Title: “Understanding Asthma: A Case Study Analysis and Discussion of Causes and Symptoms”
J.S. is a 42-year-old man who lives in the Midwest and is highly allergic to dust and pollen and has a history of mild asthma. J.S’s wife drove him to the emergency room when his wheezing was unresponsive to his fluticasone/salmeterol (Advair) inhaler. J.S. was unable to lie down, and began to use accessory muscles to breathe. J.S. is immediately started on 4 L oxygen by nasal cannula and intravenous (IV) D5W at 75 mL/hr. A set of arterial blood gases is sent to the laboratory. J.S. appears anxious and says that he is short of breath.
Vital signs
BP = 152/84 HR = 124 bpm RR = 42 Temp = 100.40F
ABGs
pH = 7.31 PaCO2 = 48 HCO3 = 26 PaO2 = 55
Investigate the condition of asthma and the manifestations of the disease. Analyze the case study provided and determine what symptoms support the diagnosis of asthma.
Do you have any concerns with the numbers above?
Identify what may be causing J.S. to have an exacerbation of asthma.
Prepare a 3-5 page paper outlining the causes of asthma and the symptoms that the client presents. Use at least one scholarly source to support your findings. Examples of scholarly sources include academic journals, textbooks, reference texts, and CINAHL nursing guides. Be sure to cite your sources in-text and on a References page using APA format. -
“Exploring Telehealth: An Infographic on the What, Why, When, and How”
Assignment Prompt
Infographics are visual representations of information. They can include numbers, text, images, or any combination of the three. Just as in traditional writing assignments, an infographic can take on any of the various rhetorical modes – informative, instructive, descriptive, persuasive, etc. Infographics provide a quick way to convey a lot of information. For example, this infographic on Integrating Virtual Clinics conveys interesting date much more concisely than another paragraph inserted here could have:
Students will create an Infographic on the topic of Telehealth. Students should create an infographic that is easily understood by the lay public or general population. The infographic should provide information useful to communicating the “What, Why, When and How” of telehealth. Students may choose to focus on one of more of the following suggested topic areas. However, students may choose their own relevant telehealth topic area):
Telehealth Versus Telemedicine
Environments of Systems
Health Promotion and Illness Prevention
Integrative Health
Technologies and Innovation
Provider Access
Patient Access
Policy Implications
Legal Implications
Clinical Practice Issues
Education/Training Needs
Research Implications
Quality of Care
Outcome Management
Directions:
Students will select a platform (tool) for building their infographic. There are a number of great infographic platforms available online. Many are free, but most require that you do set up an account. Check out Infogram, easelly, Piktochart, VISME.
Create the Infographic using one of the above platforms.

“Improving Youth Mental and Maternal Health Care: Insights from Governor Murphy and Others”
This assignment is for my public policy nursing class for my master’s. I had to pick a meeting to “attend and chose this one in week one. I will attach what I wrote for my discussion and the link to the video
Governor Murphy and Others on Youth Mental and Maternal Health Care
This meeting took place on October 27, 2023, in New Jersey and it discussed the maternal health care and mental health with the youth and how these areas are affected and can be improved. Such as creating the youth mental health initiative, since studies showed that suicide rates have skyrocketed over 20% from the previous year and were to include community aid, such as providing pediatric psychologists. As well as caring for maternal and infant health, the initiative covers the well-being of these groups of individuals not only physically and mentally but spiritually and socially. Educating them on access to health care.

Assignment Title: Case Studies in Pulmonary Function and Fluid, Electrolyte, and Acid-Base Homeostasis
Pulmonary Function:
D.R. is a 27-year-old man, who presents to the nurse practitioner at the Family Care Clinic complaining of increasing SOB, wheezing, fatigue, cough, stuffy nose, watery eyes, and postnasal drainage—all of which began four days ago. Three days ago, he began monitoring his peak flow rates several times a day. His peak flow rates have ranged from 65-70% of his regular baseline with nighttime symptoms for 3 nights on the last week and often have been at the lower limit of that range in the morning. Three days ago, he also began to self-treat with frequent albuterol nebulizer therapy. He reports that usually his albuterol inhaler provides him with relief from his asthma symptoms, but this is no longer enough treatment for this asthmatic episode.
Case Study Questions
According to the case study information, how would you classify the severity of D.R. asthma attack?
Name the most common triggers for asthma in any given patients and specify in your answer which ones you consider applied to D.R. on the case study.
Based on your knowledge and your research, please explain the factors that might be the etiology of D.R. being an asthmatic patient.
Fluid, Electrolyte and Acid-Base Homeostasis:
Ms. Brown is a 70-year-old woman with type 2 diabetes mellitus who has been too ill to get out of bed for 2 days. She has had a severe cough and has been unable to eat or drink during this time. On admission, her laboratory values show the following:
Serum glucose 412 mg/dL
Serum sodium (Na+) 156 mEq/L
Serum potassium (K+) 5.6 mEq/L
Serum chloride (Cl–) 115 mEq/L
Arterial blood gases (ABGs): pH 7.30; PaCO2 32 mmHg; PaO2 70 mmHg; HCO3– 20 mEq/L
Case Study Questions
Based on Ms. Brown admission’s laboratory values, could you determine what type of water and electrolyte imbalance does she has?
Describe the signs and symptoms to the different types of water imbalance and described clinical manifestation she might exhibit with the potassium level she has.
In the specific case presented which would be the most appropriate treatment for Ms. Brown and why?
What the ABGs from Ms. Brown indicate regarding her acid-base imbalance?
Based on your readings and your research define and describe Anion Gaps and its clinical significance.
Submission Instructions:
You must complete both case studies
Your initial post should be at least 500 words in total, (250 words per case study), formatted and cited in current APA style with support from a minimum of 2 academic sources PER CASE STUDY that are no older than 5 years old. Your initial post is worth 8 points.
You should respond to at least two of your peers by extending, refuting/correcting, or adding additional nuance to their posts. Your reply posts are worth 2 points (1 point per response.)
All replies must be constructive and use literature such as one intext citation from one scholarly source.
Please post your initial response by 11:59 PM ET Thursday, and comment on the posts of two classmates on separate days, starting on Friday to Sunday 11:59 PM ET.
