  • The Power of Evidence: Why Research is Essential in Argumentative Essays

Write a 750-1000 word argumentation/persuasion essay using any approach as a method of development.
You MUST cite a minimum of two references/sources. Research is REQUIRED for this essay.
An effective argumentative essay must have evidence to make its case; most arguments that occur in daily life happen in the heat of the moment and are more likely directed toward saving one’s own pride than toward giving clear and supportive proof to one’s claims.
    Checklist
Did you use research material in this assignment? Research is REQUIRED for this assignment.
Do you have a Works Cited page at the end of your essay with the title Works Cited?
Do you have at least two sources?
Are those two sources cited in the paper using either paraphrases or direct quotations?
Did you define words, use a dictionary, or use an encyclopedia? If so, those sources and information from those sources must be removed. Most common words or words used with their well-known definition do not need to be defined in an essay. Dictionaries and encyclopedias are NOT argumentative sources.
Did you use MLA 8th edition to cite your sources within the text?
Have you used parenthetical references within the text to show that you are paraphrasing or quoting?
Does the word/name in each parenthetical reference match the first word/name in the corresponding Works Cited entry?
Is your thesis a single, concise sentence?
Does the thesis state the argument the essay will make?
Is the file properly named, as advised?
Does the essay refer to itself? (For example, are you writing lines like, “In this essay, I will . . .? If so, remove them.)
Does your paper have the correct MLA format (margin, font, space, etc)?
    Did you run spellcheck?
Does your conclusion make a “so what” point?
Have you met the minimum word requirement?
Have all contractions been removed? (This is a formal essay.)
Does the essay have logical transitions throughout?
Are all of your sentences in each paragraph in the subject + verb sentence structure?

  • Observing and Evaluating Health and Safety in Licensed Child Care Centers Observing Health and Safety Measures in Early Childhood Education Settings Title: Promoting Positive Emotional Climate and Encouraging Risky Play in Early Childhood Education

    Introduction and Objectives:
For this assignment you will use videos to observe and evaluate the health and safety conditions in a variety of licensed child care centers. This assignment addresses two Student Learning Outcomes (SLO) for CDE 112: SLO 2 – Evaluate environments for both positive and negative impacts on children’s health and safety; SLO 3 – Reference current regulations, standards, policies, and procedures related to health, safety, and nutrition in early childhood settings.
Preparation (all page numbers below refer to Health, Safety, and Nutrition for the Young Child, 9th Ed):
Review Teachers’ Safety Checklist 7-4: Indoor and Outdoor Spaces (p. 185-186)
Review Teacher Checklist 5-3: How and When to Wash Hands (p. 126)
Review Teacher Checklist 5-4: Sanitary Diapering Procedure (p. 127)
Review Teacher Checklist 8-3: Guidelines for Selecting Safe Toys and Play Equipment (p. 214)
Read assigned article: Supporting Young Children’s Risky Play
Instructions and Sample: The eight (08) video clips are divided into sections based on the Health and Safety Checklist. For each video, you will select and describe a portion of the action or environment, and compare what was observed to criteria outlined in the Health and Safety Checklist, explaining the ways the observation either meets, or does not meet, the standard(s). In addition, you will identify what you would have liked to observe on the video to be able to completely judge the component. Be sure to include a variety of checklist items in each section. Below is a sample:
Sample Video: Evan, Elyas, Lyric, and Itiah On the Bus (run time: 5:25 minutes)
What was observed? (This can be a summary or portion of the video.)I observed four children playing in the dramatic play area of the classroom. One child indicates that, “We need to go.” Two of the children move to an adjacent platform area (with two steps) and pretend to get on a bus. The girl uses a coat rack to simulate driving the bus. When they have completed the bus ride, the two children go back down the two steps. The boy has his hands full with a briefcase and other items, and he stumbles a bit on the two steps but recovers and does not fall.
In what ways does this relate to one of the measures on the Health and Safety Checklist? (Does it meet the criteria? Why or why not? Be sure to include the Item Number from the Checklist for reference.)When evaluating the classroom layout and materials, I was impressed by the size of the dramatic play area. The four children moved about comfortably, engaging with each other and a variety of props. I believe this play area is in compliance with Item 13, which indicates that “play equipment and materials are stored in designated areas; they are inspected frequently and safe for children’s use.” I noticed that the child stumbled on the steps, and wondered if a handrail or ramp should have been available, but in checking Item 16, “Stairs are covered with a non-slip surface.” A ramp for the steps would be useful for a child with mobility concerns. What would you have liked to observe in the video related to the item number you referenced, or to a different item on the checklist? I noticed that there was a string of lights hanging down the wall on the left side of the platform area. This appears to violate Item 10, which indicates that “electrical outlets are covered with safety caps.” The lights appeared to be just hanging straight down, and should have been strung out of children’s reach to be in compliance.
Assignment Requirements: Please write your paper using the sequence provided. Section 1: Equipment and Furnishings — Indoor and Outdoor Checklist Video 1: Evan and Pharoh At the Water Table (run time: 2:31 minutes)- Indoor Checklist What was observed? What was observed? (This should be a portion of the video.) In what ways does your observation relate to the three strategies below of Positive Emotional Climate provided in the video: Building Connections/Quality of the Relationships
Are we smiling when children are talking to us
Are we providing wait time for children to respond?
What would you have liked to observe in the video related to the strategies for “Provisions of Positive Emotional Climate?” Section 5: Analysis and Reflection Safety guidelines and checklists are designed to keep children healthy and safe by providing stimulating environments that prevent injury. However, some parents and researchers argue that we limit children’s potential when we provide environments that are “too safe”. After evaluating the videos 1-4 (Indoor/Outdoor Checklists) and reading the article, Supporting Young Children’s Risky Play, choose one of these videos that demonstrate one concept or perspective from the article and answer the following questions:
Identify one concept from the article on risky play that you would like to discuss.
Choose one video from videos 1-4 to demonstrate that concept. Name the video and describe what you observed.
What details from the video illustrate the concept you chose? Provide three examples with details.
In what ways could you share information about risky play with families and/or coworkers? What aspects would you want to convey to them?

  • Listening to Advice: The Role of Research Writing in Academic Writing and the Importance of Self-Evaluation and Critique

    Requirement: 200-300 words; Threaded format
1.Prompt: Reflect on Proverbs 12:15, “The way of a fool is right in his own eyes, but a wise man listens to advice.” How is research writing a way of listening to advice? How should Christians approach research writing? Or, if you like, how would a fool approach research writing, and how should we strive to be different?
2.Find two internet sources related to your topic and compare and contrast their quality as college sources. Note that these should be internet sources, not sources from the library – this is an exercise, and you will probably not use these sources in your paper. Some questions to consider: why is one superior to the other? Do both writers have credibility? Is one of the sources better written than the other? Are both ultimately strong or weak? Share your evaluation. Your submission should contain APA references for each source.
3.Practice “reverse outlining” by creating a brief outline of the essay, “Is Google Making Us Stupid” in the Field Guide Begin by making a brief marginal note summarizing each paragraph. Then, review your notes to come up with 3-4 main sections of the essay. Include 3-4 key subpoints for each of your 3-4 main sections. In the end, you should have at least 9 bullet points. Here’s the key, though – a reader must be able to get a sense of the entire essay from your outline. For your response post, consider finding an outline that emphasized different points than yours and comment on the differences between the two.
4.Reflect on the project of the annotated bibliography (AB). Have you written with an AB before? What has been most challenging for you? Have you been able to turn the AB into a document that will help you organize your research in a vital way? Why or why not? What sources did you choose to include, and what are some sources you decided to leave out? Will you use annotated bibliographies in future research projects or only if you are required to submit them?
5.Reflect on Proverbs 10:9. Why is it so important for Christians, particularly, to submit their own original work? Why is it important for Christians to be careful with citations?
6.Write a discussion post on any topic. Include two direct quotations with effective signals, correct in-text citations, and correct references at the bottom of the post. Make one error! In your response to a classmate, identify that classmate’s error and state how it should be fixed.
7.Give specific examples of how MacKay and Kristof use ethos, pathos, and logos in their essays. Remember that ethos is the establishment of the writer’s credibility, pathos is an appeal to the reader’s emotions, and logos is an appeal to the reader’s mind. Successful responses will use specific textual references.
8.Explain the rhetorical situation of your research essay. What is your topic, and what stance are you taking toward the topic? Describe your audience, going beyond “an academic audience.” What assumptions are you making about what your audience believes? What points will you need to emphasize for this audience, and how will you appeal to their minds and hearts? Are there any special considerations around the occasion of your essay? That is to say, is it timely in any particular way? If so, how will you work that into your paper?
9.Write a paragraph that shows effective synthesis of at least two sources. Remember to use key synthesis phrases like “in contrast to X, Y asserts” or “Both X and Y agree. . ..” Your paragraph must be in standard APA format, at least 8 sentences in length, and must effectively synthesize at least two sources.
10.What did you observe in your self-evaluation? What are some of the challenges of critiquing your own writing? If you asked a friend or family member to read your paper, did that help you to reconsider some aspects of the composition? After your self-evaluation, what are the most important changes you need to make to your paper?

    Greetings class and professor,
This class has been challenging, allowed me to really focus on my studies without feeling too overwhelmed, but while also learning a lot in a short amount of time. My research skills with each weeks required reading really helped understand the discussions each week as well.
One thing I could have definitely done better with this class is read more articles that had to do with the topic. One thing I tend to do with online school is become lazy with some reading and just focus on 1-2 articles. I really would like to start helping myself to understand better with my own research and I do feel like this class has been one of the better classes with helping me with it!
The one discussion I had trouble with was week 4, developing supplier performance. The only reason I struggle with that is that the reading provided did not match other sources from outside with research, but that could just be a personal struggle I had and no one else could’ve felt that way!
Some take aways from this course that I can apply would be to always be transparent, realistic and trust worthy with not only myself but to those I will work with in the future. I’ve noticed that in a lot of the readings or discussions those are some important traits to carry towards relationships in this field. Regardless, those are very important traits to have as a person!
Thank you for all the discussions and interactions during this course. Good luck to everyone and their future endeavors!

The most important economic principle I learned from this course is the concept of supply and demand. Supply and demand dynamics are crucial in macroeconomics as they form the basis for analysing how markets function and how changes in various factors affect the economy as a whole. Supply and demand represent the relationship between the quantity of a good or service that producers are willing to supply and the quantity that consumers are willing to buy at different prices; they are key as they explain how prices are determined in a market economy. Understanding supply and demand enables economists analyse various macroeconomic phenomena such as unemployment, inflation, and economic growth. For instance, when there is an increase in aggregate demand relative to aggregate supply, it can lead to demand-pull inflation as prices rise due to excess demand. Conversely, if aggregate demand falls short of aggregate supply, it can result in deflationary pressures and unemployment as businesses reduce production and lay off workers.
Moreover, supply and demand analysis is critical for policymakers in formulating appropriate economic policies. For instance, during periods of recession, policymakers may use expansionary monetary and fiscal policies to stimulate aggregate demand and boost economic activity. Conversely, during periods of high inflation, contractionary policies may be employed to reduce demand and stabilize prices.
In essence, the principle of supply and demand is key to understanding macroeconomics as it provides insights into how markets work, how prices are determined, and how changes in various factors affect the overall economy. By mastering supply and demand analysis, policymakers can make more informed decisions to promote economic growth and stability.
