  • Understanding Depression: A Comprehensive Overview of Symptoms, Causes, and Treatment Options Introduction: Depression is a complex and often misunderstood psychological disorder that affects millions of people worldwide. As a society, we have made great strides in understanding and treating this disorder,

For my assignment I woudl like to talk about Depression. Below I will include the inctructions and examples given to me for the assignment.
    Proffesor instruction/ Examples:
Now, let me further explain the paper. First, let’s say you pick a psychological disorder that you are interested in, pretend I know nothing on this specific topic. You are interested in teaching me about this disorder or method. Now, the disorder I wrote about a long time ago was a developmental disorder known as Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD).
    ______
So, the actual paper, how am I going to write this?  First off, there is a minimum of three pages (single spaced) but since it is APA it will be double spaced which is 6 pages. Please make sure they are full pages (I will grade on: Transition, Flow, Content, Intro, Body, Conclusion, APA style, Grammar, References). Times New Roman 12 font. Importantly, the topic you chose, make sure to relate to brain and behavior and what you are truly interested in.
How I would break up my paper: Intro, body, conclusion. You can create other sections – this is your paper and this is the basic format expected but you can go beyond using images, graphs, tables, just make sure you reference. I encourage you to be creative as much as you would like.
So, the intro, when I did my paper way back, I spoke about what ADHD was, a little history, definition, explanation, maybe address a controversy on the topic with current and past research in the body. Don’t begin with an argument, you are introducing the disorder to your audience (me) so give your audience an understanding of the disorder. A solid background is imperative. I remember when I was an undergraduate student and I had to do this assignment, later in my life I worked at a clinic and would talk to people suffering from drug and alcohol addiction and you would be surprised how many people I worked with didn’t believe or understand or had heard of different psychological disorders. Importantly, this is why a background is super important, you captivate your audience in a way where they want to learn more about the topic. Clear and concise.
Now the body, I would have research, current, past, how we study the disorder what we know, what we don’t know, what we are learning. Now, it says on the syllabus research, but you can get all your info online. Check PubMed and PsychInfo or google scholar. If you need help finding a paper, I will help you find them, if you’re lost, just ask me. But the body of the paper has to teach us another level of information, you can even highlight controversial topics. I highlighted when I did ADHD on the idea of prescribing medication to babies when at that time a medical doctor wasn’t supposed to prescribe younger than 7 (this may have changed it’s been a while) but this was something I highlighted. Once again, this is your paper, but pretend I know nothing on the topic and you are excited to teach me.
The conclusion is exactly what it is, make sure you start by restating what you are studying and why, do not copy and paste, restate it, really think about it. I have you organize this information a certain way just in case you need to reference it once day again. But the conclusion will connect everything together and really convince your audience that this is a true disorder or interesting topic. Also, this is why and how we study this topic and what we know about the disorder and maybe end with future directions. You can use brain imaging studies, pictures of the brain, case studies, animal and human studies. Just be as creative as you would like and a lot of students are going to write about the same disorder or method, this is fine, everyone is going to have their own individual paper.

  • “Revising a Literature Review: A Case Study of ADHD Interventions for College Students”

I recently turned in a literature review that is part of a research proposal and made a 0/30. I am going to attach the orginal paper that I scored a 0/30, and the one with the annoted revision comments from my professor and my version of a revision. (I tried to change the direction on if it but I’m still not sure if it is right). But, basically the whole thing needed to be done over because my professor said it was more like a research paper and not a literature review.

  • A Comparative Analysis of Hock’s Study on Conformity and a Recent Experimental Journal Article on Social Influence Introduction: Understanding the Concept of Conformity The issue of conformity has been a topic of interest in the field of psychology for decades Title: A Critical Comparison of Two Studies on the Effects of Social Media on Mental Health

You will choose a reading from Roger Hock’s book Forty Studies that Changed Psychology. This book contains easy to read versions of classic studies in psychology.  The Hock Reading you choose will be the focus of your course paper. You can choose any of the readings that you wish.
For this scholarly analysis you will utilize the following literature:
The Hock article you choose, referenced as a chapter in 40 Studies, not as the original study.
One recent (published within the past 10 years) academic peer-reviewed article – referred to in the rest of this assignment as the “recent experimental journal article” (See the Psychology Research Guide – Journal list on the Molloy University Library website (you may not use articles already discussed in the Hock Reading – click here for help with the appropriate journals). You may also use Google Scholar, which you could access by clicking here.
This recent experimental journal article must report experimental findings (contains a hypothesis, a sample, and a research method used to collect the data) will be used for the compare and contrast section of the paper.
The OpenStax: Psychology, 2e textbook to give you background information on your area of psychology. For example, if you choose Asch’s classic study on conformity, you would utilize the textbook for information on the area of social psychology.
Critically think about and explain the issue/problem researched: Provide an introductory paragraph which indicates the title and author of the Hock Reading as well as a critical consideration of the issue or problem under investigation in this area of research. Demonstrate you have a full understanding of the topic.  For example a study about the environment in which students learn best would be a learning study and would require an introduction to the concept of learning and the issue being addressed by this research. Cite your references in APA style.
    Describe the Hock research study:
State the hypothesis of this study.
Describe the research sample.  This should involve a description of those who are being studied.
Describe the research method used to collect the data for the study in detail, make sure to explain novel apparatus used as well as terminology introduced (such as confederate).
Provide a brief summary of the author’s findings.  Indicate whether the hypothesis has been supported.
    4.   Describe the recent experimental journal article:
State the hypothesis of this study.
Describe the research sample.  This should involve a description of those who are being studied.
Describe the research method used to collect the data for the study in detail, make sure to explain novel apparatus used as well as terminology introduced (such as confederate).
Provide a brief summary of the author’s findings.  Indicate whether the hypothesis has been supported.
NOTE for both 3 and 4 – Critically thinking about the evidence:  Information needs to be taken from your sources with enough interpretation/evaluation to develop a comprehensive analysis.  Do not “lift” the hypothesis, sample, research method and summary sections from the article.  In other words, report what these are in your own words.
Do not quote more than 2 or 3 sentences in the entire essay and when you do quote use APA style citation to give the author credit.
Critically think about your position: This is where you need to take a specific position and synthesize the points of view of the Hock study and the research article. Explain your position on how they relate and differ.
How it is similar or different from the Hock study you chose.
This section requires you to write a thorough compare and contrast between the classic study found in your Hock book and the recent experimental study found in your search of journal articles through the library (for example you may discuss sample issues such as diversity of the participants in terms of age, gender, race, economic status; you may discuss methodological differences/similarities in the studies; you may include differences/similarities in the findings of the two studies; please note there are many points for comparison/contrast not included in the examples given above).
Critically think about related outcomes: This is where you need to form conclusions and express the implications and consequences of this line of research.
In the concluding section of your paper, reflect on this area of psychology and predict what studies will be done in the future.  Suggest a follow-up study; how would it be done and how would it contribute to the field.

  • “Promoting an Open Therapeutic Environment: Addressing Differences in Values and Beliefs in Counseling”

Good post. Promoting an open and nonjudgmental therapeutic environment can help deter counselors from expressing their values to a client, which can lead to discrimination and imposition in the therapeutic relationship (Corey, Corey & Corey, 2019). Actions a counselor might take when confronted with clients they find difficult to treat due to differences in values/beliefs on abortion, for example, are to explore this issue from a legal perspective. Especially since this is an emotionally charged topic, mental health professionals must be sensitive, knowledgeable and familiar with legal requirements from state to state and even to consult an attorney when needed. Laws, regulations, and policies on parental consent vary widely on clients considering an abortion, especially if they are minors. Reference
