, mobile health, patient portals, or telemedicine can impact and be impacted by the social determinants of health. Support your explanation with the required or optional resources

Understand the anatomy and physiology of the respiratory system (Gas exchange, inspiration/expiration, alveoli, bronchi, pleural space etc)
2. Know the definition, signs and symptoms of respiratory diseases (Rhinitis, Rhinosinusitis, URTI, epiglottitis, bronchiolitis, Pharyngitis and strep pharyngitis)
3. Know definition, signs and symptoms of Mononucleosis, Herpangina, Hand foot and mouth disease.
4. Know mechanism of edema and the fluid volume systems (Fluid space such as -intracellular, interstitial, extracellular, vascular etc…all the spaces)
5. Understand fluid volume terms such as (blood osmolarity, hypotonic, hypertonic, normotonic, crystalloids)
6. Understand the electrolytes such as potassium, potassium, phosphorous, chloride etc
7. Know the following diseases that present with rash (HSV, Hand foot and mouth, syphilis, varicella)
8. Know the following conditions, signs and symptoms, define and management (cystic fibrosis, bronchiolitis, rhinovirus, adenovirus, RSV, surfactant deficiency)
9. Know Tuberculosis, define, sign and symptoms, testing methods such as Tuberculin test and interferon gamma assay. Know how to read and analyze the results, why some places ask for TB test while some ask for interferon.
10. Know croup, causes, signs and symptoms and treatment.
11. Know laryngeal cancer, signs and symptoms, risk factors
12. Know COPD, define, group of diseases included, signs and symptoms and management
13. Know Asthma, define, signs and symptoms, management
14. Know obstructive sleep apnea in adults and children
15. Know the following respiratory diseases define, signs and symptoms, and management (pneumonia, pneumothorax-all types, pleural effusion, empyema, ARDS)
16. Know the different types of sleep disorders, differentiate them, example narcolepsy.
17. Know Laryngeal cancer, signs and symptoms, risk factors

22. Know hyperkalemia, the lab value and treatment, hyponatremia definition, causes and treatment, hypophosphatemia definition, signs and symptoms, causes and treatment, hypercapnia definition, signs and symptoms, and treatment.
