what people do and how social worlds are organized. For example, sports in the
U.S. can perpetuate narrow and limited views of topics such as race and skin
color. Likewise, sports also provide contexts for people to challenge and
change such beliefs—think Jackie Robinson and Major League Baseball.
The study of
sports in society allows us to think critically about sports and to work with
others to make sports what we want them to be in our lives. With this in mind,
