“The Impact of Income Inequality on the American Dream: Exploring Competing Views and the Relationship with Upward Mobility”
To what extent does income inequality impair the American Dream of upward mobility?
Consider at least two competing views on the topic of income inequality and whether or not it impacts the ability of individuals and groups in society to move up the economic ladder.
Consider past and present definitions of the American Dream and the place that material wealth, economic success, and upward mobility have in these versions of the dream.
Consider the relationship between income inequality and upward mobility.
Consider how belief in traditional, and some might say, idealized versions of the American Dream may cause people to ignore or be less concerned about income inequality and its effects. -
“The Mask of Perfection: Exploring the Harmful Effects of Social Media Lies”
first assignment is a short and hopefully enjoyable assignment. I want you to write a 250-400 word short paper in which you define your own lie in the vein of Stephanie Ericsson’s essay “The Ways We Lie.” You may think of this as a reading response paper to Ericsson’s essay. I want you to cite her essay at least once, using APA style in-text citations, and explain a type of lie that she did not cover. Write an introduction about lying that mentions Ericsson’s essay, define your lie, give examples of it, and describe if you think the lie is harmful or not harmful.
For example—and do not use this one please—“The My Computer Crashed Lie” in which panicked students who forgot to do their English paper write their professor pretending that their computer crashed in the hopes of getting an extension. Your lie can be a broad category of deception that her essay didn’t cover or else a specific type of lie that might or might not fit under one of her terms. The façade of Instagram? The façade of being a nurse? A lie of omission that helps people? Whatever you’d like.
While this short paper can be fun, I do expect it to be proofread. And most importantly this essay needs to be in APA formatting. The grade will be 5 points for the writing and 5 for APA.
Look at this checklist:
Give your essay an original title. Not just “Define a Lie” or “First Paper” but a title specific to your paper.
Include your original title on both the APA title page and above the start of the paper on page 2.
Include a proper APA title page.
Include an APA reference page.
Proofread and spellcheck.
Turn in before midnight.

Title: “The Impact of Social Media on Mental Health: A Synthesis of Research”
Please upload the final draft of your Synthesis Essay here. A few things to remember: make sure you have read the assignment directions carefully! Your final draft will need an MLA Works Cited page with sources cited in the text of your paper- this is in the assignment directions. Additionally, you must make sure you have made revisions to your final draft. Please make sure you don’t submit the same document that you turned in for a rough draft without making revisions, or you will lose points.
Good luck, and I look forward to reading all of your papers! -
Title: “The Ramifications of the Supreme Court’s Decision on Discrimination in Business: An Analysis of 303 Creative LLC v. Elenis”
Hi Class, Recently, the US Supreme Court issued its decision in the case of 303 Creative LLC v. Elenis. By a 6-3 vote, the Court has created a carve out to public state accommodation laws that bar discrimination based on sexual orientation. The Court ruled that a proclaimed Christian graphic artist who wants to design wedding websites can refuse to work with same-sex couples. The Court created this exception on the basis of 1st Amendment free speech. Summaries of this Court decision (including the full Court opinion) can be found in the links below. For a possible (3) points extra credit, please answer the following questions:
1. What potential ramifications does this decision have on businesses? Does this open the door for private businesses to legally discriminate against other protected classes of people?
2. Based on this decision, can the tables be turned – can a private business such as a lawyer refuse to represent a client based on their political orientation? For example, if a lawyer finds individuals who identify as MAGA to be adverse to their personal beliefs, and as their work involves the business of speech, can the lawyer expressly decline cases purely on the basis of political affiliation? 3. Does your answer in question #2 change if the facts are revised such that the lawyer refuses to represent any clients whose religious beliefs differ from those of the lawyer?
