  • Title: Test Development Project: Creating a New Test for Measuring a Psychological Characteristic

For the next few weeks, you will be working on a test development project. The goal of this project is to demonstrate your understanding and application of concepts related to the technical aspects of tests and assessment by creating a new (hypothetical) test.
This week, you will begin by choosing a psychological characteristic on which people differ. A simple, narrow characteristic works best for this assignment. You may want to look ahead to the next two weeks as you will be continuing the project based on your work this week.
Conduct a brief literature review of the psychological characteristic you chose, learning more about it and how it has been defined and measured in the past. Then, answer the following questions about your test. You may use the attached template to help organize your paper.
    Test Topic:
What is the name of your test?
What is your test designed to measure? Be specific.
How do you define the construct being measured? Remember, that to create a test the construct should be defined in ways that can be quantified and measured.
What is the purpose of your test? What real-world behavior will it predict?
    Background:
How has your construct been tested in the past? Include a focused review of the literature in this area, discussing information on specific measures.
Is there a need for your test? How will your test benefit society? How will your test be better or not better than previous tests?
    Conceptualization:
What is the content of your test? Explain why it is covering this content.
Who are the proposed test users? Be specific.
In what setting(s) will the test be used? Be specific.
    Who are the proposed test-takers?
What cultural factors might affect test-taker response?
Be sure to respond to each question completely and provide your reasoning to demonstrate you understand the material. At the same time, be concise – 2 to 3 pages should be sufficient to address these questions. Be sure to appropriately give credit to your sources (e.g., APA style citations and references).

  • Title: The Power of Reinforcement: Understanding Positive and Negative Reinforcement in Behavior Modification

Reinforcement is a regularly used treatment for behavior modification. Reinforcers can include food, blessings, attention, protection, and many other things. However, to be considered a reinforcer, the preferred item must result in an increase of future occurrences of the behavior. Briefly distinguish between the two types of reinforcement (positive and negative reinforcement) and provide brief personal examples. Also, briefly discuss how one of the types of reinforcement has been used in current research. The student will post one thread of at least 300-500 words. For each thread, students must support their assertions with at least 1 scholarly peer- reviewed empirical research article in current APA format. Any sources cited must have been published within the last five years. Acceptable sources include the textbooks from our course and outside sources.

  • “Exploring the Impact of Original Research and Replication on Extended Research Proposals”

    The Final Paper
This paper will have three distinct sections: Original Research, Replication, and Extended Research Proposal, with subsections within each major category. Original Research includes the summarized information of the important parts from the original study you’ve chosen. Replication is set up mirroring the experiment from your original project.
Extended Research Proposal is set up like a research proposal that you plan on conducting. FUN!!
    Writing Style
Please follow the academic writing standards we’ve been working on all semester.
When writing about the research, stay clearly focused on the findings and meaning of that research, and do not go into irrelevant details, such as how many people were in the study, or where it was done, unless it’s an important factor. This paper must clearly focus on facts and research only. Always remember to cite exactly where all facts and claims come from, even when those claims are vague or in your own words. Always use an appropriate professional tone in writing any formal research paper like this. Do not use the words I, we, you, our, my, or us – this is an informal reflective writing style that is not appropriate for this formal assignment. For example, instead of saying “I will present research on the topic of..” write “Research has found that..” Instead of writing “you can see how important this is..” write “the importance of this research is clear.” With a professional tone “I” and “you” are invisible and the research and facts are the focus. For this paper everything you write must be entirely in your own words. You can only use 1-2 direct quotations for the entire paper.
All information must be properly paraphrased/summarized (putting it in your own words) and also properly cited in APA format. Remember! Simply changing around a couple words or swapping out one or two out isn’t OKAY. That is NOT putting the information in your own words. APA formatting is also required and a big part of the overall grade.
