  • Title: Interview with a Senior Healthcare Administrator: Developing and Utilizing Leadership Skills

    Overview
You will arrange to interview a senior-level healthcare administrator. The goal of the interview is to understand how the healthcare administrator develops and uses their leadership skills. You are encouraged to audiotape your interviews so that you can have a detailed record of the session. Please be sure to obtain permission for the recording. It is OK if the person does not allow it. Also, please understand that this project can provide you with access to senior executives that you would not normally be able to meet. Make your time with the executive count to showcase your strengths.
The final project should be typed and submitted by the due date. Please utilize a question and answer format using the questions provided. However, your assignment does not have to be limited to these questions. Feel free to add questions as the situation warrants.
    Interview Guidelines
Your interview should include but is not limited to the following questions:
    Describe your academic background.
    Describe your professional experience.
Is leadership an act, a process, or a skill?
What is your definition of leadership?
What are the top three qualities that a leader must possess to be successful?
How would you describe your leadership style?
How important is culture to your organization? Describe why.
How would you describe the culture of your organization?
Are you comfortable with this culture, or do you want it to change? If so, how?
How does your management team communicate with each other?
Decision-making is an important part of leadership. What steps do you take before you make a decision?
Have you ever had a personal value that conflicted with your organization? Please describe and explain how you handled it and why you handled it that way.
If you were to suddenly leave your organization, what would people say was your “legacy?”
    Assignment Guidelines
To present what you learned from your interview, you will write a paper utilizing a question and answer format to summarize the interviewee’s answer to each question. For example, you would have:
Question: What is the most challenging aspect of your job?
Answer: Provide a summary of the interview’s answer. You do not need to transcribe their exact response.
At the end of the interview summaries, write a reflection that makes connections between the responses and the concepts discussed in class.
Use double-spacing and 12 point font (Times New Roman) black ink, and include 1” margins on all sides.
Write a minimum of 4 pages.
Utilize the APA (7th ed.) format.

The critical appraisal is a formal writing assignment, and you are to submit a formal paper. It needs to both look and sound scholarly. You will need a title page and a reference page, but you do not need an abstract. Your paper will need an introductory paragraph (at least three sentences by definition), the body of the paper which is the appraisal part, and a conclusion (again, at least a three-sentence paragraph). Please note that the introduction should introduce the reader to your document and there should not be much information about the published article in the introduction.
You will use APA format for the title page, headings, citations (citing references in the text), quotations, references, page numbering, font, line spacing, margins, and other items.
You will need to elaborate on each section. Do not just say, “Yes, the title is a good one” or “No, the abstract does not summarize well.” Be specific and give examples as appropriate. It is fine to say that the article’s content does not meet expectations and should have included this, that, and the other. The appraisal needs to address both the strengths and weaknesses of the research report. If information is missing, then say so.
