  • Submission to the Parliamentary Committee on Health and Wellbeing: Addressing the Mental Health Crisis in Australia Table of Contents I. Introduction II. Background III. Addressing the Terms of Reference IV. Strategies to Address the Mental Health

    AT3 Parliamentary submission:
This assessment task requires you to write a submission to a parliamentary committee. Your aim will be to persuade political decision-makers to make changes to the current situation or make suggestions for future action on a specific topic. This is a task that is often required of those working in community health, health promotion or public health in general, especially when there is a health concern directly related to the clientele of that organisation. What to include in my submission There are a variety of ways to present a parliamentary submission and this is different with each level of government and type of inquiry. Some set out strict guidelines and others can be more casual in how they want you to set it out. What they all have in common though is that every submission must respond to the Terms of Reference. They usually ask you to identify key problems or issues that need to be addressed and to support these with evidence, which could be in the form of relevant research, laws, policies or findings. There are choices, you will be choosing to write a submission for ONE inquiry in the list you will find it in the Instructions file.
For this assignment, you are required to present your submission following these guidelines:
    1/ Table of contents
2/ Opening paragraphs with an introduction to the main points in your submission (executive summary)
3/ A background to the issue you have chosen to focus on, including an outline of which Terms of Reference you will be addressing
4/ Propose strategies to address your chosen issue
5/ Propose 3 recommendations for future policy action Below is the Instructions file, the narrated PowerPoint for AT3 and here are the slides in PDF and a copy of the rubric.
Please use an Australian writer and use APA7. Minimum of 10 references.

  • Title: Participatory Learning and Action: Engaging Communities in Health in All Policies through Appreciative Inquiry Interviews

Participatory learning and action (PLA) tools are used to engage communities in a process of shared decision-making around their strengths and assets. Action steps are often identified by the group to make social, economic, or environmental changes in their community. Select and practice one of the following participatory learning and action tools:
    Community asset map
    Holistic worldview analysis
    Appreciative inquiry interview
Problem tree analysis (also called diagramming)
    Photovoice
Guides on how to facilitate the tools are described in the community engagement and PLA resources in the topic Resources. Identify an individual or group of individuals with whom you are currently working as part of your job, service, volunteerism, or family. Review the selected tool and become familiar with the process and purpose of the tool prior to facilitating it with your selected individual or group.
In a 1,000-1,250-word essay, discuss the following:
What tool did you select and why did you select it instead of the other options?
What cultural insight did you learn based on the individual or group you selected? Include a brief descriiption of the individual or group you engaged for this
    assignment.
What challenges did you identify in facilitating the tool?
Discuss how the participants responded to the tool regarding their participation and shared decision-making. Consider how PLA tools are focused on building the
capacity of people versus projects or programs.
A Health in All Policies approach, which include economic and environmental factors, is important in addressing the interconnectedness of health factors to support holistic transformation. Discuss how this community engagement approach through such a tool is useful for assessing a Health in All Policies approach. In addition, consider how this approach is effective in reducing health disparities by addressing economic and environmental issues through community mobilization and assets. Review the website and introductory report on “Health in All Policies,” by the American Public Health Association (APHA), and “What You Need to Know About Health in All Policies,” by the World Health Organization (WHO), located in the topic Resources for additional insight.

  • “Balancing Client Autonomy and Mandated Treatment: Exploring Ethical Considerations in the Helping Professions”

One of those that is quite common in the helping professions is the balance between client autonomy and mandated treatment. Is it ethical for a client to be mandated to participate in treatment against their wishes, or at a higher intensity than they would prefer? One example is the mandatory sentencing of clients to 26 weeks of treatment services in response to a DWI charge, which is commonplace in Maryland. Another example is problem-solving courts, like drug courts and mental health courts. In these situations, does it violate our ethical principles to compel clients into treatment to avoid negative consequences, like jail? Why or why not?
