  • Title: The Effects of Learning Materials and Assessment Methods on Student Achievement in Elementary Schools: A Critique and Proposed Study

    A. Abstract (about 250 words or less. The abstract is not counted in the word count total)
    1.     Summarize your question and the rationale (1 sentence). Describe your methods (1-2 sentences).
    2.     Describe your anticipated results (1-2 sentences). Highlight the key conclusion (1 sentence). Include 3-4 keywords.
    B. Literature Review (about 1,000 words)
    1.     Pick an empirical study (one with data), so that you can critique their methods and/or offer your (alternative) interpretation of their results.
    2.     Summarize what the researchers did (methods) and what they found (results & discussion).
    3.     Critique the study (highlight strengths and weaknesses). Propose a follow-up question/hypothesis.

    1.     Describe the methods. Make sure your methods address some of the methodological weaknesses you identified in the study you critique.

    1.     Describe what you expect to find. Include a graph or chart of the results that you anticipate.
    E. Discussion (about 100 words)
    1.     Discuss how your anticipated findings add to the reviewed literature (e.g. the study you critiqued, others found in your literature review).
    F. References (not counted in the 1500-word total)
    G. Appendix (not counted in the 1500-word total)
    In an Appendix create an annotated bibliography with at least 8 resources (these can be the citations from within your paper and/or additional outside sources). Selected resources should either further your knowledge related to your critiqued paper or be directly related to your proposed study. The purpose of this annotated bibliography is to have you locate and record citations to various documents that will be useful when contributing to your group research project.
    Make sure to set aside adequate time to complete this part of the writing process. You will need to read/skim selected documents and not just use the abstracts.
    Follow this format when completing your annotated bibliography:

    Reflective notes
    Pages to note
    This is where you will provide the full APA citation (often in Google scholar or within the data base this is provided- double check it’s correct).
    Brief summary of the article, book, document, etc.

    the last 5 years) and must address the topics listed above.

    is one of the most frequently used databases for researching education topics.
    However, Liberty University’s EBSCOhost also provides full-length articles to
    download for free.
    Include a PDF of the actual
    article along with your journal article review (the assignment submission area
    allows multiple document uploads).
    Write your article review using Microsoft
    Word (no other computer program, such as Works or Word Perfect, is acceptable).
    Each Journal Article Review must be 350–500 words and adhere to current APA
    formatting. Each Journal Article Review must be accompanied by a
    title/reference page, as well as at least 3 in-text citations and a reference
    page with a minimum 2 references. One reference will be the selected article,
    another can be any other scholarly sources related to the topic. Include a
    biblical Scripture(s) that relate to the topic. Give a brief explanation of the

    Language, literacy, and learning theories are the foundations of literacy instructional models, programs, and practices. Reading/literacy specialists should understand how language and literacy theories can be applied to instruction in their role working with teachers and students. Understanding literacy theories is important before suggesting strategies and practices to be implemented.

  • Title: The Complexities of Ethics in Educational Research In the forum post, the author discusses the importance of ethics in educational research and raises some thought-provoking questions about the ethical considerations that researchers must navigate. I completely agree with the author

    We have explored the origins and evolution of minority-dominant group relations in the U.S.  Explain how the origins of slavery in the U.S., the Noel hypothesis and the Blauner hypothesis explain the contact and relations between African Americans and Whites in the U.S.  Also, what is the impact of industrialization and the post-industrial society on the relations between minorities and the dominant group in the U.S.?

    One key to success in working with students struggling with literacy skills is providing instructional support outside of the classroom. These supports are often most useful when families are involved in the literacy development process and provided support strategies and resources, as well as progress updates.
    Create an infographic to share with families and students that provides resources in assisting students with literacy development in your content area. The communication should be clear, use family-friendly language, and specify the following:
    A family-friendly explanation of what literacy is, the literacy components, and why it is important in your content area.
