PART ONE

1. Watch this short video, and then in 1-1.5 pages, follow directions below.
a. Tell about a time someone failed to empathize with you. What was your situation? What did this person say or do (perhaps in the name of being helpful) that resulted in more disconnection than connection?
b. Write about a time when someone empathized with you. How did you feel when that happened?
c. Finally, write about a time when you failed to empathize well with someone you cared about. How might you move forward when you face a similar situation again?
PART 2
Before you watch this 8-minute TEDx Talk, read these empty claims: Doug was a principled man.
Doug and the speaker (Kim Toms) were a lot alike.
She missed him a lot when he died.
Some people who tried to comfort Kim helped and others did not.

1. Copy these claims into your paper, and for each one, jot down two sensory images from the video. Full sentences not required–just a few words for each image.
EX: “Doug and Kim were a lot alike: ‘matching red suitcases; cart of burritos and Oreos’. 2. Write one or two sentences on the impact of these empty claims versus the same claims supported with sensory data. In other words, how do sensory details and active verbs enhance writing and/or understanding?
PART 3
1. Empathy is all about connection. Though benefits of greater connection in your personal life might seem obvious, what are possible benefits of greater connection in the workplace or school? Please write a short paragraph.

P ick the
special population (homeless with mental health issues) from Module 5 that was
explored and develop a case vignette. This may be a real client you have worked
with in the past or you can create a client.
There
should be a descriptive case history that will include the age, gender, race,
diagnosis, strengths of the client, obstacles to access of treatment, weakness
or barriers to sobriety, family dynamics, social history, work history, etc.
Ideally, this will be about 1 page.
Then utilize
the different domains (social determinant of health) of the practice of case
management and give the treatment plan you will use with this client refencing
the resource guide you started in your first assignment. 
This should be
in a formal APA style paper with at least 3 references,

pages, not including the reference sheet.

Week 6: Assignments – Essay*

Choose ONE of the two possible essay topics below. Be sure to answer the essay questions thoroughly.
Cite your e-text and other credible material within your answer as well as place your references at the bottom.
Your answer must be no less than 400 words in total (not including references).
Your essay should contain both an introduction and a conclusion.
You must utilize at least three credible, scholarly sources of information to support this essay, one of which will be the course text: ( Lazzara, J., & Beyer, A. (2020). Psychology Through the Lifespan. Creative Commons OER).
Prompt:
Topic 1:
Write an essay that summarizes the second stage of Piaget’s Theory of Cognitive Development (the preoperational stage).
Start with an introduction that lists the content of the essay and what you will be covering.
Make sure to include the following terms in your essay: animism, egocentrism, centration, and conservation.
Explain how this stage in Piaget’s theoretical model seeks to describe cognitive development in early childhood within the context of children thinking symbolically, yet not able to conceptualize cognitive operations.
Be sure to provide examples of each point.
Topic 2:
Write an essay that summarizes the emergence of gender roles during early childhood development.
Start with an introduction that lists the content of the essay and what you will be covering.
Make sure to distinguish between gender roles and gender identification.
In your discussion, include models of parenting and how they can contribute to reinforcing or detracting from gender-role development.
Summarize this essay by discerning between gender roles in collectivist societies vs. individualistic societies.
Be sure to provide examples of each point.
Your essay should:
Answer the essay questions thoroughly in no fewer than 400 words.
Use factual information from the 3 scholarly sources.
Be written in standard essay format:
Introduction; includes an overview of your main points.
Body; complete paragraphs, each discussing one main point with support and details.
Conclusion; recaps main points, without presenting new information.
