Research Paper
You will author one research paper written exclusively for this course. The topic under investigation must be related to the course. The format for this paper includes a title page, text, bibliography, and appendices. You will use the American Psychological Association Publication Manual as a guide; no other format is acceptable to the department. You will find electronic reference formats recommended by the APA at http://www.apa.orgLinks to an external site.. The paper should be no longer than fifteen pages (not including the title page or outline/table of contents), a basic outline as a table of contents, and a bibliography page. It is to be typed (double-spaced) with one-inch margins. The paper should sufficiently cover the topic under investigation. You will propose an outline of this research paper to the instructor in Lesson 7; your complete research paper will be due at the end of the course. Grading rubrics specific to the research paper identify levels of performance along the continuum of distinguished, proficient, limited, and unsatisfactory.

Ethical Considerations

Micro-presentation/Webinar:  Your video should include a variety of content and be approximately 6-9 minutes long.  You will be graded on your ability to meet each objective as stated above. You will not be graded on your speaking ability or proficiency with the software.

Using the following Hypothesis and “why is this important” constuct an essay following the provided instructions.  
Hypothesis: Juveniles with poor family dynamics are impacted negatively and thus more likely to commit crimes.
Why This Is Important:
The idea that juvenile delinquincy is linked to family dynamics highlights how crucial a
supportive family environment is, for juveniles actions. This viewpoint proposes that efforts to
improve family bonds might help reduce misconduct among minors. Backing this up with real
world data could lead to emphasis on measures such as family therapy and parental support
initiatives potentially decreasing rates of youth delinquency and promoting a more positive
community.

Research one California Criminal Statute that was signed into law within the last 2 years.  Again, use a Criminal Statute.  This would be a law involving criminal law, evidence, etc.  Once you have your statute provide a discussion with the following information.  What is the name of the new law.  What code section may it be found (i.e. Penal Code, Evidence Code, etc.)  What is the stated intent of the new law?  Why do you think the new law was enacted?  What groups favored its passage?  What groups opposed the law?  Was there a specific incident or reason provided by the sponsor of the new law?  Do you think the new law will address the issue for which it was passed?  Explain your reasons.  What are some of the consequences that you predict may result from this new law (intended or unintended)?  How does the new law relate to issues that you have been studying in class?  The above questions are suggestions – feel free to broaden your discussion.
