Did you find any that interest you, if so which one and why? Each week we will be discussing a different Heath topic, to hopefully help you decide and narrow down, what you would want to be. Make sure that you research the one that you are most interested in to make sure that you understand the job requirements for these positions.

You will use Excel to create a spreadsheet to organize, summarize, and calculate data for quality improvement.
Use “Homework B dataset Information” file attached. You can copy/paste the information to your file as appropriate.
The Homework B Information file contains survey questions 1-9 and their scores for each unit by quarter. Your goal is to identify areas for improvement before implementing strategies to increase patient satisfaction on each unit. Before you can analyze patterns in the data, you must put the data in a spreadsheet to organize and summarize the scores. The scores will be summarized by calculating the mean (aka. average) scores in each unit for each question, quarter, and overall.
Open Excel and use the dataset in the Homework B information file to create a new spreadsheet.  Units and their data are organized from left-to-right with the quarter data in rows and question data in columns
Unit, category, and question labels
In the first/leftmost column, enter the labels “Category”, “Quarters”, “Jan-Mar”, “Apr-Jun”, “Jul-Sep”, “Oct-Dec”, and “Mean” in the appropriate cells. 
In the first/top row, use the merge function to merge the cells for each unit and add the unit name from the Homework B Information file.
In the second row labeled “Category”, use the merge function to merge cells for each question category and label categories as: 
Questions 1-4 are labeled “Nurse Questions”
Questions 5-7 are labeled “Physician Questions”
Questions 8-9 are labeled “Environment Questions” 
For each category label, use the insert line break feature for each cell to add a second line in the cell so that the word “Questions” will appear on the second (bottom) line in the cell

Use the number rounding function to limit/round values to 1 place to the right of the decimal point (e.g., a value of 3.82 would be rounded to 3.8 in the cell)

Mean score calculations and labels
Quarter/row mean scores: Use the average formula function to calculate mean scores for each quarter/row means) in each unit. Each quarter mean will be to the right (rightmost column) of that unit’s data, and that column is labeled “Mean” for each unit. For each unit and quarter, nine (9) scores are used to calculate each quarter/row mean.
Question/column mean scores: Use the average formula function to calculate the means scores for each question (question/column means) in each unit. For each unit and question, four (4) scores are used to calculate each question/column mean.
Overall mean score: Use the average formula function to calculate the overall unit mean score for each unit. In each unit, the overall unit mean calculation includes the values for all individual questions in all quarters. The overall unit mean is placed in the bottom of the rightmost column of that unit’s data, and that column is labeled “Mean” for each unit. For each unit, all 36 scores are used to calculate the overall unit mean.
Use the number rounding function to limit/round values to 1 place to the right of the decimal point (e.g., a value of 3.82 would be rounded to 3.8 in the cell) for calculated mean scores. Do NOT manually round calculated average because doing so removes evidence of the formula function in the cell and results in point deductions for not using the formula and rounding functions as instructed.
Use the center function to center all calculated mean scores

Bold
Use the bold function to bold all labels in the top 3 rows (i.e., Unit, Category, Questions)
Use the bold function to bold all labels in the first/leftmost column
Use the bold function to bold all calculated mean scores (i.e., question/column means, quarter/row means, and overall/unit means) for each unit
Italics
Use the italics function to italicize the question category labels (i.e., Nurse Questions, Physician Questions, Environment Questions)

Use the border function to apply a single thin line to all inside borders of all cells

The health care sector alone is responsible for 8.5% of the country’s greenhouse gas emissions, so this is an appropriate topic – however, be certain that you are describing waste issues that contribute to green house emissions, specific affects to the population identified, and have have specific interventions to reduce these emissions. Similarly – your nursing actions need to be specific and actionable. (from professor)

State the topic of concern (i.e. air pollution); a brief reason why it is a problem; implications for public/population/community health; any policy issues
Summary of the relevant literature
This is important; the literature supports the seriousness of the topic; and provides evidence of the problem, impact, etc. Sources should be from peer-reviewed literature; try to limit website sources
Development and presentation of the argument
This is your position. For example, if my topic was contaminated water in Flint, Michigan; I might take the position that the Federal Government needs to provide more funds, oversight, etc. to remedy the situation.
Refutation of counterclaims 
Explain briefly, those who have a different perspective/opinion/position about the subject. In the example above, perhaps there are factions of the government that claim that the work is done and there is no need for additional intervention. After you provide two counterclaims, describe why you feel differently. In the case above, “new cases of lead poisoning are emerging since the end of the funding”, etc.
Nursing role in the promotion of the health of the affected population
Self-explanatory; Is it participating in screening? Education? Attending community meetings? Are there any nursing-related organizations that support your actions and/or this issue?
Summary of issue’s relevance to nursing and health
Why as a community of nursing/profession is the issue important? Think of our class, why are environmental issues important to nursing as a profession?
Writing style, use of APA 7th edition 
Self-explanatory
I’d like you all to take a look at and read the American Nurse’s Association’s (ANA) position paper on prevention and cessation of tobacco and other nicotine products.  
However, it struck me that it was a great model for you to use for your paper. While there is NO need to replicate the style, you can see as you read that the writers provided their position…the why. They gave background information. They provided recommendations, not only for policy makers but for nurses.
I hope that if you can find the time, access the ANA website, www.nursingworld.org and find the practice and advocacy section of the website. There’s great information, and I have to say, the content makes me proud to be a nurse!

CLINICAL
PRACTICE/ISSUE PAPER
Purpose: This project provides students with the
opportunity to conduct an analysis of a clinical practice issue that has been
observed in clinical preceptorship rotation and present recommendations for
change related to the practice issue.
Guidelines for the Assignment:
1.     Identify
a clinical issue that has been observed during your preceptorship rotation that
you would like to see changed. The practice issue may be one that you have
wondered about how the process came to be a part of nursing practice, whether
there is a better way of conducting something, a controversial policy/procedure
and or legislation, or something you have read about in the professional
journals.
2.     Provide
a clear description of the topic or issue and the history surrounding the topic
you have chosen.
3.     Conduct
a literature review concerning this topic. Clearly identify both sides of the
issue/topic. Describe the evidence that supports the current practice or
policy, as well as the practice change you may like to see, provide your
rationale for the change.
4.     Present
the analysis in a scholarly letter to the appropriate person/agency (2-3 pages
of content maximum with a reference page).
5.     You

As technologies and the health care industry continue to evolve, remote care, diagnosis, and collaboration are becoming increasingly more regular methods by which nurses are expected to work. Learning the ways in which evidence-based models and care can help remote work produce better outcomes will become critical for success. Additionally, understanding how to leverage EBP principles in collaboration will be important in the success of institutions delivering quality, safe, and cost-effective care. It could also lead to better job satisfaction for those engaging in remote collaboration.

ASSIGNMENT OVERVIEW
Select one health policy that addresses a population health risk or disparity. Policies to consider may be at the unit, organizational, community, local, or state level.
Determine the purpose and intended impact of the policy. Assess the congruence of the policy with current national population health goals and objectives (such as the Healthy People initiative, or another national initiative). Based upon your analysis, consider recommendations to further address the health risk or disparity, as well as interprofessional opportunities to enhance health outcomes.
In a 10-14 slide PowerPoint presentation, address the elements listed below:
1. Provide an introduction to the presentation.
2. Describe one health policy that relates to an identified health risk or disparity. Summarize the intended impact of the policy on the risk or disparity and discuss ethical implications regarding the policy.
3. Examine the policy within the context of a national population health initiative and determine the degree to which the policy is congruent with that national population health goal and/or objective. Explain your findings.
