Spain has been the crossroads of peoples, cultures, cuisines and religions for two millennia,
thus, it is no surprise that Spanish government was among the first to create a unique way for
tourists to experience this rich cultural heritage via its Parador system,

By working on Week 14, I hope you realized that the Parador system is a perfect example of
cultural asset(s) being turned into a tourism product. The whole thrust of our second textbook
was really about identifying, preserving and showcasing culture for tourists.
Your task: Write a 500-word reflection about the Paradores system and how it showcases and
makes culture available for tourism. Refer to “The Paradores Story” learned in Week 14, then
start your discussion with a short (max: 50 word) introduction to Paradores system that
includes the name of the first Parador and when it opened. Then, discuss how Spanish
Paradores are preserving both tangible and intangible cultural heritage, with concrete
examples from your assigned Parador. If you run out of things to say, address some of the
tangible/intangible characteristics of another Parador. A good one is the Parador de Granada.
