Week 13 Death & Dying; Grief & Loss
Based on what we learned, did and discussed in class this week:
What are the most 2-3 important things you learned this week and How might you use this information in the content of your personal and family life? Be as specific as you can in your reflection, and remember to use gerontological facts, concepts and vocabulary from class! Your reflection should be 2-3 double spaced, typed pages (approximately 400-500 words). I attached the power point from this week classes.

For this assignment, you will craft an argument on your views around modern acts of
heroism. Why might heroism matter in the modern world? Why might it not? Is heroism
overrated? Have we moved beyond the heroic life? These are some of the questions you might
consider when crafting your thesis statement.
This essay requires you to use a minimum of two sources that we read in class (do not use one
that you have already written a paper on) and to research at least two additional scholarly
sources to support your argument. You must use the university library, local library, or Google
Scholar to locate your sources. While you have no primary source, you should have 4 sources
total. Please do not introduce all four in the intro.
Remember that you are not summarizing the opinions of the author, rather you are adding on or
contributing to the conversation that you are discussing. During the course of your essay, you
will make meaningful connections between the various articles you have discovered and analyze
the material. It is important to ask meaningful questions of yourself in order to deeply analyze
the concepts you are discussing.
Requirements:
 You must have four sources. Two must come from your class readings and two must be
scholarly sources you located through the databases.
 Must include a properly cited work cited page.
 Your essay should have an original title.
 Your essay must be in MLA format.
 The paper must be 6-7 pages, typed, double-spaced, 12 point Times New Roman font,
with page numbers.
 Draft Outline must include (full intro with thesis, 3-4 topic sentences with 3-4 pieces of
supporting evidence)
 Both draft outline and final drafts must be submitted through plagiarism software built
in to our online platform submission window for credit.
 AI should not be used to generate material for this essay, although it might be used in
order to revise for grammar and punctuation. You may also use AI to ask for feedback.

Compose a four-page essay centered on the book Mindset: The New Psychology of Success by Carol S. Dweck, Ph.D. The essay should begin with an introduction that piques the reader’s curiosity, introduces Dr. Carol Dweck and her book, and defines the two mindsets: growth and fixed mindset. The introduction should also contain indirect quotes from chapters 1 to 4 and end with a thesis statement that outlines three strategies that can be employed to cultivate a growth mindset in college and career. I wrote some instructions and pasted some from the assignment onto the document. I have also attached the Rubric for the assignment.

So, the assignment is to do a 17-page paper about anything.
I chose to do an assignment on getting to know my parents because I know very little about their pasts. I wrote the first two pages so you can read it and get a jist of what needs to be  added and what I’m talking about. and if you feel like anything needs to be added please do.  its at the point in the essay where I start to slowly introduce the interview. I need the entire interview put into essay format. so not just placing the interview there and saying done. But doing a like analysis of their responses and what you think it means in how they decided to raise me and my siblings. also to get some background I am a 20 year old Muslim from New York in his sophomore year about to be a junior of college. if you need any more info just let me know.

For your final essay for this class, you must write a 6-8 page research paper on a topic of your choosing.  This essay must consider at least two of the social theorists discussed over the course of the semester (or another, related social theorist, with instructor’s approval) and connect their work to some element of human social behavior.   
For example: you might choose to discuss a social ritual such as marriage and analyze it using the social theories of Emile Durkheim and Judith Butler.  Or, you might choose to write about a particular social situation, like a workplace, drawing on the work of Karl Marx and Erving Goffman.  The specific situation chosen matters less than the connections you are able to draw between it and the theorists we have read in the class.  Papers will be judged, primarily, on your ability to demonstrate that you know how to apply the work of social theorists we have read to specific sociological data, and that you are able to compare and contrast theorists effectively. 
The final paper is due at the end of the semester, May 22nd at 5pm.  It will be graded according to the following rubric:

Papers should have a formal thesis statement at the beginning, should describe the project and the structure of the paper itself, and should be well-structured internally, using signpost statements to mark the development of your argument.
