The test is open book, so use quotes from the plays in your essay responses. Cite the quotes from the primary source. If you use any secondary sources, you must cite all information and direct quotes from them and include a Works Cited page in MLA format. Put all your responses in one Microsoft Word document and submit it to the dropbox. Be sure to double space the entire document. A Discussion Board rubric is attached to give you guidance on grading.

What is Señor Quejana’s motivation for slipping into the persona of Don Quixote?
To what extent does the readers’ knowledge of the stories in Alonso Quejana’s library help them to understand Don Quixote’s quest for knight errantry?
Why does Carrasco as the Knight of the Mirrors and the Knight of the White Moon fight Don Quixote?
Why do Don Quixote and Sancho Panza need to leave La Mancha for their adventures to occur?
How does the role of the journey in Don Quixote compare with the journey in Gilgamesh, in which the heroes’ journeys play a central role?

One way to consider a character in a literary work as a hero is that he or she is the one who determines and qualifies the actions and attitudes of other characters. Explain how Quixote can be viewed as a hero in this sense, examining one or more of the characters of Sancho, Antonia, the curate and the barber, and/or Sansón Carrasco.
How does the juxtaposition of fact and fiction within the work, including the “historical” accounts of Don Quixote’s exploits as a knight errant to which the readers are often referred, present the reality of the two main characters, Don Quixote/Señor Quejana and Sancho Panza? How do the characters keep the balance between madness and sanity, between imagination and reality, and/or between right and wrong?
