  • “The Importance of Home Environment Affordances in Promoting Motor Development and Sensory Processing Skills in Premature Infants: A White Paper for Parents and Caregivers”

our groups main topic is birth- 1 year/prenatal… attached was my presentation with the references that should be used in the paper as well but this is my main article …….
Zorlular, R., Akkaya, K. U., & Elbasan, B. (2024). The relationship between home environment affordances and motor development and sensory processing skills in premature infants. Infant behavior & development, 75, 101944. Advance online publication. https://doi.org/10.1016/j.infbeh.2024.101944 Major Project White Paper
For your final assignment, you will write a white paper. A white paper is an official report about a complicated issue, but presents the issue in a way that the reader will understand. For example, you could write a white paper that is geared towards parents on baby sleeping positions (e.g., “back is best”), or a paper that is geared towards parents of teenagers to reduce the likelihood of teenage pregnancy, or how grandparents can help their children with their grandchildren. The topics are endless, but the project will include peer-reviewed empirical journal articles as references and the paper must be written for a general audience. In other words, this is not a paper that would be submitted to a journal. This paper will be submitted a week after the oral presentation so that you can focus on revising your paper after the completion of your presentation. I have provided many resources in the “writing toolbox” in Canvas to help you. This is an individual paper. You can use your group as support on finding sources etc., but each student must write their own paper.
Papers should be 9-12 pages, including the title page, at least 7 full pages of body, and references (no abstract is needed). Please review your TurnItIn score after submitting your paper. Papers with a high TurnItIn score with problematic paraphrasing may be sent to the Academic Misconduct Committee. You are welcome to submit your paper early, review your TurnItIn feedback, and resubmit your paper before the deadline. Please review the module titled, “Technology Support: Panopto, Perusall, & TurnItIn” for more information. Your paper must include a minimum of 10 peer-reviewed sources. If you choose to include other references that are not peer-reviewed e.g., interviews), you should count those as extra, but you should minimize your use of anything not peer-reviewed. The heart of the paper needs to be 10 scientific, peer-reviewed sources. Psychology Today is not acceptable. I strongly encourage you to work with our super-skilled librarians in helping you track down the most appropriate references. You are likely to read many references that will not end up in your paper. Typically students have to read three times as many references (30) to find the ten that best support the argument they are making. (You’ll find it much harder to write the paper if you merely go after ten sources and try to construct an argument from that minimum number; the more you read, the easier the argument will be to develop).
Consider headings that will help you organize your argument properly. In a 7 page paper, probably you would have no more than four headings, but when in doubt, ask.
Science writing is a skill that can be mastered. It is characterized by precision, objectivity, and accuracy. Use the fewest words possible to communicate your meaning. Don’t use exclamation marks or emotive words. Be sure your descriptions of psychology concepts are accurate. Use quotes sparingly and reserve them for beautiful writing that would be hard to paraphrase.

  • Title: The Power of Persuasion: Understanding the Purpose and Theoretical Basis of Television Commercials and Strategies for Avoiding Unwanted Persuasion

Please use the reference that has been uploaded in the files. I attached a word document that includes all of this week’s textbook information. You will need to reference some of this information in the below order:
Can someone convince you to buy a new product within 30–60 seconds? Well, that seems to be the goal of average television commercials. You tend to spend a major part of your television viewing time in watching info-commercials that sometimes go on for more than half an hour. There are times when persuasion is unwanted or is detrimental to an individual such as purchasing sea monkeys that turn out to be just brine shrimp or buying a book that portends a cure for every ailment.
What is the purpose behind commercials that use television as a medium? Provide a rationale for your answer. Based on your course readings and understanding of persuasion, what is the theoretical basis of these commercials? Support your answer with relevant examples.
In your opinion, can individuals avoid or overcome unwanted persuasions? How? If you were asked to design a training seminar to teach individuals how to avoid unwanted persuasion, what details would you take into consideration and why?
Justify your answers with appropriate reasoning and research from your text and course readings.

  • Title: Nurturing Thinking Skills in 10-13 Year Old Children: Strategies for Parents and Teachers

According to the text, there are three important characteristics of thinking: executive function, critical thinking, and creative thinking. Choose one and describe how a parent or teacher could foster either executive function, critical thinking, or creative thinking in 10–13-year-old children. Provide at least two unique activities to support this type of thinking.

  • Title: Understanding Behaviors: The Purpose and Implications of Descriptive Analysis in a School Setting

Descriptive Analysis is intended to help us determine why a behavior occurs rather than how often a behavior occurs. In what situation would you elect to do a descriptive analysis and why or what are the pros and cons of descriptive analysis especially in a school / classroom setting.

  • “The Bystander Effect in Breaking Bad: Analyzing Walter White’s Actions”

You will be asked to select a concept and apply it to a recent TV
show/movie/song/etc that you have seen or heard. Please provide a brief summary of the popular media that you
chose (summarize the movie, episode, verse, etc.), as well as a definition of
the concept you are using, and lastly, an application section where you
thoroughly apply the concept and explain how it fits into the selected media.
Submissions should follow APA guidelines (12pt Times New Roman font,
double-spaced) and be approximately 3 pages in length (excluding title page
and references). All submissions must be written in your own words (without
the use of AI or direct quotes) and include appropriate references of the
concepts and the media selected (websites are not appropriate).
    topics such as the
bystander effect, social loafing, group polarization/group think,
self-regulation, ego-depletion, learned helplessness, fundamental attribution
error, implicit/explicit biases, and conformity are excellent choices for this assignment.
Optional: The shows I would like to be written on would be “House of Cards” by Netflix discussing the protagonist Francis Underwood, or Breaking Bad discussing Walter White. You may select either of these.
Additional instructions are included in the attachment below.

Remember Part 1 of the Scientific Literacy Track? We talked about CRAAP testing. As you move forward in your education, you will likely be expected to use more primary sources (often research studies) in your work.  However, it would not be efficient to always search through the bodies of research to obtain information on a topic.  Therefore, we need to explore how we can better choose sources that provide accurate, useful information.
You can also check out this website for a quick refresher:
    https://researchguides.ben.edu/source-evaluation
** For psychology, the guideline is to have sources that have been published (or updated) within last 5-7 years.

  • “Exploring Adolescent Development: A Case Study of Identity Challenges and Interventions” Case Study: “Navigating Identity Challenges in Adolescence: A Multidisciplinary Approach to Developmental Interventions” The Adolescent and their Strengths and Challenges

Create a simulated case study, relevant to your area of specialization, of an adolescent who presents developmental challenges related to Erikson’s age- or stage-related milestones expected at their age.  Should have these:The adolescent and their strengths and challenges, A challenge for the adolescent in terms of identity and self-concept ,The medical, family, and social context, The developmental challenges that were evident in the behavior of the adolescent,Evidence in the case that the adolescent struggles by not meeting the expected milestones of Erikson’s theory of adolescent development,Individual and cultural factors that theory and/or research indicate could impact the adolescent’s development,Any other factors you deem appropriate based on your understanding of the theory and related research. To develop this case, you should: Explore theory and research related to development linked to adolescence,Utilize current research on adolescent brain development to describe potential outcomes linked to brain development at this age, including important considerations in the case you are developing,Develop your case study further by creating an environmental context for the adolescent. Include any specific issues that you want to explore through research, such as influences of a specific culture or ethnicity or specific socioeconomic status.
Research evidence-based interventions that have been effective in meeting the challenges of the adolescent you described in your case study, from the perspective of your own professional specialization (as far as possible).
Explain how the deficits in the social-emotional developmental domain impact development.
Explain how the environmental contexts impact development.
State the recommended interventions that align with your specialization.
Include evidence for those recommendations and outcomes from the professional literature.
Explore briefly the literature on adult identity and self-concept, considering that early influences can impact development across the lifespan.
Explain, from the perspective of your specialization, how the identity issues (for example, Erikson’s theoretical perspective) that emerged in adolescence could be manifested in adulthood.
Explain how this might help in understanding and determining an approach to working with an adult with a history of identity issues.

  • “Stepping into Their Shoes: A Reflection on Living with a Disability”

Short Paper and 20 min Presentation
Each student will select a disability that they have no first-hand experience with. Your job is to “live” with that disability as much as possible for 1 week. By that I mean, spend time reflecting on how your everyday experience would be different if you had that disability. For example, at the end of each day, write down what you did. How would that activity have gone differently if you were disabled? What aspects did you take for granted that someone with a disability might not be able to? Would you have needed support to achieve everything you did? What supports would you have needed, and are those things that are accessible to you? If you’re able, you may also want to follow disabled individuals on social media to gain a better understanding of what navigating daily life is like for them, and so that you’re able to see the breadth and heterogeneity within the group of “disability.”
At the end of the week, you should write a short paper (4-5 pages double spaced) that provides a brief background of the disability you focused on including its prevalence, symptoms, challenges faced by those with the disability as well as your own personal reflections on how your life would be different if you were living with the disability. You will present what you learn in an ~20 minute class presentation.
