  • Title: The Use and Misuse of Logic in Trifles: How the Women Solved the Murder

    Essay #2: Drama and Logic
As we’ve discussed, Trifles takes the form of a classic murder mystery. The characters, to varying degrees, try to solve the muder of Mr. Wright although they focus on different things and use different techniques. By the end of the play, it’s clear that the women–with their focus on trifles-solve the murder while the men are still left clueless.
In this essay, you’re going to analyze the characters’ use of logic (or misuse of logic when you identify logical fallacies) to explain (pick one): why the women were able to solve the murder OR why the men were unable to solve the murder.
    Requirements:
At least 1750 wordsArgumentative thesis statement in last position of first paragraph
Analysis of logic, which may include premises, syllogisms, and logical fallacies
Quotations with parenthetical citations using MLA style Header with name, date, class and final word count
Note: Failure to meet the minimum word count will count as a failure to complete the assignment.

    SELF-REFLECTION INSTRUCTIONS
Write at least 250 words in complete sentences and paragraphs (not a list).
**Note: Your essay will be returned ungraded if your self-reflection is not written in paragraph form or if you do not include it at all. Your essay will be considered late until you resubmit your essay and reformatted self-reflection.

  • Analyzing “The Traditional College Student” by Dr. Regina Deil-Amen: Validity and Importance of the Reading’s Content

Read “The Traditional College Student” by Dr. Regina Deil-Amen. & Then, write a 1-2 page double-spaced analysis of it. Sample Analysis by Dr. Hofmann &
This is an analysis, not a persuasive essay, so you do not need a thesis. However, every analysis should mention the title and author of the piece at the beginning so readers know your subject.
    Make sure to include:
the title and author’s name of the reading you are analyzing in the first sentence
a brief summary (1-2 paragraphs) of the main points
an important quote or two from the piece that are remarkable- some professors call these “golden lines.” You can list these at the top of embed them within your discussion, as you prefer. These quotes might be useful to you later in an essay.
any logical fallacies you observe (I don’t expect to see this before the week when we learn about logical fallacies)
your analysis (1-2) paragraphs) of the importance and/or validity of the reading’s content.
The analysis is the most important item in the assignment. In the analysis portion you can:
” evaluate the importance, or lack thereof, of the author’s main ideas (you can also compare the importance of some of the contents of the reading versus others)
evaluate the amount of evidence the author provides to support his/her points (it is sufficient? relevant? valid? etc.)
    * ask questions that the piece raises for you
try to make connections between this reading and other readings in this class and/or elsewhere, or in the public sphere, the news, etc.
You may conclude with a brief reflection, but that is entirely optional.

  • Title: The Impact of 1907 on Art Movements of the 20th Century

In order to gain a perspective of the rapid changes in early-twentieth-century society and their direct relation to the plethora of art movements, I would like you to pick ONE year from 1900–1920. Research noteworthy
    inventions,
    world events,
    and discoveries
from that year and tell HOW you think they influenced the art movements of the 20th century (Be specific- give examples). You will also have to research the art movements of that time. Don’t tell me each invention for example like, the vacuum cleaner made cleaning faster so artists had more time to work! Think overall what was happening! Look at everything from that year and what did it do to the hearts and minds of people and artists. How did all these things affect artists and their creations. Think about the theories of those art movements and were they developed due to the changes in that year.
Share your findings in an approximately three-five minute video report to the class. You can record yourself, your screen or both. To create video:Write a script to follow
    Create a slide presentation.
and include pictures of what you are presenting. You can open the pictures a head of time on your desktop or phone for recording. You can pause the recording to take a break, close a picture, open another one etc. It will be fun to hear your voices, and if you choose, see your faces. Be sure to check out other students videos to learn about their year and get to know them a little better. Pay attention to the Due Date! Respond to 2 others within 24 hours of the due date, more if you like, and let them know you watched.
Use Canvas Studio to make your video. You can watch the how to video and/or read the instructions just below it.

  • “Examining the Effectiveness of Vision Statements and the Impact of Unprotected Workers on Civil Rights Enforcement”

    LW 1
Given the state of current weather, I spent a good part of my day reading the chapters. So I am going to get us started by answering the first two questions.
Which of the vision statements are, in your judgment, effective, and which are not?In my opinion, the following vision statements are most effective:Airbnb: “Belong anywhere.” – Short, memorable (thus my favorite), and evokes a strong emotional connection to the core value of their service.
Google: “To provide access to the world’s information in one click.” – Clear, ambitious, and directly aligns with their mission and impact on the world.
And the least effective are as follows:Coca-Cola: “Inspiring each other to be the best we can be by providing a great place to work.” – Internal-focused and lacks the impact on the broader world or customer experience.
Disney: “To be one of the world’s leading producers and providers of entertainment and information.” – Generic, lacks differentiation, and doesn’t capture their unique storytelling and emotional connection.
Based on their vision statements, for which of these companies would you work for? Based on the vision statements alone, Google’s ambition and commitment to democratizing information resonate with me. Their focus on technology and innovation aligns with my interest in using information technology for positive societal impact.

Civil rights law provides for employee protections against discrimination in many situations. The legal criteria must be strictly adhered to in order to qualify for the protections afforded under the law. What happens to civil rights enforcement if a part of the workforce is unprotected by civil rights laws? Will the public policy exception to the employment-at-will doctrine expand to fill gaps in public policy to the point where exclusions will be rendered meaningless?
