“Creating Positive Change in Sports: My Vision for the Future”
ANALYSIS ASSIGNMENT INSTRUCTIONS
OVERVIEW
It is often believed that “sports are reflections of our society.” While this statement is accepted as
true, some would also argue that sports are much more than mere reflections of society. Sports
are social practices that actively influence what people do and how social worlds are organized.
For example, sports in the U.S. can perpetuate narrow and limited views of topics such as race
and skin color. Likewise, sports also provide contexts for people to challenge and change such
beliefs—think Jackie Robinson and Major League Baseball.
Each of the Analysis Assignments below will help you study sports, society, and how
they affect each other.
