“The Moral Dilemma: Balancing Mercy and Justice in Religious Moral Codes”
Instructions
See the general instructions in the Essay Discussion Instructions section of the course menu.
Once you choose which question you’d like to write about, write your essay, post it in the discussion board, and also save it as a Word document.
To create your post, click reply at the bottom of the discussion instructions.
To be able to read and respond to others’ posts, you will first need to publish your own post. Your first post is the one that will be graded–a blank post WILL be graded if it is your first post in the board. You can save your post as a draft, but it will not be published for students to view, nor will it be queued for grading until you click the Submit button. When you refresh the board, after you publish your post, it will allow you to view everyone’s posts.
Use your course texts to help you respond to the topic, and when you quote and summarize from the course texts, include information about the page reference.
You are discouraged from using additional sources. If you do choose to use an outside source, be sure to cite your source, just as you do when you use the course texts. If you use a quotation or an example from a website, cite the website’s URL and the date accessed.
Once you are ready for your classmates to read it, post the thread containing your essay. Then go to the TurnItIn dropbox section here in Blackboard and post your Word document into the dropbox. You do not need to include your response to another student in the file that you upload to TurnItIn.
Finally, read your classmates’ posts. A complete assignment includes your written response to at least one essay besides your own–part of your score is based on your reply to at least one of your classmate’s posts. It should be a meaningful reply that continues the discussion, points out something good about the post, and makes a constructive suggestion for improvement.
Essay Length tips–To answer these topics completely, it takes a minimum of 350 words. Use the topic questions and the scoring rubric to see if your draft responds fully to all parts of the question. A complete thoughtful answer is more important than word count.
Topics for your Essay, Choose one
Topic A: You try to live strictly by the moral rules contained in your religion’s moral code. The two most important rules are “Be merciful” (don’t give people what they deserve) and “Be just” (give people exactly what they deserve). Now suppose a man is arrested for stealing food from your house, and the police leave it up to you whether he should be prosecuted for his crime or set free. Should you be merciful and set him free, or be just and make sure he is appropriately punished? How do you resolve this conflict of rules? Can your moral code resolve it? To what moral principles or theories do you appeal?
PLEASE DO TOPIC A
The one I did is just to help get an IDEA of what needs to be done, DO NOT COPY AS IT IS USED WITH AI
Topic B: Why do you think people are tempted to use the straw man fallacy in disagreements on moral issues? How do you feel when someone uses this fallacy against you? To demonstrate your understanding and to teach the idea to the rest of the class, provide a relevant real-life example of the logical mistake. (You MAY use an outside source to help you present your example; be sure to summarize or paraphrase, cite, and use announcing verbs.) Choose carefully—consider whether your example does a good job of illustrating a Straw Man. Compare it to similar fallacies, and show why your example is a Straw Man rather than another fallacy like an Appeal to the Pearson. The discussion of your example should be detailed so that readers can evaluate the fallacy. Argue the case for why your example is an example of Straw Man. -
Title: The Role of Emotions in Moral Reasoning: Finding a Balance between Logic and Feeling
After reading all of Chapter 3, please utilize the ideas, concepts, and information in the chapter to answer the following question in 250-500 words:
If moral reasoning is largely about providing good reasons for moral claims, where do feelings enter the picture? Is it possible to present a logical argument that you feel strongly about? If so, provide an example of such an argument.
(PLEASE DO NOT USE MINE AS IT WAS FROM CHATGPT BUT IT IS FOR AN IDEA OF WHAT NEEDS TO BE DONE) -
Title: “Decoding the Rhetorical Strategies of Advertisements: A Close Analysis of [Advertisement]” “The Power of Rhetorical Appeals in Advertising: A Critical Analysis of Coca-Cola’s ‘Open Happiness’ Campaign” The Power of Rhetorical Appeals in Advertising: A Critical Analysis of Coca-Cola’s “Open Happiness” Campaign In the world
This is a rhetorical analysis writing assignment. A rhetorical analysis looks at the relationship between the text and the author and uses close reading and analysis to break out components of the text with the purpose of figuring out how it works. In this assignment, we’ll focus on advertisements; you’ll be asked to look at a specific advertisement to see how it works and to see how it tries to sell the product/service it is advertising, and then you’ll discuss the ad within the context of your essay.
You are required to use 1 source in addition to your advertisement, so you can feel free to incorporate this source use where you see fit in the context of your own essay. For example, you could research some background information on the company that is advertising the product in your advertisement. Or, you could research some information on the person or product who is present in your advertisement.
A Few Specifics:
3 pages of text (not including the title page, references page, or the ad image if you include it)
12 pt. font
1” margins, typed, double-spaced
1 credible source
APA documentation style and page formatting for all pages
List the source and the advertisement you choose on a separate references page cited in APA format and placed on a separate page at the end of your essay
Use in-text citations for any selections you use from any sources used; whether you paraphrase, summarize or directly quote them

A Note on Essay Organization:
The introduction of this essay should provide the title of the advertisement, indicate what product/service it is selling, include some background information about it if needed, and a summary of what the advertisement actually looks like (its features). The last part of your introduction should be your statement/your thoughts on how the advertisement tries to sell the product using rhetorical appeals, such as logos, ethos and pathos (see link to an overview of these appeals below).
The body of your essay should discuss the advertisement in detail, picking out specific parts of it (the rhetorical appeals logos, ethos, pathos, images, color, words, hidden messages, etc.) and how these parts work together to sell the product/service. This should be based on your own personal reading of the advertisement; your ideas.
The conclusion to your essay should wrap up your discussion on how the advertisement attempts to sell the product/service and your main points of discussion.
Some Suggested Steps to Follow in Order to Complete This Assignment:
To begin this assignment, select one advertisement (either print-based or a commercial)
Find 1 related source from the LMC Library databases, or another credible site that will help you discuss your advertisement, or provide context for introducing the advertisement. Remember to pick source material that will allow you support/illustrate various points/claims you want to make about your discussion on the advertisement. If you want to keep it simple you can use your textbook as the 1 source you incorporate. Your goal is to practice incorporating sources into your own writing.
Brainstorm and begin writing a draft that uses textual support from the advertisement (discussion of the rhetorical appeals logos, ethos, pathos, images, color, words, hidden messages, etc.), and textual support from the related source you found.

“The Power of Laughter: Exploring the Benefits of Humor” The Power of Humor: The Physical and Mental Benefits of Laughter “The Power of Laughter: Benefits for Mental and Physical Health”
Benefits of Humor Informative Research Essay Instructions
This is a five-paragraph research paper, written in the form of an informative essay.
You need to use at least three reliable websites or other trustworthy research sources to gather information for this paper. Cite those sources on your works cited page at the end of your paper. Your works cited page must be in MLA format. DO NOT JUST COPY AND PASTE THE ADDRESSES OF THE WEBSITES. Here is a link to a document that can help you with your works cited page. Page two of the document shows you what a works cited page with five MLA citations looks like. You only need three MLA citations on your works cited page for this research paper. https://docs.google.com/document/d/1NwSsCCis0as5wb6PbmG9t5w7C60zAvGyv8yst2wHUMc/edit?usp=sharing
You will need at least two quotes in your paper. If you have forgotten how to use quotes, here is a document that will help.

Every body paragraph needs to contain at least one in-text citation that points to where you found your information. An in-text citation appears in parentheses at the end of a sentence. An in-text citation might come after a direct quote or at the end of a section of your paper that is paraphrased (changed into your own words). The in-text citation directs your reader to one of the MLA citations on your works cited page. It’s not enough just to have a works cited page at the end of your paper; you also need in-text citations to show the reader which source on your works cited page you used to gather the information for each body paragraph. If you know the author of the information’s name, put his or her last name in parentheses. If you don’t know the author’s name, you can put the name of the website in parentheses. Your in-text citation should make it easy to match the information in your body paragraph with one of the MLA citations on your works cited page. Here is a document that may help. https://docs.google.com/document/d/1ap8gOLqSJWoeeSxLVOArgQQOyttsxBu01iWEvIgDmu0/edit?usp=sharing
Start by doing research about the benefits of laughter or humor. Pick three important ways humor or laughter can be beneficial. Be sure to bookmark the websites where you find the most helpful information. Take notes from those websites. When taking notes, don’t write sentences. Just jot down phrases in your own words. Always use your own words when note-taking, unless you plan to quote the information. If you find a quote you’d like to use in your paper, copy it onto a notecard word-for-word. Do not have the websites open when you begin writing your paper. Only use your notes that are written in your own words and your notecards. This will help you to avoid accidental plagiarism.
Write a five paragraph informative essay.
Your first paragraph will be the Introduction. Start with an attention grabber. Next, preview each of the three benefits of humor in the same order you will be covering them in your body paragraphs by writing one sentence about each benefit. Do not have any quotes or juicy details in your introduction. Save that stuff for your body paragraphs. Finally, end your introduction with a three-part thesis statement. A three-part thesis statement contains a list. The first item in the list corresponds to Body Paragraph A, the second item to Body Paragraph B, and the third item to Body Paragraph C. Start Body Paragraph A with a transition (First, To begin, To start,). Your first sentence should be a topic sentence about the first benefit of humor that you mentioned in your thesis statement. Include either a quote or paraphrased text from one of your sources in the middle of the paragraph to support your topic sentence. Never include a quote in the first or last sentence of a body paragraph. Be sure to explain the significance of your quote. End with a concluding sentence. Do not introduce a new idea in your concluding sentence. Simply sum up what you said in the paragraph. Your concluding sentence will be similar to your topic sentence, but you will use different words to avoid redundancy.
Start Body Paragraph B with a transition (Second, Next, In addition,). Your first sentence should be a topic sentence about the second benefit of humor that you mentioned in your thesis statement.
Start Body Paragraph C with a transition (Third, Finally, Lastly,). Your first sentence should be a topic sentence about the third benefit of humor that you mentioned in your thesis statement.
Your final paragraph is your Conclusion. Start with a transition, such as “In conclusion” or “To sum up” and then restate your thesis statement, which was the last sentence of your introduction, using different words. Do not use the exact same words because it will sound redundant. You do not need a three-part list in your restated thesis statement. Next, review each of the three benefits of humor you discussed in the body of your paper in the same order that you covered them in your body paragraphs. Do not introduce any new information in your conclusion. If you introduce new information, it won’t be a conclusion; it will be a fourth body paragraph. End your paper by coming back to your attention grabber, which was the first sentence of your paper. It will give your paper a circular structure and a sense of wholeness.
