1.3 Purpose of the Study and Research Questions
Clearly state the aim of your thesis: To explore how workplace flexibility and work-life balance affect employee well-being in the FinTech sector.
Present the main research questions you intend to answer through your study. Use the helpful words to connect concepts from your title: (e.g. what are the factors influencing…, or that is the impact of … to …, or what is the relationship between …)
1.4 Definitions of Terms
Define key terms such as ‘workplace flexibility,’ ‘work-life balance,’ and ‘employee well-being’ to ensure clarity.

GUIDELINES for a PRESENTATION
PURPOSE: There are 2 objectives for this Presentation:
1) to share with class your own opinions, ideas and perspectives on humor and comedy
2) to demonstrate what you learned in this course by incorporating 2 concepts in an
insightful way.
HOW TO DO IT:
Suggestion: Think about an example from today’s culture (or from the past) that is of interest and
inspiration to you. Choosing your topic will require some creativity on your part.
**If you are at a loss for a topic, ask yourself: Who is my favorite comedian and why? What
kind of humor do I like? What are my favorite shows? Then think of a topic about them.
In the past students have presented on topics like: internet/meme humor; cancel culture; women
in standup; ethnic/cultural humor; comedy in today’s society; comedian’s creativity; self-
deprecating humor; wit; dark humor; political humor; comedy and freedom of speech. **NOTE
that physiology/chemistry of laughter will not be permitted as topics for this project.
Suggestion only: You can make this project a comparative study of 2 different comedians or
kinds of comedy. It can be a comparison of various humor forms (irony vs. sarcasm; absurd vs.
dark humor); or particular topics in comedy (male vs. female comedy; slapstick vs. wit). They
have to be discussed in an insightful way.
Your goal: With the help of your example(s) from the media, to come up with an argument or an
observation or an opinion that has not been expressed in class and you think should be discussed.
You want to discuss comedy in an intelligent and analytical way, rather than just state that
something is hilarious or not.
REQUIREMENTS:
1) State your ARGUMENT on the 1st slide (*what’s the difference between an opinion and
an argument?)
2) Find specific examples: at least 3-4 short videos to discuss and compare; they should be
chosen as to allow you to build your discussion and arguments on
3) Make 2 references to concepts or ideas from the articles by Critchley and Freud. For
example: the element of surprise in humor; incongruency; “true comedian’s” joke; sense
and non-sense in jokes; whatever appeals to you. Do NOT make references to the stories.

Purpose of Assignment: To identify individual bias(es) through self-reflection through a hypothetical scenario.
Instructions: For your Course Project, you are a Human Services Professional at the hypothetical agency, New Directions, LLC. In Module 01, you are beginning the first step towards developing a portfolio that will be submitted to Dr. Rasmussen, your immediate supervisor, before your performance evaluation in six weeks. Thank you for accepting the invitation to our weekly supervision meetings that will be having for the next several weeks. So, our agenda for this first week is to focus on bias. To confront the challenge of personal bias (myself included), Human Services Professionals must actively work to identify, be mindful of, and critically examine the personal biases they bring into practice. We all have them! Once identified, personal biases can then be attended to through education, continuous training throughout one’s career, self-reflection, and supervision. CASE STUDY-
Sid is 78 years old, he is a retired Doctor and has 3 children Sally, Laura and James who are all professionals. Sid is married to Anna who is now living in a care home. Sid is a regular visitor visiting his wife daily at 1pm. This is just after Anna has had her lunch. Sid and Anna’s children are very devoted to their parents however; they are not able to visit often due to their own personal and professional commitments and this really upsets Sid.
The staff at the care home who look after Anna have noticed recently that Sid who has visited at 1pm every day for 3 years is missing days or arriving later or earlier. Sid always made it 1pm as he believed that Anna who has dementia might relate the time of day to his visit. Sid wears dentures and the staff have noticed when he speaks that the dentures are loose which makes them think he has lost a considerable amount of weight. The staff decided to have a chat with one of Sid’s daughters (Sally). Sid’s daughter Sally made a point of visiting her dad the same evening and was distressed to find that the house was unclean, untidy and had offensive odour. This was in direct contrast to how Sid would normally keep his home. There was post un-opened for months and bills unpaid. The food in the fridge was out of date and there was no evidence of food having been made that day. Very worryingly, there was soap powder in the sugar jar. Sid told his daughter he had just had toast and tea but there was no bread and the kettle was cold. A neighbour stopped her on the way in to say that Sid was mowing the lawn during the night wearing just shorts and a top with bare feet. Sid’s daughter decided to ask her manager for some leave to move in to her Dad’s house to see just how he was or was not coping. It became clear that Sid was now not meeting friends at the running track or at the curling club he had attended for 33 years. Sid had always been a gentle man of soft nature but now Sally was noticing he was angry and frustrated and at times appeared to repeat himself and stutter his words. Sally was able to take leave for several months from work but was finding the change in how her dad treated her very difficult to cope with and as he appeared to be turning night into day.
Sid’s daughter was exhausted and found that she was now snapping at her dad. Sid did not appear to be meeting his basic needs and refused to discuss his difficulties with his daughter or with the GP. Sid’s daughter started to look for some support in her local area after the GP suggested that following a check-up and normal blood results it might be that Sid too had dementia.

Identify the strategies and skills required to meet the needs of people with dementia and explain the ways to assist the carer in coping with the stresses associated with caring for people with dementia.
• From the case study, identify the effects of dementia on the basic physical, social, emotional and intellectual needs of Sid (2 examples for each need).
• Identify two behaviours displayed by Sid in the case study and discuss strategies that could be used to support Sid and lessen his distress.
• Discuss two routines or tasks such as banking and bills, safety in the home and coping with hazards outside and apply strategies that would support individuals from the case study in continuing with a routine and structure to their day.
• Explain three qualities, which are necessary in the care of individuals living with dementia. • Discuss the important role observation and communication have, for carers when caring for individuals living with dementia. • Describe two difficulties faced by Sally in the case study in caring for her father, explain why these may have come about. Discuss some coping strategies to minimise the stress on Sally as a carer for her father.
• Identify one statutory organisation and one voluntary organisation and show how they support carers such as Sally cope with the difficulties they may experience while caring for someone who has dementia

Since the inception of public health programs, vital statistics have been a critical factor in the effort to improve sanitation and to control disease.
