Reading Quiz 3: Bhagavad Gita

EXCEPTION: In the Norton anthology’s introduction to the Bhagavad Gita and in the introductory essay titled “India’s Ancient Epics and Tales,” the editors spell Krishna as Krsna and Vishnu as Visnu (with dots under some letters). This is annoying. In your own writing, please use the standard spellings: Krishna and Vishnu. That’s what your instructor does.

One way to consider a character in a literary work as a hero is that he or she is the one who determines and qualifies the actions and attitudes of other characters. Explain how Quixote can be viewed as a hero in this sense, examining one or more of the characters of Sancho, Antonia, the curate and the barber, and/or Sansón Carrasco.
How does the juxtaposition of fact and fiction within the work, including the “historical” accounts of Don Quixote’s exploits as a knight errant to which the readers are often referred, present the reality of the two main characters, Don Quixote/Señor Quejana and Sancho Panza? How do the characters keep the balance between madness and sanity, between imagination and reality, and/or between right and wrong?

Describe a time in your life when you chose to be honest, even though you knew it would lead to adversity. What were the circumstances, and what motivated you to make the honest decision? How did you deal with the challenges that followed, and what did you learn from the experience about the value of honesty and personal integrity? Explain in a five-paragraph essay using a first-person point of view.
