Instructions: Students will write a literary essay or create a powerpoint presentation discussing 2 (or more) of the course readings (including poems, films, novels)  that we’ve read or viewed over the course of the term. Your essay should focus on a theme that connects the texts together. The choice of texts should be from different Units of Study and your essay topic should be different from previous essays.
Your essay write-up or presentation slides must include a thesis statement, evidence/quotations from the primary texts, supporting evidence from 1-3 secondary sources, a conclusion, and a Reference page in MLA or APA style. Please make sure all sources are referenced through in-text citations and a reference page. 
Here are some suggestions for topics/ themes, but feel free to develop your own theme/topic:

Assumption of risk requires that the injured person knew of the risk and voluntarily assumed it. The risk can be assumed by express agreement or implied by the plaintiff’s knowledge of the risk and subsequent conduct. Sometimes a defense can be based on a liability waiver or an exculpatory clause. Review the following case, Cole v. Identify the four elements of negligence. Explain the reasonable person standard and how it applies to this case. How is the assumption of risk a defense? Define comparative negligence. Could comparative negligence apply to this case? If the Boy Scouts of America required a liability waiver prior to any sporting activities, do you think that it would have released them from liability? Even if there was no obligation, would there be an ethical duty of the location where the game was played to post a warning sign? Do you agree or disagree with the outcome of this case? Why? Through writing this assignment, you will be responsible for using a minimum of 2 scholarly/peer-reviewed sources (e.g. GMC Library). Textbooks are not considered a scholarly/peer-reviewed source; however, they may still be included as a supplemental reference.
Your assignment is to be a minimum of 500 words. Going over the minimum page length requirement is acceptable; however, I am not looking for a 10+ page essay.
Be as thorough as possible when writing your assignment, and remember, this is an academic assignment, so no “text-talk,” no conversational tone, and ABOVE ALL OTHER THINGS… don’t plagiarize!! Lastly, spell-check and proofread your work! Failure to follow these steps will negatively impact your grade.

Your professional artifact will be the culmination of your research in the course. Since members of our class will be working on quite different projects, I wanted to set the expectations early, so that all projects will be similar in scope. Below are the expectations for the types of projects I have mentioned so far, though I am more than happy to consider other professional products if you so choose.
All of the projects require: 
A 2-page introduction: Since this project is the culmination of our learning this semester, your intro should discuss your process in creating the professional artifact, how this product aligns with your beliefs about the role of business professionals (go back to your professional narrative), and your hopes for this project in the future
References page, using APA 7th edition format.
Grant Proposal
You will choose actual grants that exist to write up a mock grant proposal in its entirety. Your proposal may be for a research study, fund, or other project and you may choose to submit as part of a larger organization (non-profit, lab, university, etc). As part of this proposal you will need to design an effective project including goals,  methods, and timeline as well as a budget plan for use of the grant. You will also include a cover letter and executive summary as appropriate to the grant.
I have attatched a sample of what it should look like as well as the past essay for reference.  Please also use the same sources if you need to reuse them.

Watch clips from the assigned film then answer the following question:

How important is editing to the kind of film you chose?  Does the editing heighten the drama/mystery? The comedy/humor? Irony? Violence?  
Consider how types or aspects of editing: flashback, montage, shot/scene duration, graphic matches (how shots match up and the affect created) etc. add to or setup the romance, humor, and/or tragedy in the film. 
Give specific examples from the film as you answer the question.  Keep in mind terminology (types of edits) from the textbook.

In Part One, you will organize your research in preparation to write a persuasive essay in Part Two. To prepare your collection of sources, revise the assignment you submitted in Module Three using the instructor feedback you received. This part of your project should be about 1 to 2 pages long.
Specifically, you must address the following:
State the purpose of your research.
Consider the purpose of your research in relation to your topic.
State your research question.
Describe the impact of using biased sources to support your topic.
Describe how diverse perspectives from sources support your position. Consider the following:
Are there multiple voices?
How do these diverse perspectives from your research support your topic?
List relevant sources to support your persuasive essay.
Include at least one source from the Project Resources document and at least two sources that you find through your own research using the Shapiro Library.
Include an APA or MLA citation for each source.
Describe how each source supports your topic.
Briefly summarize each source.
State why the source is credible.
State how the source is relevant to your research question.

1 Interpretive Paper Date Title of Your Paper Goes Here Every paragraph should be double-spaced and begin with an indent. All margins are one inch. Your paper should be 750 to 1000 words long. This sample is only 346 words, so your paper will be longer. Note the name, assignment, and date information included at the top. Be sure to include that on your paper. List your title before the first paragraph and make sure it is centered. This sample uses 11 pt. Calibri. You can also use 11 pt. Arial, 11 pt. Georgia, or 12 pt. Times New Roman. In-text citations should appear right after the quote you are using. In your Interpretive Paper, you are only using one source (the story you chose to read). Since you have just one source, the in-text citations will only be the page number from the story. Below is an example. Carol’s turning point in “Love’s Letters” is when she finally lets herself begin to grieve for her father. When she is cleaning out her house, she doesn’t think anything will bother her. She grabs a box and starts throwing items from the bathroom cabinet inside. “But when she picked up her daddy’s aftershave she was overcome with his scent and with ache to have her face on his shoulder as she did as a child” (p.7). The smell of her father’s aftershave evokes a memory that is so powerful it pulls her out of the no-nonsense businesswoman persona she has put on to deal with the death of her last remaining parent. She at last can no longer hold back the grief that comes from losing her father and this part of her history. Be sure to use an in-text citation for every quote you use. 1 At the end of your paper, include a Reference page. It will list your source, which is the story you read. Be sure to include the author, date, title of the story, and publisher. This information for your story is located in the course. You can see an example on the next page. Modified Literacy Lesson Plans: Create 3 lessons

For this assignment, you will develop a formal, documented essay. 
Choose one of the following two options: 
1. Write a research-based essay that makes an argument about how the nation (and you can take this in whatever way you like: the government, the churches, the schools, etc) should solve the crisis of gender-based violence in The Bahamas today. Focus on providing a well-researched and documented essay based on credible sources. Use the essay “Gender-Based Violence is a Public Health Crisis that Must Be Addressed” by Alicia Wallace as a jumping off point for your essay; you must refer to Wallaces’s essay in your paper. 
2. Write a research-based essay that explores any social, ethnic, or national group that has settled in The Bahamas except Haitians. Focus on providing a well-researched and documented essay based on credible sources. Use either the essay “Pilgrims and Exiles in Abaco” by Leah Butterfield or “The Invasion from the South” by Charmane Perry as a jumping off point for your essay; you must refer to whichever essay you choose in your paper to position your essay
Additional evidence for this essay must come from at least four external sources, three of which must be academic (that is from a scholarly journal or book), plus the essay you have chosen. Your essay must be in a formal style and have a proper MLA works cited page.
