Critical Self-Reflections
Purpose: An important component to being an effective social worker is developing skills at critical self-reflection. As a social work scholar and member of this classroom community, you are expected to read and be prepared to discuss the readings, as well as any other class material, and your thoughts on them in class. This assignment is designed to assist you in this process by providing you with the opportunity to critically engage in written or verbal self-reflections. 
Directions: You should submit a critical self-reflection based on the modules leading up to that week. Reflections can be written (2-3 pages). Your reflection should not summarize the readings/modules; rather, you should critically reflect on your reactions. Consider the following questions as a guide for your reflection. You do not need to answer EACH question for EVERY reflection. These are just meant to guide the critical reflection process.

Social workers must be familiar with current research on best practices in social work.  Theory informs best practices, and as theory continues to evolve and change in response to changes and complexities in the field of practice, it’s crucial to be familiar with the research.

In your literature review, include a discussion of issues of bias in the research and the use of anti-racist or anti-oppressive theoretical perspectives used to evaluate, analyze, and interpret research. Clients that receive services from Human Services Professionals are quite diverse. Some are voluntary clients, meaning, they actively seek out services and are oftentimes invested in achieving better life circumstances. Involuntary clients, on the other hand, are not as receptive to receiving assistance from Human Services Professionals. Involuntary clients are forced to receive services and are, in many instances, challenging clients. Think of the characteristics of voluntary clients (those wanting help) and involuntary clients (those who present challenges towards receiving needed services). In a three-page double-spaced paper, answer the following questions:
With voluntary and involuntary clients, why is it important that these clients understand the impact of their current level of functioning and to be educated towards the benefits towards change?
What are the short-term and long-term benefits of clients understanding resources that can assist them?
What are the challenges of assisting clients with accessing resources and services? How can a Human Services Professional address these challenges?

The purpose of this paper is to explore and reflect (Cognitive and Affective Processes) your personal value system and how it can be integrated into what you have learned in class (NASW Code of Ethics, CSWE Core Competencies, Social Work Values and Unique Perspectives (Strengths, PIE, Ecosystems), ETC), in readings, through course discussions, and personal and professional situations and brought and what you think will be strengths and challenges along with current self-care/regulation practices and how these can be relied upon and broadened for your future as a social worker.

It is anticipated that the initial discussion post should be in the range of 250-300 words. Response posts to peers have no minimum word requirement but must demonstrate topic knowledge and scholarly engagement with peers. Substantive content is imperative for all posts. All discussion prompt elements for the topic must be addressed. Please proofread your response carefully for grammar and spelling. Do not upload any attachments unless specified in the instructions. Classroom Participation
Students are expected to address the initial discussion question by Wednesday of each week. Participation in the discussion forum requires a minimum of three (3) substantive postings (this includes your initial post and posting to two peers) on three (3) different days. Substantive means that you add something new to the discussion supported with citation(s) and reference(s), you are not just agreeing. This is also a time to ask questions or offer information surrounding the topic addressed by your peers. Personal experience is appropriate for a substantive discussion, however should be correlated to the literature.
All discussion boards will be evaluated utilizing rubric criterion inclusive of content, analysis, collaboration, writing and APA. If you fail to post an initial discussion or initial discussion is late, you will not receive points for content and analysis, you may however post to your peers for partial credit following the guidelines above.
Initial Response
Instructions:For the discussion question this week, select one of the three scenarios and construct a questionnaire. Scenario 1: Assume that you are a new social worker employed in a residential complex for retired people. In talking to one resident, you find out that he has complaints about the quality of the food, the limited variety of social activities, and the inadequate transportation to nearby stores and restaurants. He states also that the administrators of the facility tend to ignore his complaints and those of other residents.
Scenario 2: The local non affordable housing provider would like to construct a new affordable housing unit in a neighborhood close to the downtown area. In preliminary discussions with neighbors, they report some residents may be concerned about a new affordable housing unit in their neighborhood.
Scenario 3: Assume you are a social worker in a hospital emergency room providing crisis services. In your work you notice that many people seem to be frustrated with the length of time they are required to wait before being seen by the social worker.
Please complete the following prompts for your discussion post:
Construct a questionnaire composed of six questions that will help you to find out the extent to which the concepts in the scenario can be measured. Use quantitative survey questions.
Briefly give your rationale for at least three of the questions you selected. Use references from the literature to support the survey questions you selected.

I helped with family visitation of parents who lost custody of their children and I also observed parenting classes, and assessments of new clients.

A CASE OF A NEW IMMIGRANT
Imagine that you are an immigrant arriving in a new country. Perhaps you are escaping persecution, famine, or war, or simply pursuing a better life. Perhaps you are detained at the border. You do not have any support networks in this new country, or if you do, they are distant relations. You do not know how the legal system works. You may not know the official language. What would you need? Where would you go?
Social workers are positioned to support new immigrants in their access to services, navigation of systems and policies, and mental and physical health. They must demonstrate cultural humility by, for example, integrating questions related to cultural formulation into their interviews and assessments.
In this Discussion, you research a global or displaced population and create a scenario in which a member of that population immigrates to the United States. You then respond to a colleague’s case scenario by describing how you would engage with the immigrant client as a social worker.
To prepare:
Review the American Psychiatric Association’s information on cultural formulation, as well as the Think Cultural Health video showing the cultural formulation interview in practice.
Identify and research a global or displaced population to focus on for this Discussion. Imagine that a member of this population immigrates to the United States. What strengths and challenges might they have? Develop a brief case scenario describing the immigrant’s experience.
Post your original case scenario involving a new immigrant to the United States. In your scenario:
Identify the country of origin, language(s) spoken, and any employment, housing, legal, or family concerns of the individual.(I’m from cuba )
