  • Assignment Title: Decision Trees for Investment and Drug Development Decisions

    Please complete the problems using Excel, answer the questions asked in Word, then submit both files.
    IMPORTANT: To ensure that your solution is visible in a SpeedGrader, please take a screenshot of your decision trees and submit these images together with your Excel file. Thank you!
    Question 1
    Mr. Brown is looking to invest some money in stock and has four possible options. After consulting with his financial planner, he has the following estimated values of his investment based on the various market outcomes:
    SUA YSP HTC YHA
    Investment Value Probability Investment Value Probability Investment Value Probability Investment Value Probability
    $69,150 55% $65,820 50% $58,205 45% $57,250 65%
    $48,375 30% $49,320 25% $52,940 35% $50,250 30%
    $35,365 15% $46,765 25% $49,605 20% $45,250 5%
    To assist Mr. Brown in his decision, build a decision tree and answer the following questions:
    Which stock should Mr. Brown invest in and what is the expected monetary value of that decision?
    Which stock has the worst expected monetary value?
    How sensitive the optimal decision strategy is to changes in probabilities associated with YSP? Specifically, if the probability for $65,820 could vary anywhere between 40% and 60%, how would that affect an outcome of the tree? (Hint: replace 50% with a parameter function, change the lowest 25% to a formula that ensures all options total to 100%)
    Question 2
    Excelia Inc. is planning to develop a new drug and has to make a series of decisions during its development. Since Excelia has already signed contracts to provide its drug, stopping the development would cost then $230,000. However, if they were to continue the development, the production costs are expected to be $606,000. If they invest these costs they would have to conduct clinical trials and there is only a 30% chance the drug is successful in these trials. If it isn’t successful, all invested money is lost. If it is successful, Excelia will have to seek FDA approval or stop development at this point. If they seek approval it will cost Excelia $25,000. There is a 60% chance the FDA will approve the drug and only a 40% chance they will not. Finally, if they approve the drug, there is various market potentials for the drug’s demand. There is a 60% chance the market is large with an expected revenue of $6,202,000, a 30% chance the market is moderately sized with an expected revenue of $2,389,000, and a 10% chance the market is only small with an expected revenue of $1,749,000.
    Build a decision tree to model the decision process for Excelia Inc. and answer the following questions:
    Which decision should Excelia make along the development process?
    What is the expected monetary value of that decision?

  • Title: “Improving Policy Implementation and Communication: A Proposal for Organizational Change”

    ASSIGNMENT 1:  Policy Proposal and the Communication Process (25 points):  Students are given the task to create a new policy or revise an existing policy for their educational institution or any organization.  Students will examine the procedures to establish a proposal or recommendation for this new or revised policy and submit a proposal or resolution to be considered for this policy change. You are to submit a document with the following:
    1. Proposed details for exact policy proposed (e.g., curriculum and instruction, influence of daily operations, diversity, ethics, demographics, equity, equality, compromise);
    2. Positive aspects (strengths) of implementing proposal recommendation;
    3. Negative aspects (limitations-obstacles) of implementing proposal recommendation;
    4. Brief financial analysis (i.e., costs and benefits) of the proposal recommendation; and
    5. Recommended implementation date and rationale for selecting this date.  Provide an analysis of the proposed recommendation and the reason for its submission.  For example, the need for the policy, which stakeholders are involved, who will follow the policy, who will manage the policy implementation, and who will monitor people to follow the policy changes.
    Additionally,  look at ways of communicating this policy to your colleagues, employees, or other possible stakeholders. The role of communicating policy is extremely important whether from a proactive or reactive position. Failure to transmit policy or any instructions can have a negative impact in regards to an organization. If you fail to educate or inform your people of a new or revised policy, many stakeholders and the organization could be faced with unlimited consequences (i.e., ethical situations, diversity, accountability, transparency).  With the above in mind, you will add how human resources could handle communicating policy to the internal entity of your organization. No matter the stage of policy development, everyone responsible for the policy must be informed.  You are to prepare a doctoral-level paper, at least five “full” pages of content, plus a title page, and a references page. Since this assignment is written from your perspective, you will write in the first person; there are at least 5 scholarly references (2018-2023) required to support your responses.

  • The Impact of Language on Students and Classroom Relationships

    All discussions will be open the first two weeks of the module. You are required to have your original post in by the 10th day of the module (a Wednesday). All discussions will close on Friday (day 12). Please refer to the Discussion Rubric for additional requirements. You can use Screencast-o-matic or Voki to present your original post and/or responses should you choose. Remember Voki isn’t ADA compliant on its own and would need a script or to be recorded with screencast-o-matic. Written responses should be a minimum of 300 words. A spoken response would be 2.5 to 3.5 minutes. In this discussion, please discuss the following citing class readings and video (no outside sources) when applicable:
    How does our language impact our students and how does it help or hurt the relationships we create with them? (related to Johnston and Pierson)
    Do children have to like us to learn from us? What has been your belief in the past and has it changed from what you’ve learned in this class so far?
    What does literacy look like in classrooms that support literacy as a social practice (Larson & Marsh, 2015; M2 Content Guide)?
    What stood out to you from the readings and video? Are these things present in your classroom or things you would like to exist in your classroom?

  • “Assessing Student Growth: A Comparison of Pre-Assessment, Formative Assessment, and Summative Assessment Results”

    For part D, student 8 is not a student who shows growth as this student scored 80% on the pre-assessment and then went to only proficient in one out of three areas on the formative assessment.
    Student 2 scored a 50% on the pre-assessment but then is proficient in all three areas on the formative assessment, so this would be a student who showed growth.
    I would switch those and then provide the accurate comparisons.
    For the feedback, you want to be sure that you are providing feedback to the two identified students in part D. So if you use student 8 and student 2, those are the students that need feedback.
    For part F, I would use the chart below to compare the pre-assessment to the summative assessment and to identify your two students.
    The bottom row shows you the proficiency growth for each skill area and the column all the way to the right shows the overall score for each student. Student number 1 can be a student who shows growth, but the data you provide is not correct. Student number 2 shows growth, so you would need a different student for this aspect.
    For part F1, you will provide feedback to the class and the two identified students based on the data above.
