  • “Analyzing the Impact of Separation and Divorce on Children and Families: A Review of Current Research”

    Article Discussion
    Article Discussion (50) points
You will complete one Article Discussion assignment this semester. The article must be a peer reviewed journal article. If you have any questions about choosing an appropriate article or whether a source is authoritative, please feel free to email me no later than one week before this assignment is due or talk to me during office hours. To complete your Article Discussion, you must find an article related to a topic listed below, read that article, and write a 3-page summary on the article highlighting the most important information from the article. The summary must be detailed enough to provide the reader with a good understanding of the article without having to read the entire article. You must also incorporate relevant information from your textbook and from lectures in your summary with proper APA citation. The summary is worth 30 points. Proper APA style is worth 10 points. After completing the summary, you must create 10 discussion questions based on your article and summary. Use opened ended questions so the reader would have to explain their answers and not just say “Yes.” Or “No.” The questions are worth 1 point each or 10 points in total.
The Article Discussion Assignment will be turned in online through Canvas by May 3rd @ 11:59pm. Articles are of the student’s choosing but MUST be about relatively current research (something written in the last 10-15 years) and address one of the following topics:
    John Gottman’s Couples Counseling
The 5 Love Languages The impact of separation/divorce and the Family Court System on children and families
Treatment considerations for working with immigrant families/couples Students will turn in their summary, 10 questions, and reference page through Canvas. The Article Discussion must be in APA format. Please review APA 7 style as APA will count for 10 points of the assignment. An excellent resource is the Writing Center on Campus. In addition, please visit the Purdue OWL APA website. There is an example of an entire student paper written in APA 7 style on that website. Our course will use Turn-it-in which is a plagiarism detector. This assignment will be submitted to Turn-it-in.

  • Title: Exploring Developmental Factors Across the Lifespan: A Review of Scholarly Journal Articles

You will need to find 4 articles located in scholarly journals. Scholarly journal articles are also referred as primary source peer reviewed articles. A scholarly journal article can be found in the South University Online Library. To find more information regarding utilizing the South University Library and accessing scholarly journal articles click on Library Guide. What cannot be used for this assignment are web pages, magazines, newspapers, text books, and other books. Finally, current research for our purposes is an article that was published within the last 5 to 6 years.
Remember this is a course on human development so when looking for articles make sure they are related to the subject matter covered in the course. To help in your search here are some of the major areas we covered in this course (these are meant as a guide, not specific topics to find).
Major developmental theories across the lifespan
Nature of geographic, gender, social, cognitive, emotional, and developmental factors during each period of development
Developmental factors that impact one another.
Historical and current trends in development
Current trends which may differentially impact the future development of populations in the United States
Social, and diversity issues related to developmental psychology
With the major areas above in mind, focus on at least two of the following age groups:
    Childhood
    Adolescence
    Adulthood
    Older Adults
First, give an overview of each article, including:
Write a 2-paragraph summary for each article.
Write a 1-2 paragraph analysis and evaluation for each article found.
Make sure to integrate course material in that analysis
Then, write a summary (1-2 pages) integrating what was leaned from the articles reviewed on the chosen age groups as seen from the life-span perspective. Cover the following in that summary:
What similarities did you find in the types of research and what was being studied? What differences did you find?
Based on your course readings, what developmental theories did you find that were applicable?
Explain how the life-span perspective may provide a way of better understanding the research reviewed.

  • “Exploring Two Learning Theories: A Comparative Analysis in an Everyday Learning Situation” Theory Comparison and Intervention Analysis

For this assignment, you will examine how two theories could be compared in their application to an everyday learning situation. You will describe the basic tenets of each theory. Use theory-specific terminology to hypothesize how the person in the case study has learned things so far that has resulted in the current challenge, and what will likely come next. Then, you will provide a theoretically-grounded and evidence-based solution to the problem.
    Assignment Instructions
Choose one of the provided case studies from Learning Theories: Case Studies. There is no need to re-copy the case from the presentation into the paper. Use the case name in the title of your paper, and that will suffice to let your reader know which person you will be working with.
Choose two learning theories from the list provided. Notice that you may be using theories not covered elsewhere in the course. If there is a specific learning theory you are currently working with in your studies that is not in this list, and you would prefer to use it, check with your instructor about using it for this paper.
    Köhler’s insight theory/Gestalt.
    Vygotsky’s sociocultural theory of learning.
    Bruner’s discovery learning.
    Knowles’s andragogy.
Rogers’s humanism (used as a theory of learning).
    Hebb’s neuropsychological theory.
    Miller’s information processing theory.

    Bandura’s social cognitive theory (1986).
    Siegel’s connectivism.
Mayer’s cognitive theory of multimedia learning.
To complete this assignment, you will need to:
Explain the basic assumptions, strengths, and limitations of each learning theory.
Analyze the ability of each theory to explain and predict a case.
Using terms and concepts from your first theory, describe the case study, hypothesizing how this person has learned things so far to result in their current challenge. Then, predict what will come next for them using theoretical concepts.
Then, using terms and concepts from your second theory, describe the case study once again, hypothesizing how this person has learned things so far to result in their current challenge. Then, predict what will come next for them using theoretical concepts.
    Analyze an intervention.
Explore at least one intervention for the challenge presented in the case that would be grounded in or connected with one of the theories.
Explain why it would work better than an intervention grounded in the alternate theory, using evidence from your research.
Apply APA style and formatting to scholarly writing.
Exhibit adherence to stylistic conventions, document structure, and source attributions.
    Additional Requirements
Written communication: Write coherently to support central ideas, in appropriate APA format, and with correct grammar, usage, and mechanics.

  • Data Collection Procedures for Problem Behaviors: Frequency and Interval Recording The Findings of Data Collection Using Frequency and Interval Recording for Problem Behaviors

This week, you will continue to practice data collection procedures using videos of problem behaviors. First, review the Behavior Assessment: Frequency and Interval Recording activity. You may choose to print out the recording forms provided in the activity (pages 3 and 4) or create your own using a similar format. Be sure to review the operational definition of the target behavior provided on each form. Then, watch the Behavior: Frequency and Interval Recording and collect frequency data on the target behavior defined on the Frequency Recording Form. Finally, you will view the video once again, and collect partial interval data on the target behavior defined on the Partial Interval Recording Form.
    Please respond to the following:
Discuss the findings of your data collection experience.
Discuss the frequency data collection experience. What was the total number of behaviors observed? What was rate of the target behavior?
Discuss the results of the partial interval data collection by reporting the percentage of intervals the student engaged in the problem behavior.
Compare the results of the data using both types of measurement.
Discuss the strengths and weaknesses of each method of measurement.
Provide a rationale for using either one for observation of behavior.
What challenges did you have with measuring the frequency and/or partial interval data of this target behavior?
How might you alleviate similar challenges in the future?
