  • The Benefits of Learning a New Language for Adult Learners

    Expository Essay Topic Summer 2024
Topic: Benefits of Learning a new language for adult learners
Write a 5-paragraph expository essay based on what you learned from the
reading documents used during weeks 1, 2 and 3 of this course. You need to use
both the readings from Unit 1 and you may use two of the four posted articles in
Week 2. So, you should use four sources in total; 2 readings and 2 articles.
In your expository essay explain the recent research findings about the benefits of
learning a new language for adult learners; explain the significance of learning a
new language for students, adults, and for all people including us.
Be sure to paraphrase; do not use quotes. Remember that when you paraphrase,
you are allowed to use key vocabulary which is mentioned in all the four articles.
It is not necessary to use any other research. Please use only the reading
documents which we will be using in the first three weeks of this semester. In-text
citations are necessary when you paraphrase the reading documents. For all the
other texts, there are authors and dates.
Please follow the PPT on Referencing for your Expository Essay available under
    Week 2 Content on SLATE
Use APA format: double-space, size 12 font, Times New Roman or Arial, indent
paragraphs by half an inch, no title page required.
Your essay has a word limit of 500 words which is roughly 2 double spaced pages.
You do not need a reference page or a title page for this assignment, but you
need in-text citations according to APA formatting style.
Please do not submit a pdf file as I will not be able to input any changes or
corrections. If you do submit a pdf file, I will take two marks off as you did not
    follow instructions.
You are only supposed to submit an MS Word doc file. No other file type is
    acceptable for any assignment.

  • “Building a Foundation: The Shitty First Draft of a Critical Essay on Education”

This week you will be working on your “shitty first draft” of the Critical Essay. This is the first of two rough drafts you will submit. Before you submit your rough draft #1, be sure to review the lecture and check that you have the basic structure and all required paragraphs of your essay in place. As the lecture points out, all good essays start with a strong foundation. In this assignment, you will begin to build that foundation. Once you have instructor feedback, you will then submit rough draft #2 next, ultimately building up to the final essay. Before you submit your rough draft #1, check that the following parts of your essay are present: The Introduction: Using the knowledge you have gained through working with the two provided sources, introduce the topic of education to your readers. Provide your readers with background information, and end with a thesis or purpose statement that reveals your connection to the issue. Be sure to introduce the two sources you are asked to analyze. Include each author’s last name, title of the TEDxTalk/article, and date of the source. Remember that both sources are linked in this assignment’s description. Body Paragraph 1 (Source Summary 1): Start this paragraph with a topic sentence that includes the author’s last name and date of the work in question. For example: In Bernadotte’s TEDxTalk (2018), she indicates… This paragraph is a summary of the first provided source. Remember to return to the feedback you have received on the Summary and Citation assignment for advice on how to develop a good summary. Your summary should contain the author’s most important ideas. Body Paragraph 2 (Source Summary 2): Introduce this paragraph with a topic sentence that includes the author’s last name and date of the work in question. For example: In Kent’s essay (2019), she tells the reader… This paragraph is a summary of the second provided source. These first two body paragraphs should provide your reader with a solid understanding of your sources and the issue you have been researching on education. Body Paragraph 3 (Connection/Reflection): This paragraph is where the source’s ideas and your experiences converge. This paragraph is an analysis of what you have researched and an illustration of how this issue connects to your own life and experiences in education. The Conclusion: The final paragraph will tell your readers what they should take away from your essay. This paragraph will illustrate the significance of the issue, showing your readers why this topic matters. Format: Check that your Critical Essay is formatted properly using APA (hint: use the provided template in Canvas). This includes: A title page; A References page listing full references for your two provided sources (in alphabetical order, double-spaced, with a hanging indent on the second and each additional line of each source); Additional APA Formatting (double-spaced, Times New Roman 12-point font, indented paragraphs, page numbers).

  • “The Economic Contributions of Immigrants to the United States: Debunking Anti-Immigration Arguments”

The first step in this assignment is to write a research paper (3-4 pages) about your topic. The purpose of this essay is to better understand the complexity and nuance of your chosen issue, and to then make an argument about what you think is taking place. The quality of your research paper will depend on the quantity and quality of the research you conduct, and you must use at least one academic research source (see research handout for more information about conducting effective research). However, it is not enough to simply share the information you have found, as you must think about that information, and come to a conclusion about what you think is happening with your current event. Your conclusion will then become the argument that you make in your paper, and all of your research will become the evidence you use to support your argument. Your essay will be graded on the strength of your argument and on your ability to use your research as evidence supporting it.
What i’d like to speak on is how immigrants have helped and continue to help the US economy and though there are many people who say they aren’t for immigration, they benefit from it daily.
not sure if you can make that into a research paper but that’s what i’m looking for.

  • “The Reptilian Invasion: A Fight for Freedom”

We were the most intelligent species. The only ones with structure and intelligence. At least that’s what we thought. Then they came. Earth as we knew it, changed forever. Equality, class, money and war – they seemed like insignificant issues since they came. Now we are all equal, all one, all enslaved. It was 2058 when they arrived. We don’t know how, we don’t know from where.  All we knew is they were here. Reptilian-like creatures started appearing world wide, killing, destroying towns and cities. Countries, continents tried to peacefully interact with them, but it was useless. Their intentions were clear: domination and enslavement.
Not 24 hours after the invasion, earth broke into full war. Armies fought for their countries, and for Earth. But this didn’t stop the reptilian creatures. Now millions strong they turned cities to rubble, people to dust, and forests to infernos. Missiles, nuclear warheads, they barely dented their armies. The lizards rampaged across the planet enslaving those they deemed unworthy, obliterating any semblance of resistance. Within two days it was over. 4.7 billion estimated dead. The world was on its knees, civilisation destroyed. Or so we thought.
For six years, I have been living in the shadows. My name, Bartholomew Emanual Penellopous. I am, or was, a weapons scientist. Apart of a small resistance 25,000 strong in outback Straya’ I have been analysing the reptiles and I think I know how to take back our planet.
This is the start, but am too busy right now to finish.

How has technology aided or hindered human communication and what are its benefits and repercussions? What is the significance of how we communicate now and what is to come in the future? The Human Condition theme is related to this theme of Technology and Communication as it is important to consider the dynamic nature of how people connect with others.
