“Exploring the World of Ballet: A Journey Through History, Movement, Aesthetics, and Culture” Introduction: – Briefly introduce the topic of ballet and its significance in the world of dance and performing arts. – Explain the purpose of the “Exploring Ethnographic Movement Forms: A Presentation on the History, Aesthetics, and Cultural Significance of [Insert Movement Form]”

This is based on a research paper on ballet that has been attached below.
Present your findings in a 8-10 minute presentation.
Your presentation needs to convey the findings of your ethnographic research on your movement practice/dance culture. You’re essentially putting it all together to share! You should create a visual (Powerpoint, Google Slides, etc.) AND record yourself presenting it.
Your presentation should cover the History, Movement, Aesthetics, Culture, and (optionally) Controversy + Field Research.
Below you will find some sample questions for each aspect you need to cover. Pick some from each category to talk about for this presentation. Use your research that you have already conducted (field work, prospectus, comparative analysis). In theory, you shouldn’t have to do much extensive research, because you’ve already done the work in the CREATIVE DOCUMENT.
    History:
    Who created this dance?
    What are its primary characteristics?
    When was the dance created/popularized?
Where was it created and where has it traveled?
How was this dance created and passed on?
How does knowing the history of this dance form affect your experience learning it?
    Movement Characteristics:
Write a movement description of a basic step/short phrase (required).
How does this dance/movement form use space?
What are the qualities (energy) of the body/bodies?
What are basic movements or steps?
What kinds of movements/motions do you need to be good at in this form?
    Aesthetics:
What is considered beautiful and technically correct within this dance?
    Culture:
Why do people do this dance? For example, is it a form of cultural memory, socializing, religious ritual, entertainment, story-telling?
How has the dance changed over time and why?
Is there a particular difference in the original context of the dance vs. how you learned it? (For example– Hip Hop isn’t originally a studio form, but you learned it in a studio?)
    Controversy: (Optional)
Has this dance been met with any resistance from the outside or in-fighting amongst participants?
What are the implications for a person of your identity to perform this dance?
    Self-Reflection:(Optional)
What was it like for you all to take classes in this form? What was your experience like?
NOTE: At the end of your presentation, you should include 1 minute(2 min max)  demonstration/performance/experience of the form as it is embodied. You can use music. You can choreograph it it like a performance. It can be material you directly learned in your fieldwork. You can do it as a tutorial where you are teaching a movement. You can do this as creatively as you want.
With your 8-10 minute presentation and your 1 minute demonstration, your projects SHOULD NOT exceed 12 minutes. Time yourselves. If you go over 12 minutes, you will be marked down.
PLEASE JUST INCLUDE A BLANK SLIDE THAT FITS THE THEME FOR THIS PART OF THE TASK. I WILL UPLOAD MY OWN VIDEO.
    Considerations and Requirements:.
The presentation must include some form of digital visual presentation (i.e. video and/or photos and text that has been organized within a presentation software such as Powerpoint, Google Slides, Keynote, Prezi, Windows Movie Maker, iMovie, etc.).
You must present your actual findings. This should be a recording of you. You may record yourself on Zoom. There is also a link here that explains how you can do this using OBS: Tutorial for Recording a Slides or PPT presentation.mp4. If you have any other way of doing this, you are more than welcome to. You will be submitting a link under this assignment as well as the Final presentation Discussion board.
Before you record. Practice this presentation. Practice speaking clearly, enunciating your words, and projecting. You need to talk loud enough so that people can hear you but not so loud that you are shouting.  Pace yourself – don’t talk too quickly or too slowly.  Use your tone and inflection to maintain interest and clarity of intent – in other words, don’t talk in a monotone.
Time your presentation. Do not go over 12 minutes.
Because this is the last assignment, there is no make up or late work for this. If you do not submit your presentation on the due date, you will receive a 0.
Discussion Board: (I will complete myself)
You will be submitting your video link of your presentation TWICE. Once under this assignment, and the other on a final discussion board. The discussion board will be a part of your Week 14 Module. I will split you into groups and you will be asked to view all of your groups presentations and then respond to them.
    Grading– 15 points total :
Presentation– 4 pts (Clear, concise, rehearsed presentation of ethnographic movement form that covers history, movement, aesthetics, culture, controversy (optional), and self reflection (optional).
Visual Presentation– 3 pts (Well organized in logical structure, sequence, visually appealing, correct grammar and spelling, easy to read and see)
Movement Demo/Performance/Experience–  3 pts (A demonstration, performance, or movement experience  of your movement form.)
Time Limit– 1pts (You meet the minimum 8 minutes for presentation and 1 minute for movement demonstration/experience. These don’t have to be stand-alone. The time is cumulative.)
Discussion Board– 4 points (Viewing and responding to classmates presentations. I will put you into groups so that you only will be watching 4 or 5 presentations).
    GRADING CONSIDERATIONS:
You get a full 15 points if you complete all aspects of the project prompt fully. This means you must cover history, movement, aesthetic, culture, movement demonstration, your project is at least 8 minutes of presentation and at least 1 minute of movement demonstration, and you comment on you assigned classmates presentations meeting all guidelines. The project time minimum is cumulative- meaning you can break it up however you want. If you do not fully cover aspects of the project, you will receive appropriate point deductions.
If you do not post your project to BOTH the assignment AND Discussion Board,  by the due date you will lose 5 points.
You will have 1 point (per minute) deducted if you go over the 12 minute maximum time limit.
Make sure the link that you provide when you are submitting your assignment works. If I cannot open it, you will receive a 5point deduction.

The Impact of Gentrification on Low-Income and Minority Communities in Urban Areas of the United States

Your paper must investigate an issue or question you have that pertains to the theme of the class (race, class, gender) in some way. Please check with me first before you settle on a topic and begin work.
Your paper must be at least 9 paragraphs in PBWorks.
Your paper must contain at least two quotes (in-text or drop) from articles we read in class.
Your paper must contain at least three quotes (in-text or drop) from articles you found through your own research.
Your paper must be grammatically correct.
Your paper must have an introduction, conclusion, and supporting paragraphs.
Your paper must have a “Works Cited” page (we will go over this in class).
This is the rubric for the essay. My research question is How has
gentrification affected low-income and minority communities in urban areas of
    the United States?
Here are two quotes from articles that we’ve read in class
    In the
article “The Problem: Discrimination” it says, “There is a classic cycle of
structural discrimination that reproduces itself… Discrimination in housing
confines minorities to school districts providing inferior education, closing
the cycle in a classic form” (276).
    In the
article “How it Happens: Legal Constructions of Power and Privilege” it says, “Lawmakers have relied upon complex rhetorical and ideological maneuvers to
rationalize genocide, slavery, mass incarceration, and discrimination, while
also claiming “equality,” “justice,” and “freedom” as fundamental tenets”
    (503).
You can use these quotes in the essay but also make sure to use three other quotes from outside sources. After you use the sources make sure to cite them in MLA format. Here is an example of my writing style. Please try your best to replicate it.
“I pledge allegiance to the Flag of the United States of
America, and to the Republic for which it stands, one Nation under God,
indivisible, with liberty and justice for all (except people of color, women,
and lower class individuals).” In the United States of America, it has been
historically proven that being a person of color puts you at a heavy
disadvantage, especially in court settings. We can see this happen time and time
again, especially when analyzing the cases of Dred Scott v. Sanford, Plessy v.
Ferguson, and Brown v. Board of Education. Although all of these were
different cases that occurred in different time periods, they all
addressed the same issue of African Americans being not seen as equals who are
    protected under the Constitution.
Dred Scott v. Sanford was a heavily problematic case that
took place in the year of 1857. It questioned whether blacks, specifically
descendants of slaves, could be considered American citizens whose rights
would be protected under the constitution. At the time, many people believed
that colored people were inferior beings who were unfit to associate with whites. In the document it says, “But it is too clear for dispute, that the
enslaved African race was not intended to be included, and formed no part of
the people who framed and adopted this declaration;” (535). The people saw the
Declaration of independence as this perfect document which was written by the
great founding fathers. It had no flaws and since African Americans had no part
in the creation of it, the people believed that the document didn’t apply to
them. In the end, the Supreme Court ruled the case in favor of Sandford. They
claimed that since Scott wasn’t a citizen under the Constitution and therefore,
he did not have the right to sue in federal court.

“Addressing America’s Growing Wealth Inequality: A Proposal for Federal Action”

    Discussion Instructions
The United States is the world’s wealthiest and most powerful country, but it still has its share of problems—some recent in origin, and others long-festering. For this final discussion, you will have the opportunity to research and propose a solution to a contemporary American problem of your choice in a mock op-ed, and debate with your peers for extra credit.
Note that this discussion has more moving parts than usual, so please pay attention to the additional rules.
    A. Please reply to the following prompt in an initial post of at least 300 words total, and include at least one reference to a piece of original research—i.e. not using the lectures or assigned readings (18 pts):
Write a (mock) newspaper op-ed proposing a federal government policy towards a contemporary American issue of your choice. Support your position with original research.
Tip: This prompt is not asking for just your opinion on some national issue (i.e., “X is bad”), but what should be done about it (“X is bad, so the US should do Y”). Note that your problems and solutions need to be appropriate to the scope of the federal government’s responsibilities. For example, you shouldn’t write an op-ed demanding that the feds fill a pothole in your local intersection—talk instead about infrastructure in broader terms.
Tip: Not all opinions are created equal. To be persuasive, your opinions need to be backed up by facts. Please support your arguments with research. However, since this prompt concerns current rather than historical events, available information may be incomplete and/or subject to different interpretations. Consider the political leanings of your sources when conducting your research.
A selection of domestic news sources and magazines—and their political biases—are listed below.
