1. One paper with a minimum of 3-5 pages of content (Works Cited page is not
content), cited throughout the text and a Works Cited page as the last page of the
paper.
2. PowerPoint Presentation (3-5 slides of content) upload and present on the Discussion
Board.

condition such as infant and maternal mortality, asthma, COVID-19 vaccine administration,
diabetes, high blood pressure, or any other disease you want to research. Pay attention to the two
core areas below in the development of your program.  

For this week’s discussion forum, you will examine the cultural differences related to age and how they impact doing culturally competent work in human services. You will examine a different generation than your own, as well as examine your own areas of growth for working with different generations.

In your initial discussion forum post,
Describe the impact of age on cultural competence in the health and human services field.
Choose a generational group that is different from your own.
Identify at least two ways this cultural group might be different from your own based on research and scholarly sources.
Discuss why those differences are important when doing multicultural human services work.
Describe one personal area of growth for working with a different generational group.
Discuss how you will work on this area of growth.
Be sure to use at least two scholarly or credible sources to support your responses. For help with this, review the Scholarly, Peer-Reviewed, and Other Credible Sourcesguide.
Guided Response: Reply to at least two of your peers by 11:59 p.m. on Day 7 of the week. In your peer responses, try to reply to students who chose a different generational group that you chose and provide additional ways in which a human service worker can provide culturally competent services to their chosen population, using the resources to back up your ideas.

Choose one of the topics from the list below and write an essay about it. The essay should have a minimum
of 5 pages, but feel free to write a longer essay if you feel your argument needs it. Kindly use font Times
New Roman, size 12, and double space. You don’t need a title page, but please give your essay a title and
put your name on it in the heading. Don’t forget to cite every work you used and add a reference list at
the end of the essay. The reference list does not count for your 5-page minimum.
B) Scientific Racism/Biological Racism was a central part of the knowledge formation of pre-WWII,
including the US. Throughout the course and the readings, we saw many instances of justifications for the
maintenance of racial inequality, prohibition of ‘inter-racial’ marriages, eugenics, and many other racist
practices using the language of science. Describe the role of Science and Knowledge in the Racial project
of pre-WWII United States and its impacts on contemporary America.

Purpose:
The purpose of this assignment is to research aspects of a cultural group of your choosing. Of concern is this group’s current situation in the U.S., their struggles, and how students can practice allyship. (USLOs 1.2, 1.4, 2.3, 3.1, 3.3, 4.3, 5.2)
Instructions
Complete the following steps:
First, pick a culture different from yours.
Next, select a person from your friends, relatives, classmates, or workplace that belongs to the culture. Conduct an interview (in-person or phone/video call) or research this cultural group to collect information. Be sure to share the purpose of this assignment with the interviewee to engage in authentic conversations.
Students should collect information using the following questions.
Cultural Treatment
Is the cultural group well represented in the U.S.?
Research the latest demographic data available for this group’s population in the U.S. and your city.
What are the key characteristics of this cultural group, such as language, values, and customs?
How is this group portrayed in the media?
Cultural Oppression
Has this cultural group experienced any type of oppression and privilege throughout history?
What is this cultural group’s current social standing related to oppression and privilege?
What is the best way to be an ally of this group?
After collecting the material, create a PowerPoint Presentation that showcases all the information gathered from the interview/research. You can write in the first person.
During the interview, you are welcome to enter a dialogue with the interviewee when responses about gender, race, or ethnicity elicit more information.
Presentation format
Title slide – Culture’s name, your name, and Galen institution’s name.
Content slides – 8-10 (Excluding the title and references slides), your presentation should include your research on all the prompts, in the given order above. You may go beyond the slide limit.
Conclusion – Synthesize a summary of your content into a conclusion slide. Which aspects stood out for you, and how did learning about this culture contribute to your cultural competency?
Last Slide(s) – References in APA format. Include in-text citations in the body of the slides.
