Students will select one psychological disorder described in their readings from the course textbook, Psychopathology: Foundations for a Contemporary Understanding, 4th edition (Maddux & Winstead, 2016). CHAPTER IS PROVIDED, PLEASE CHOOSE A TOPIC FROM CHAPTER 17 WHICH IS PROVIDED IN THE ATTACHMENTS. Essay must address the following points:
Thoroughly describe the disorder in terms of symptom presentation and DSM-5 diagnostic criteria.
Discuss treatment options for this disorder, being sure to outline both pharmacological and psychotherapy-based options.
Select at least one peer-reviewed scholarly journal article from the APUS Library related to your selected diagnosis. Summarize the article and discuss how it relates to your selected diagnosis.
The required minimum length of this paper is 8 pages, in addition to a required cover page and a reference list. Papers must comply with APA formatting rules, including font size and margins, and must have a scholarly focus and tone. Quoting published material and use of the first-person “I” are not permitted and will result in a point loss. All source material must be paraphrased into your own words and cited appropriately.

General Rules 
1. Because I want you all to see what’s currently being studied in the field of social
psychology, the majority of your sources should come from the past 10 years. 
2. Your topic must be specific to social psychology. Make sure you’re using some term or
theory from the text, the PPT slides (IT’s or my supplemental ones), or as I discuss in the
Tech Live sessions. 
3. Almost all of your sources must be scholarly peer-reviewed journal articles. 
Use
McMillen Library’s databases.
To use these databases, follow these steps: 
1. Go to McMillen Library 
2. Select “Find Databases by Subject” 
3. Select “Psychology”
4. I recommend Using Psychology & Behavioral Sciences Collection (EBSCO), APA
PsycArticles, or Psychology Database (ProQuest). 
5. Always use “Advanced” search on the databases. 
6. Limit your searches by
a. The date ranges to your search to 2014 to 2024
b. English language
c. Peer-reviewed journal articles (NO dissertations)
d. And in APA PsycArticles, you may also limit your search by age groups (if your
topic is adolescents, for example), and by type of article (if you want to look only
standalone literature reviews, or if you want to find the latest empirical study).
Be sure to review the Psychology-related databases to see if there is the right number of articles
for your topic. Consider that only 40% of the articles you find may be helpful, so try to
overestimate the number of articles you may need. 
If you find 15, that’s too few. If you find 200,
that’s too many 🙂

My hypothesis would be – Interpersonal contact is the most effective type of interaction for reducing prejudice.

Case File: Ryan Thompson
Ryan Thompson, an 18-year-old Caucasian male, is a high school senior attending Richlands High School in a rural neighborhood. He lives with his parents and two younger siblings. Ryan exhibits symptoms indicative of suicidal ideation and depression. Over the past several months, Ryan has experienced overwhelming feelings of sadness, hopelessness, and despair, which have significantly impacted his daily functioning. He struggles to find pleasure in activities he once enjoyed and often withdraws from social interactions with friends and family. Ryan has been experiencing frequent thoughts of death and dying, expressing feelings of worthlessness and a belief that his loved ones would be better off without him. He has also engaged in self-harming behaviors, such as cutting, as a means of coping with emotional pain. Ryan’s academic performance has declined, and he has missed several days of school due to his emotional distress. Despite his parents’ attempts to provide support, Ryan feels increasingly isolated and disconnected from others. He has not disclosed his suicidal thoughts to anyone out of fear of burdening his family and friends. However, his symptoms continue to escalate, prompting concerns about his safety and well-being. Intervention and support are urgently needed to address Ryan’s suicidal ideation and provide him with the necessary resources to cope with his mental health struggles.

Mood Disorder Brochure
Objective: Students are to create a 3 page informational brochure on mood disorders.
Directions: Read chapter 7 on mood disorders in your textbook. Once you have read the chapter and have an understanding of the major mood disorders, type up a 3 page informational brochure designed to inform people about the symptoms, risk factors and treatment of Depression and Bipolar Disorder. 
Requirements:
1.DO NOT simply write the definitions of terms in the pamphlet. Remember you are designing a helpful tool for creating awareness and understanding of mood disorders based on the knowledge that you have gained from reading chapter 7. Think about pamphlets that you have seen in doctors’ offices or in counseling centers.

Effects of Breaking a Social Norm Give some thought to the social norms influencing your current behavior. Identify one that you will break. Be sure that you do not pick one that will cause harm to you or someone else and DO NOT break any laws. Let me repeat that, “DO NOT PUT YOURSELF OR ANYONE AT DANGER AND DO NOT BREAK LAWS.” Some examples of social norms that students have violated are sitting with strangers at the same table at the food court in the mall, men wearing lipstick and nail polish, singing happy birthday in the elevator, etc. After you have decided what social norm you will break, pick a couple of situations which you will break this norm. These should be situations where other people will witness your behavior. The kind of situations you pick will depend on the norms you choose. Pay attention to your feelings and reactions just prior to breaking the norm, how you feel while you are breaking the norm, and also after you are done. Pay attention to the reactions of other people around you as you are breaking the norm. Some students have found this easier to do if they have a friend with them who knows what is going on as they break the norm. What social norm did you decide to violate? Why did you pick this norm?
Describe how you felt just before you broke the social norm, during and after violating the norm. Did you bring a friend with you? If so, how did affect your reactions to breaking the social norm?
What were the reactions of people around you?
What did you learn from this project about social norms?
