Research Paper Submission: Students are required to complete one research paper.  The topic for the research paper must be approved in advance by the instructor. In each module, you will find chapter research exercises associated with your textbook. With prior approval by the instructor, you may choose to develop your research paper by responding to one of these research exercises. You may also choose to identify your own topic. Either way, it is imperative to communicate with the instructor about your research report. Please make sure you choose your topic early. 
Please write your research paper using Microsoft Word. Your documentation in your reports should be referenced. Please use the American Psychological Association style writing format for referencing your sources. Reference Librarians at each campus of the college can also help you with this. Instructions
Choose one of the categories of psychological disorders from the topics in Modules 2-4, preferably the one that you plan to examine in your Signature Assignment. Remember, these topics include anxiety and mood disorders, substance abuse, personality disorders, schizophrenia, and sexual dysfunction and somatic symptom and related disorders. Then, conduct research to select an adult diagnostic category.
Prepare an annotated bibliography of articles related to the diagnosis category you select. Include at least 6-8 research articles published in peer-reviewed journals in the past five years. Your annotation of each article should include the hypothesis, methods, instruments, findings, author-identified study weaknesses, and the authors’ identified calls for additional research. Be sure to include at least one article based on diversity issues related to your selection.
Length: minimum of 6 article annotations (approximately 1/2 to 1-page each), not including title and reference pages

Research Scenario 1
A researcher is interested in the effects of a new weight loss supplement. Participants in this double-blind study are randomly assigned to either a group that receives the new supplement or a group that receives a placebo. Participants are weighed before starting the program. After 6 weeks of taking either the new supplement or the placebo, participants return to the lab to be weighed.
Provide the appropriate null and alternative hypotheses.
Determine which type of analysis would be appropriate to answer this research question. Be specific and support your answer using the textbook or other course materials.
Name the independent and dependent variables used in the analysis. What are the levels of the independent variable?

Research Scenario 2
A researcher is interested in whether certain memory strategies help people to remember information. This researcher employs students from a local college, and then randomly assigns them to one of three groups—the visualization group, the mnemonic technique group, and the rote repetition group. Participants in each group receive an hour of instruction regarding how to use the particular technique to remember lists of words. After the instruction, all participants are presented with a list of 60 words that they are instructed to remember. The words are presented one-at-a time on a computer screen. After the last word is presented, all participants are instructed to recall as many words as possible by writing them on a blank sheet of paper. All participants are given 10 minutes to recall the words.

A local manufacturing company is interested in determining whether their employees are as happy with their jobs as other employees. The manufacturing company asked the workers, who volunteered to participate, to rate their happiness at work on a scale from 1 to 10 where 1 was not at all happy and 10 was extremely happy. The manufacturing company found that the mean happiness rating for their employees is 7.3. In the general population of workers in the United States, the mean happiness rating is 6.

Evaluate the MMP1-3 Police Candidate Interpretive Reports for Mr. E Download Mr. E. and Ms. F Download Ms. F. For this discussion, you will take on the role of an industrial-organizational psychologist recently awarded a contract to evaluate potential police candidates. The purpose of the evaluations is to determine the psychological capability of the applicants to be certified as police officers in your state. The applicants you are examining are applying for certification and will be vested with a position of public trust. If certified as police officers, the individuals will likely be required at some future time to exercise significant physical strength and undergo high emotional stress. As the examining psychologist, you are required to comment on the applicants’ social comprehension, judgment, impulse control, potential for violence, and/or any psychological traits that might render her or him psychologically at risk to be certified. The state requires that each applicant’s examination include the following elements:
Interview and History: The psychologist must personally interview the applicant and provide a summary of the applicant’s personal, educational, employment, and criminal history.
Required Personality Test: The applicant shall be administered any current standard form of the Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory-3 (MMPI-3) by the licensed psychologist who interviewed the individual, or by a paraprofessional employed by and under the direct control and supervision of that licensed psychologist.

Note: It is common for there to be a delay between the time a test publisher updates a test and the time the textbook and other authors can update their information about the new version of the test.
