Instructions will be on the word document. This is a 2 part assignement. The first part is filling out a template and the second part is writing a 525 word paper. At the bottom of the word document I gave information to use for the assignment that I did a couple weeks ago. This is a reflection from an observation so just do your best. I’m available to answer any questions. 

Midterm Exam:
Please answer all four (4) questions in the form of complete essays. Be specific and explain your answers in detail.
Several concepts form the basis for viewing social diversity.  Explain in detail what is meant by minority and dominant groups, and the significance of prejudice, discrimination, ideological racism and institutional discrimination.  What is the most important concept in understanding social diversity?  Explain how these concepts have or have not affected you personally or people you know.
America is often viewed as a “melting pot”.  What is assimilation, explain the 3 Sociological perspectives of assimilation, and the importance and variations in assimilation.  What is pluralism and what is the difference between cultural pluralism, structural pluralism, and integration without pluralism.  Do you think that America is a melting pot, a salad bowl or a mosaic?  Explain how these concepts have or have not affected you personally or people you know
Prejudice has been a part of American society since its beginnings.  Discuss in detail the 2 personality based theories and the 3 culture based theories of prejudice.  Which theory (or theories) best explain prejudice.  Explain how prejudice and discrimination have or have not affected you or other people you know.    
We have explored the origins and evolution of minority-dominant group relations in the U.S.  Explain how the origins of slavery in the U.S., the Noel hypothesis and the Blauner hypothesis explain the contact and relations between African Americans and Whites in the U.S.  Also, what is the impact of industrialization and the post-industrial society on the relations between minorities and the dominant group in the U.S.?

One key to success in working with students struggling with literacy skills is providing instructional support outside of the classroom. These supports are often most useful when families are involved in the literacy development process and provided support strategies and resources, as well as progress updates.
Create an infographic to share with families and students that provides resources in assisting students with literacy development in your content area. The communication should be clear, use family-friendly language, and specify the following:
A family-friendly explanation of what literacy is, the literacy components, and why it is important in your content area.
Describe one research-based strategy or resource that is appropriate for practicing each literacy skill (reading, writing, and speaking/listening) and supports the student in your content area outside the classroom.
One method students and/or parents can use to assess students’ progress and growth in content area literacy outside the classroom.
Describe the strategies you will use to communicate student progress in the classroom to the student and parent/guardian/families.

As the Director of your program, you are also responsible for writing policy. The general policy for observation and assessment has been written but is missing a section that outlines the connection to the families and collaboration.

Forum #3: Colonial Era & Schooling Under Spanish Rule. Class Discussion.
After reading Victoria-Maria MacDonald’s article and reviewing the Massachusetts Ed Laws, John Cotton, and New England Primer documents (see: Module #2 Overview page), thoughtfully answer the following questions in 3-5 sentences each. Based on a 10 hour observation period, the candidate will write an overall summary (Child Development Summary) of the child’s development across all domains (linguistic, physical, social, emotional, cognitive, and adaptive) and discuss the influence of the multiple contexts on the child’s development. Candidates will use established milestones and their observations as evidence to suggest activities to encourage the child’s development. Families need to implement the activities so they must consider the family’s situation. Candidates will provide rationales for these activities based on scholarly research.

Using the above Child Observation Form (adapted from page 31 in your Preschool Appropriate Practices: Environment, Curriculum, and Development textbook); analyze the interactions of three children in the Block Center over a three-day period. Notice the observations are written as evidence statements. Evidence statements document only facts. What did I see the child do or hear them say? I did not interpret, summarize or write my observations as a conclusion. Another example:
Correct: Angel asked, “Alex, may I have three more blocks?”
Alex, “Here.” Alex pushed five blocks over to Angel.
Wrong: Alex played well with Angel.
3Ms Review:
Manipulative: When children are introduced to materials for the first time, they need the opportunity to just play with it. This is sometimes called the exploratory stage.
Mastery: Once children have made sense of the item through manipulation, they will automatically move to the mastery or practice stage. While in this stage, children will perform the same actions repeatedly. An example would be a child who is introduced to magnetic blocks. The child will be intrigued by them because they are magnetic and will focus on them a great deal.
Meaning: At this stage, children replicate what they were practicing in the mastery stage using other materials. In other words, if they play a game on the computer, they may play the game similarly using the recently practiced blocks. Other times, they use the object all together differently (a block is used as a cell phone).
Play:
The play levels are based on Mildred Parten’s Stages of Play. For this assignment, we are using the three stages listed (solitary, parallel, cooperative).
Analyze the observations written and develop an instructional plan for each child. In other words, how will you support each child’s play when they return to the “blocks” center. When writing “accomplishments” and “needs,” you may use summary or more subjective statements. When writing about the activities, you are not creating detailed activity plans – a sentence or two for each will suffice.
