  • Research Paper Checklist: Ensuring All Components are Complete

    Research Paper Checklist
    Making sure that you have completed all the required components of the research paper is an important step in being successful on the assignment. In order to facilitate this, you will complete this checklist by following these instructions.
    To complete this assignment, you will need to submit a copy of your research paper. On your paper, please ensure you have the following items. Mark the highlighted items on your essay:
    A clear organizational structure, with introductory and concluding paragraphs and body paragraphs that develop the argument Highlight this in yellow on your essay
    A clear, arguable thesis statement Highlight this in pink on your essay
    A title that previews the content of the paper, not “Research Paper” Highlight this in blue on your essay
    A topic sentence at the beginning of every paragraph that focuses the paragraph and develops one idea at a time (there should be one for each body paragraph) Highlight these in green on your essay
    A minimum of 5 typed, proofread pages (approximately 1200 words)
    A minimum of ONE primary source Highlight this in red on your essay
    A minimum of THREE reputable, critical secondary sources, excluding Wikipedia, CliffsNotes, Shmoop or any similar “free essay” type website Highlight these in grey on your essay
    MLA-style parenthetical citations in the body of the essay Highlight these in purple in your essay
    A Works Cited page, formatted in MLA style, that lists all works utilized in the paper, including the primary source(s)
    Please note that these highlights should appear ONLY on the copy that you submit for this assignment. The draft you submit for peer review and the final version of your essay should NOT include these highlights.

    Reflection on Contemporary Issue in Music: AI and the Future of Music
    In this module, you have learned about AI-generated music and have heard different perspectives of what this music might mean for the future of music, musicians, and the music industry. For this assignment, you will analyze the AI-generated song “Betrayed by this Town” by AI-artist Anna Indiana. 

    You will recall that one of the Module videos analyzed this song. You are free to agree or disagree with that video (if you reference it at all), but you will need to provide your own informed thoughts. After watching this performance of “Betrayed by this Town”, write a reflection that is at least 500 words. You will need to address the following in your written reflection:
    Short intro: Provide a brief context about the issues surrounding AI in music and establish that you will analyze this song.
    Analyze the music and lyrics of this AI-generated song and artist. Point to specific times in the video when explaining musical elements, such as melody, harmony, rhythm, musical textures, etc. 
    Incorporate at least one quote from one of the articles you read in the module.
    Incorporate at least one quote from one of the videos you watched in the module.
    Based on your analysis of the song and the learning materials in this module, what does this song suggest about the future role of AI in music? What are the potential benefits and drawbacks of AI-generated music such as this?

  • Title: Combating Human Trafficking: A Call to Action for Individual Involvement Human trafficking is a global issue that affects millions of people, particularly women and children, every year. It is a form of modern-day slavery that involves

    Huamn Trafficking, no evidence/sources needed 
    Each paragraph 5-8 sentences
    The first paragraph  should tell us what the problem is, what your proposed solution is, and how you suggest individuals get involved to make a change. This paragraph should also contain your thesis statement.
    The second paragraph should focus on the problem at hand in a more detailed way. What aspect of this issue do you plan on discussing? Where does the issue occur? Why is it important to research this problem? Each of these should be addressed in paragraph two.
    The third paragraph should outline the change(s) you will advocate for. What, specifically, do you want to change? Are you changing a way of thinking? Are you changing a law or laws? Whose mind or law(s) do you hope to change? Where will this change take place? All of these should be explained in paragraph three.
    The fourth paragraph should deal with individual involvement. How do you propose individuals get involved to affect the changes you discussed in paragraph three? Who needs to be involved? Where? How? Be specific. For example, saying we should “get the government involved” is too broad, whereas “citizens should write their congressmen” or “citizens should contribute to organizations such as…” give specific details that are actually attainable goals

  • “Letter of Admiration to a Living Public Figure”

    Instructions:
    Select one of the writing prompts on page 3 and write a letter as indicated. Be sure to address every part of the writing prompt in your letter. Your letter should be 400-800 words long and will be graded according to how well you:
    Adhere to the context and purpose of your letter
    Tailor your letter to its audience (the recipient/s)
    Develop your ideas and convey meaning
    Use the appropriate level of formality
    Use letter-writing conventions
    Organize the content of your letter
    Use clear language that is free of errors (in grammar, usage, punctuation, and spelling)
    Before you begin writing, take some time to organize your thoughts. Identify the main points you want to communicate, and make a plan for developing and connecting them. Be sure to stay within the given word count range for the task.
    Prompt:
    Write a letter to a living public figure whom you admire. It should be someone you do not know personally, such as an athlete, artist, writer, musician, or politician. Tell them why you appreciate them and be specific about what they do that resonates with you. If they have inspired you to do something in particular in your life, tell them about it. Your letter should not resemble a fan letter written by a child or teenager, nor should it entail a list of the person’s accomplishments. Focus on your perspective as an adult, and write with depth and maturity.

You may want to review the instructions for M1.5 Assignment: Evaluation of an Existing Document before beginning this activity because you will use the same document you choose here for your assignment.
    Your initial discussion response should address, at minimum, the following main points:

    Identify the type of document, medium, sender, receiver/audience, and intended purpose.
    Explain how and why the document was not effective and what ultimately happened because of the unsuccessful communication.
