Your project is a position paper; therefore you must define the issue, include a reaction statement, and defend your position in the paper. The paper should fall between 1750 and 3000 words in length (with a typical font and spacing, 7 to 10 pages) excluding title page, TOC, and references.
Take a stand on the issue. After you have settled on an issue, think about the issue and take a stand. Formulate your thoughts. Know why you feel the way you do about the issue.
Evaluate the pros and cons of both sides of the issue. Display objectivity! You are not merely expressing your opinion. You are taking a point of view supported by professional literature. Do not merely conduct a superficial review of the issue. Roll up your sleeves and dig deep into the issue. Immerse yourself with the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats of both sides of the issue. You must support all of your statements with citations from professional literature. While you are analyzing your issue and using your multiple professional sources, it will be important to analyze how the sources relate. If you are using only one source in a section of your paper, remember to connect the source to overarching concepts and themes you have discussed in your paper. All parts of your paper, including your sources, must be related.

Share your understanding of treaties, the Indian Act, reserve systems, and related contemporary issues.   
Directions:   
Imagine you can send a letter back in time to the first Prime Minister of Canada, John A. Macdonald, at the time of the negotiation of the Numbered Treaties, and the making of the Indian Act (1876).   
The goal of your letter is to persuade the PM to ensure that the Numbered Treaties are honoured, as they were negotiated orally, and to ensure the Indian Act doesn’t become law.  
You will use at least one example of issues with the Indian Act, and/or of the reserve system (i.e. housing crisis, boiling water crisis, poverty, cycle of dependency, education, etc.) as way to persuade him.  
You may point out what biases he may have and attempt to persuade him to consider the Indigenous perspective and consider the value of Indigenous ways of being, knowing, and doing (i.e. care of the land, learn from other cultures, unique ways to grow economy, mutually benefit).

Return to the “Developing Research Questions Assignment”.  With interview transcripts in hand, create a code book for interviews.  
Look at the ways people coded their respective interviews. See
if there is agreement on major and minor codes. Discuss the different kinds of stories each
coding scheme might tell. Cut and sort by major and minor codes looking for patterns,
relationships, further categorizations. Make note of analytical findings. Hold onto these clumps
of coded data for a future exercise.

For this assignment, you will
Present national data and trends based on the FBI’s Uniform Crime Reporting and/or the Bureau of Justice Statistics’ Data Collection: National Crime Victimization Survey (NCVS); another comparable nationally recognized database, such as The Campus Safety and Security Data Analysis Cutting Tool on the U.S. Department of Education’s The Tools You Need for Campus Safety and Security Analysis; or, for an international perspective, you may present data available at the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime’s Crime & Criminal Justice web page.
Present graphical statistical crime data for a specific category of crime from three comparably sized cities, counties, or states from three different regions of the country (e.g., Indianapolis, Austin, and San Francisco, etc. This information should be found on official government websites.)
Develop questions you would like to address based on the data you retrieved. (Note: You do not have to answer these questions for this assignment.) What crime prevention programs or initiatives are available to potentially address the crime or criminal justice issue? We have learned about organizational structures, management, and leadership. Write an essay in which you expand on the following topics:
Begin with an Introduction Paragraph that describes the purpose of the paper, which is to address management, organization, and leadership in relation to criminal justice organizations. What are the main differences between management and leadership? How do managers and leaders have different roles in criminal justice organizations, and what can their impact be?
Explain the importance of private funding. How does this affect the criminal justice agency? What could occur if an agency is unable to fund initiatives.
Identify and discuss at least two ethical issues that agencies could experience. What are some steps that agencies could implement to address ethical issues?

CONCLUSION: Every paper must include a conclusion. The Conclusion should include the heading, Conclusion, and must provide a summary of your findings as well as solutions based on best practices today (solutions you provided and validated within your paper). The Conclusion heading is centered above the paragraph.
Your essay must be submitted in MS WORD format and at least two pages in length. The title and reference pages do not count toward the page requirement. Therefore, the minimum length for the paper is four pages. Your paper must include the APA required headings (Introduction, intermediate headings, and a Conclusion); as well as the Reference heading for the Reference Section.
The word, Introduction, may be used for the introduction heading or you may use the title of the paper as the introduction. However, please remember that the title of the paper must relate directly to the subject of the assignment, not the assignment unit number. In other words, Unit III is not to be used as the title of your paper. The title may read: Organizational Structures, management, and Leadership, or something similar. The Introduction heading is centered above the starting paragraph.
Your paper must include intermediate headings that are fully left justified and must relate to the bullet points listed above. Please remember that the heading, Conclusion, is the last heading in the main body of the paper. The conclusion should provide a review of your discussion as well as a review of the applicable best practices in the criminal justice system today.
You must use at least two peer-reviewed empirical or academic sources to support your essay; at least one source should originate from the CSU Online Library. Wikipedia, news websites, and other similar sources are not considered as empirical sources. All sources used must have APA Style citations and references. There continues to be debate over the causes of violent crime within the United States. In this essay, explain the causes of violent crime in the United States using one of the theories discussed in class this week (Ch. 8 – 10). Discuss the foundations of the theory and why this theoretical explanation is the most useful for understanding violent crime in the United States. Include at least two peer-reviewed articled to defend your position and selected theoretical framework. These peer-reviewed articles can be related local, regional, or national issues and you must cite your selected articles throughout your essay.
