Group activity – The Joint Commission (TJC)
This is a real life scenario: The Regulatory Compliance Department has been informed that your hospital is anticipating an unannounced visit from TJC within the next three months. It is unlikely, however it is possible, that visit could happen tomorrow. In response, a triage team has been assembled to immediately refresh their prior review of TJC top priorities and notify the stakeholder(s) and the operational teams in order to prepare for an unannounced visit. Logistics:
You have been randomly assigned to a group for this activity and it will be posted here as well as in an Announcement. The focus of your work will be TJC’s current top four priorities during hospital accreditation survey activity. Your group is assigned one of TJC’s four priorities (two groups for each priority). Each team has a leader; the only additional responsibility of the leader is to post the group response in the discussion forum. If you need to swap team leaders, you may do so. This week, you will conduct an issue review for your selected topic for your project. Present a brief report of your research on both sides of the issue. This should include the following:
Citation of your sources
Links to the sources where available
Brief description of the content of each of the sources (50 to 80 words for each source)
Your research review should address at least three (3) aspects of the issue that is the subject of your paper and must present at least one pro and one con article review on each aspect. Sources should be scholarly or of very high substantive quality.

Requiring that everyone have health insurance helped smooth out some demographic variations in the system.” Describe 1 advantage and 1 disadvantage of requiring everyone to have mandatory healthcare coverage. c) The Affordable Care Act Mandate of 2010 had an individual mandate similar to Massachusetts, but it is not enforced anymore and there is no financial penalty for not having health insurance. Module #3 (B) Discussion – False Claims Act – Outcomes for System, Providers and Patients

Overview
The False Claims Act of 1863 became commonly relevant to health care with the rise of government funded health care programs. The two major government programs Medicare and Medicaid came into existence in 1965. The False Claims Act is the major tool in the government’s toolbox to go after fraudsters preying on these and other government programs. In layman’s terms, the False Claims Act gives the government the right to pursue criminal and civil charges for those that presented fictitious and inaccurate claims. For this discussion, you will continue your exploration of government websites in order to respond to the discussion prompt, which is based on the case scenario presented below.
Case Scenario
You work in a provider system. One of the providers in the system has been found guilty of submitting false claims for the last 5 years. The government has determined that the controls to prevent or detect fraud in the provider system are weak. As a result of weak controls, other claims need to be probe tested and reviewed via an audit. The claim set selected/ pulled by the government includes some claims submitted to Medicare, on your patients, for services you performed. You were told the Office of Inspector General is involved and you will be hearing more in the near future and as needed. Shocked and surprised by all this, you start asking for clarification within your organization and quickly learn your organization has no Compliance Officer or staff to consult. The provider system seems to have no resources to train you and though you did received 30 minutes of voluntary annual compliance training from a vendor, an audit situation was not discussed. You begin doing some self research on the False Claims regulations to try to better understand this situation.
Write a 2 part discussion post that includes:
Your thoughts about how you feel learning that the organization did not invest in having a Compliance Officer or staff. Speculate what other concerns you may have about your patients and/ or your career if the tone at the top of the organization is lacked when it comes to compliance. Speculate on how false claims will inflate the national cost of healthcare, harm patients and divert precious resources away from those that need care.

This week in Chapter 9, we read about the many stressors people can experience across the lifespan, including grief, loss, and identity issues. Here are some ideas for your post to get you started:
Life brings about a lot of change. The change may feel welcome to some, and it may feel traumatic to others. When reading this chapter, were there any vignettes that resonated for you? If so, why?
If parents have a child with a disability, much time could be spent helping the child cope, live, and function. How could you, as the counselor, best support a parent from feeling isolated?
Share your thoughts on the dual process model of grief work. How would you normalize this process with a client?
