He was evaluated by cardiology and underwent a successful and uneventful angioplasty prior to discharge. Despite the intervention, the shortness of breath has not improved. Since starting cardiac rehabilitation, he feels that his breathlessness is worse. The cardiologist has requested that you, his primary care provider, evaluate him for further work-up. Prior to today, his last visit with your practice was 3 years ago when he was seen for acute bronchitis and smoking cessation counseling.

Applying Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs Theory in Nursing Practice: A Clinic Nurse’s Perspective
Use at least three of these prompts:
How is your peer’s choice of nursing theory different from yours (operationg room nurse) , discuss the differences.
Share your thoughts on how they could apply their chosen nursing theory in the practice setting.
Present new references that support your opinions.
DOI reference link
Please be sure to validate your opinions and ideas with citations and references in APA format.
PLEASE RESPOND TO THE FOLLOWING POST:
Identify one specific nursing theory that relates to your area of practice.
Multiple theories can impact the practice of nurses in every specialty and role. Though many theorists have impacted my practice as a clinic nurse, I have chosen to discuss Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs.
Discuss the type of the selected nursing theory according to scope (meta-theory, grand, middle-range, or practice theory) and purpose (descriptive, explanatory, predictive, or prescriptive).
Maslow’s needs theory is likely most often considered a middle-range theory. The model is specified in this way because it encompasses a broad theoretical view of the concepts but can also be applied to more narrow topics, even as narrow as specific patients and their needs. Though Maslow’s hierarchical theory was created with a psychological perspective in mind, it applies equally to nursing practice.
Provide an example of how the selected nursing theory can be applied to your area of practice. The example should include core concepts of the theory and demonstrate its practical application.
Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs theory defines the order in which a patient’s needs must be addressed. The pyramid-shaped image often shown to explain the theory shows the building blocks of human needs, starting at the most concrete need for survival and progressing upward toward the more abstract concepts of self-esteem and self-actualization. This pyramid model provides a visual aid to understand the theory’s concept of the need to meet human needs in a specific order.
In my clinic setting, I use Maslow’s theory daily. Patients who come to be seen by our physician typically present with a physiological need. In our case as an orthopedic service, most of these needs are bone fractures or other musculoskeletal issues. We must first treat this physical ailment by attending to the physiological needs. However, after we have addressed this issue, we must remember to take into account the higher pyramid categories. Patients often face abstract psychological burdens along with their physical injuries. We must take the time to address these needs once the initial safety needs have been met.
Though the above example shows how Maslow’s theory affects patient care, the model can be applied in my practice in other ways. Catalina et al. (2020) published an article about the needs theory’s impact on healthcare workers’ satisfaction and performance, stating that meeting employees’ needs by following Maslow’s model can lead to improved performance and a higher quality of provided health services. As a nurse leader or manager, my role would be to not only address my patients’ needs but also to meet my team members’ needs accordingly so that the highest quality of care is delivered.

“Implementing and Evaluating a Health Promotion Plan: A Hypothetical Face-to-Face Educational Session” “Improving Health Education for Future Outcomes: Aligning with Healthy People 2030 Objectives and Leading Health Indicators” Title: “Evaluating and Revising Future Educational Sessions to Align with Healthy People 2030 Objectives”
Build a slide presentation (PowerPoint preferred) of the
hypothetical health promotion plan you developed in the first assessment
(please see the attached paper). Then, implement your health promotion plan by
conducting a hypothetical face-to-face educational session addressing the
health concerns and health goals of your selected group. How would you set
goals for the session(Use the SMART method), evaluate session outcomes, and
suggest possible revisions to improve future sessions?
Introduction:
This assessment provides an opportunity for you to apply
teaching and learning concepts to the presentation of a health promotion plan.
Note: This is the second part of a two-part assessment. You
must complete Assessment 1 before completing this assessment.
For
this assessment, you will conclude the clinical learning activity you began in
Assessment 1 (see the attached paper).
You
will resume the role of a community nurse tasked with addressing the specific
health concern in your community. This time, you will present, via educational
outreach, the hypothetical health promotion plan you developed in Assessment 1
to your fictitious audience. In this hypothetical scenario, you will simulate
the presentation as though it would be live and face-to-face. You must
determine an effective teaching strategy, communicate the plan with
professionalism and cultural sensitivity, evaluate the objectives of the plan,
revise the plan as applicable, and propose improvement for future educational
sessions. To engage your audience, you decide to develop a PowerPoint
presentation with voice-over and speaker notes to communicate your plan.
Instruction:
Complete the following:
·
Prepare a 10–12 slide
PowerPoint presentation with detailed speaker notes that reflects your
hypothetical presentation. This presentation is the implementation of the plan
you created in Assessment 1. The speaker notes should be well organized. Be
sure to include a transcript. The transcript can be submitted on a separate
Word document.
·
Simulate the
hypothetical face-to-face educational session addressing the health concern (Obesity)
and health goals of your selected community individual or group.
·
Imagine collaborating
with the hypothetical participant(s) in setting goals for the session,
evaluating session outcomes, and suggesting possible revisions to improve
future sessions.
Presentation Format and Length
You may use Microsoft PowerPoint (preferred) or other
suitable presentation software to create your presentation. If you elect to use
an application other than PowerPoint, check with your faculty to avoid
potential file compatibility issues.
The number of content slides in your presentation is
dictated by the nature and scope of your health promotion plan. Be sure to
include title and references slides per the following:
·
Title slide:
o

title.
o
Your name.
o
Date.
o

Context:
Health education is any combination of learning experiences designed
to help community individuals, families, and aggregates improve their health by
increasing knowledge or influencing attitudes (WHO, n.d.). Education is key to
health promotion, disease prevention, and disaster preparedness. The health
indicator framework identified in Healthy People 2030 prompts action in health
services accessibility, clinical preventive services, environmental quality,
injury or violence prevention, maternal, infant, and child health, mental
health, nutrition, substance abuse prevention, and tobacco use cessation or
prevention.
Nurses provide accurate evidence-based information and
education in formal and informal settings. They draw upon evidence-based
practice to provide health promotion and disease prevention activities to
create social and physical environments conducive to improving and maintaining
community health. When provided with the tools to be successful, people
demonstrate lifestyle changes (self-care) that promote health and help reduce
readmissions. They are better able to tolerate stressors, including environmental
changes, and enjoy a better quality of life. In times of crisis, a resilient
community is a safer community (Flanders, 2018; Healthy People 2030, n.d.).
Competency Measure:
By successfully completing this assessment, you will
demonstrate your proficiency in the following course competencies and scoring
guide criteria:
·
Competency 3: Evaluate
health policies, based on their ability to achieve desired outcomes.
o
Evaluate educational
session outcomes in terms of progress made toward Healthy People 2030
objectives and leading health indicators.
·
Competency 4: Integrate
principles of social justice in community health interventions.
o
Evaluate educational
session outcomes and the attainment of agreed-upon health goals in
collaboration with hypothetical participants.
·
Competency 5: Apply
professional, scholarly communication strategies to lead health promotion and
improve population health.
o
Present a health
promotion plan to a hypothetical individual or a group within a community.
o
Organize content with
clear purpose/goals and with relevant and evidence-based sources (published
