Some topics that you may choose from are: Marriage, Divorce, Parenting, Death, Stepfamilies, Aging, Caretaking, Births, Teenage Pregnancy, Gender Roles in Relationship, Cohabitation, Dual Income Families, Mixed Race Families, Same Sex Families, Single Parenting, etc. Select a topic and research different peer reviewed articles and/or books on the topic and report out in an annotated bibliography style PowerPoint. You should have no less than FIVE peer reviewed articles and/or books for this assignment. For the PowerPoint, introduce your topic, (i.e., Marriage rates among African-Americans) with your name, date, etc. Then for each slide include the citation of the peer reviewed article or book with a summary (no more than a paragraph). Include in the paragraph how this source relates to your topic, the source’s strengths and weaknesses as related to your topic, its conclusions, why is this source relevant to your topic chosen, the relationship to other studies in the field of Sociology, and your personal conclusions about the source. Then proceed to provide no less than five (5) entries on a single PowerPoint page of your topic. And be sure to put the citation in APA format at the heading of the PowerPoint.   • “The Changing Face of Family: A Sociological Case Study of My Own Family”

    You will write one (1) paper during the semester, 6-8 pages in length NOT INCLUDING THE TITLE AND REFERENCE PAGES. In this paper, you will use your own family as a case study as you analyze trends in how families have changed over time while incorporating a sociological theoretical perspective as well as your reading and comprehension from the textbook.
    Using both a sociological theory and the sociological approach to study the family and how it contributes to society, you will examine your family’s set of norms, expectations, traditions, roles, statuses, and values, etc. You should interview members in your family across generations, (i.e., elders, middle age, youth, adolescents, etc.) Please provide names and ages in your paper. The paper should be written in APA format. You can research APA format if you are unsure of what it is. The paper should consist of an Introduction of the subject matter (A Theme for your paper) and your family; a Review of the Literature (In this section, you can provide relationships from the textbook, readings, and/or any other sociology courses regarding sociological theoretical perspectives); Your paper must have a Sociological Theory to explain your family, relationships, trends, ideologies, interactions, etc. Reflection/Position Section (This section is where you include your position and/or reflection on the subject/interviewed aligned with the textbook, readings, discussions, etc.) The Conclusion is simply the summary of the paper. A PowerPoint presentation should accompany this paper.
