Assessment Description
Establishing classroom procedures and routines helps to optimize time for instruction and allows the learning environment to operate efficiently. Students and teachers need to have procedures for everything, based on the needs of the particular class.
For this assignment, identify a class of students in terms of grade level, K-8, and number of students in the class. Create a 10-12 slide digital presentation for the first day of school that will demonstrate how you will introduce expectations, processes, and diversity to your class.
Your digital presentation must include three parts:
Part 1 – Introduction

How students will introduce themselves to each other
How the expectations, procedures, and behavior management will be introduced
How the procedures and expectations will be enforced, along with possible consequences
Part 2 – Expectations for Policies and Procedures

Gaining student attention
Transitions
Part 3 – Incorporate Diversity
How to address diverse needs in your class (e.g., a student in a wheelchair, a student does not speak English, a student who does not celebrate traditional holidays, a student who cannot eat certain foods because of religion, a student who is a different race than the rest of the class, etc.)
How to instructionally support various diverse needs, including language, family backgrounds, skills, and abilities in your classroom
How to develop a culture in your classroom that values each students’ diverse background

Title: Annotation of Quantitative Research Articles on the Effects of Exercise on Mental Health Reference List Entry: Herring, M. P., O’Connor, P. J., & Dishman, R. K. (2010). The effect
Annotation of a Quantitative Research Articles
This week, you will submit the annotation of a quantitative research
article on a topic of your interest. Quasi-experimental, casual
comparative, correlational, pretest–posttest, or true experimental are
examples of types of research designs used in quantitative research.
An annotation consists of three separate paragraphs that cover three
respective components: summary, analysis, and application. These three
components convey the relevance and value of the source. As such, an
annotation demonstrates your critical thinking about, and authority on,
the source. This week’s annotation is a precursor to the annotated
bibliography assignment due in Week 10.
An annotated bibliography is a document containing selected sources
accompanied by a respective annotation of each source. In preparation
for your own future research, an annotated bibliography provides a
background for understanding a portion of the existing literature on a
particular topic. It is also a useful first step in gathering sources in
preparation for writing a subsequent literature review as part of a
dissertation.
Please review the assignment instructions below and click on the
underlined words for information about how to craft each component of an
annotation.
Instructions:
Use the Walden library databases to search for two quantitative ( https://academicguides.waldenu.edu/library/verifypeerreview) . research article from a peer-reviewed journal on a topic of your interest.
Before you read the full article and begin your annotation, locate
the methodology section in the article to be sure that the article
describes a quantitative study. Confirm that one of the types of quantitative designs,
such as quasi-experimental, casual comparative, correlational,
pretest–posttest, or true experimental, was used in the study.
Annotate two quantitative research article from a peer-reviewed journal on a topic of your interest.
Provide the reference list entry
Links to an external site. for this article in APA Style followed by a three-paragraph annotation that includes:
A summary
An analysis
An application
Format your annotation in Times New Roman, 12-point font,
double-spaced. A separate References list page is not needed for this

Title: Understanding the Adolescent Brain: Implications for Instructional Practice and Student Learning
Educators continuously explore approaches to instruction that support adolescents’ physical, cognitive, or socioemotional growth. This awareness guides lesson preparation by understanding the unique challenges adolescents face related to classroom learning.
This two-part assignment will provide students with an introduction to basic facts about the brain including brain function, anatomy, imaging, and stages of cognitive development.
Part 1: 5 Brain Facts
Based on the readings in Topic 2, create an annotated list of 5 Things Every Educator Should Know about the Adolescent Brain.” Include 5 statements – brain facts that assess developmental characteristics of adolescent behaviors. Follow each statement with a 50-100 word paragraph describing how each fact affects learning or brain development that promotes growth for students with physical, cognitive, or socioemotional needs. Provide at least one scholarly resource for each statement.
Example:
Fact: The amygdala is the brain’s emotional control center.
The amygdala regulates the brain’s response to emotions such as fear, excitement, and pleasure. As part of the brain’s limbic system, it is located next to the hippocampus – the part of the brain that plays a significant role in converting information from working memory to long-term memory. Exposure to long-term stress has been found to cause damage to the amygdala which may account for why some students, particularly those from poverty, struggle to regulate their emotions and behavior (Lau, et al., 2016).
Part 2: Reflection
Select two of the facts from your Top 5 list, and in 250-500 words, reflect on and describe ways in which the brain affects learning, constructs knowledge, acquires skills, and develops thinking processes. Be sure to describe opportunities to improve instructional practice and facilitate student learning with the use of technology.
Submit your Top 5 brain facts and reflection as one deliverable.
Support your findings with a minimum of three scholarly resources.
Prepare this assignment according to the guidelines found in the APA Style Guide, located in the Student Success Center. An abstract is not required.
This assignment uses a rubric. Review the rubric prior to beginning the assignment to become familiar with the expectations for successful completion. -

1. Summarize your question and the rationale (1 sentence). Describe your methods (1-2 sentences).
2. Describe your anticipated results (1-2 sentences). Highlight the key conclusion (1 sentence). Include 3-4 keywords.
B. Literature Review (about 1,000 words)
1. Pick an empirical study (one with data), so that you can critique their methods and/or offer your (alternative) interpretation of their results.
2. Summarize what the researchers did (methods) and what they found (results & discussion).
3. Critique the study (highlight strengths and weaknesses). Propose a follow-up question/hypothesis.
C. Methods (about 200 words)
1. Describe the methods. Make sure your methods address some of the methodological weaknesses you identified in the study you critique.
2. Participants
· Who? elementary school, high school, college, etc.
· How many?
1. Materials
· Learning materials?
· Assessment materials? How many items. How scored? Give 1 or 2 examples of each type.
1. Procedures
· What did participants do and for how long and where?
D. AnticipatedResults (about 200 words)
1. Describe what you expect to find. Include a graph or chart of the results that you anticipate.
E. Discussion (about 100 words)
1. Discuss how your anticipated findings add to the reviewed literature (e.g. the study you critiqued, others found in your literature review).
F. References (not counted in the 1500-word total)
G. Appendix (not counted in the 1500-word total)
In an Appendix create an annotated bibliography with at least 8 resources (these can be the citations from within your paper and/or additional outside sources). Selected resources should either further your knowledge related to your critiqued paper or be directly related to your proposed study. The purpose of this annotated bibliography is to have you locate and record citations to various documents that will be useful when contributing to your group research project.
Make sure to set aside adequate time to complete this part of the writing process. You will need to read/skim selected documents and not just use the abstracts.
Follow this format when completing your annotated bibliography:
Citation
Summary
Reflective notes
Pages to note
This is where you will provide the full APA citation (often in Google scholar or within the data base this is provided- double check it’s correct).

Provide some kind of notes on how this might be used, how it relates to your topic, commentary or critiques, etc. This is your place to provide notes on the value of this article.
Did you read particular passages/ pages that are of value to your paper? Notate them here so you can go back.
