Documentary Observations/Reflection:
Observe any societal issues, including high poverty and unemployment levels, and crime rate. In addition, observe any friction between the Police and Community (if so, why?). Does legal cynicism exist (explain)? What other conditions exist?
Observe the staffing levels and calls for service of the police department (is morale low? Are the calls dangerous? Are there recruitment issues? Are officers retiring early? Is there a lack of resources? How does this impact Officer safety?
Part II. Congratulations Chief! You have just been appointed the NEW LEADER/MANAGER of the SELECTED Case Study/Police Department. It is time to be a part of the solution! Since you are new to the community, you need to do some research before you start your new role. You have just watched a documentary regarding your new community. Now it’s time to incorporate your leadership strategy to create change in your police department and the community. Consider including topics highlighted in this term:

Introduction: Overview of the episode/article. Identify some observed conditions in the community (external) and/or within the organization (internal). Feel free to explore the police department website, mission statement, and/or Facebook page. Look up the Uniform Crime Report, and the demographics (USCensus.gov) of the selected community. Describe the Police-Community Relations (positive or negative). Provide an overview of the Leadership style ( think transformational leadership, leader spotlights, leadership fundamentals) you would utilize to accomplish the mission. Demonstrate your critical thinking ability!
Body: THREE PILLARS. Are any of the President’s Task Force recommendations (6 Pillars) present and utilized by the police department? Are the strategies successful? Discuss how the organization uses or fails to use THREE Pillars of 21st Century Policing (Building Trust and Legitimacy, Policy and Oversight, Technology and Social Media, Community Policing and Crime Reduction strategies, Training and Education, and Officer Safety and Wellness) as it relates to the episode/article. For example, does the agency incorporate Pillar 4-Community Policing? Is it a success or failure? Pillar 3-what technology was observed?
Conclusion: Provide a summary of your reflection. The leadership style utilized, Pillars observed, interactions with the community, and your recommendations/strategies to enhance public safety, police-community relations and increase morale in the organization.

use empirical knowledge to produce a research paper on women’s experiences in the criminal justice system as an offender, victim, reformer, OR professional. You will need to incorporate at least 4 scientific peer-reviewed research articles into your paper to support your descriiption of women’s experiences in the criminal justice system. Your paper must be sensitive to how intersectionality influences women’s experience between them and their counterparts. You should discuss variance in women’s experiences in the role you selected to explore by at least 2 demographic characteristics (e.g., race, age, income).

For this paper, you must have an introduction paragraph that clearly states the population that you are researching, the reason why this population was selected and a thesis for the paper. An example thesis would be: In this paper, we will discuss queer black women’s experiences as police officers.

The body of your paper must consist of a descriiption of this populations’ experience in the criminal justice, as stated in empirical research, as well as comparisons to the experienced of their counterparts (i.e., populations that vary from your selected population).

For the most part, Criminal Gangs and Drug-Related Crimes go hand in hand.  One cannot investigate one without investigating the other. There is a lot of resources to review and videos to watch in the Module that will help you understand the main gang threats in the US. The objective of this assignment is to explore the relationship between drug-related crimes and gangs. 
Your task for this assignment is to create a gang profile of a notorious gang of your choice. Select a Street Gang, Prison Gang, or Outlaw Motorcycle Gang that you would like to study. To help you get started, here is a recent list of the existing gangs in Massachusetts Gangs in MassachusettsLinks to an external site. .  (Your selection is not limited to Massachusetts, so feel free to pick another gang that operates within the United States.) Once you have selected your gang, quickly review and then define what constitutes drug-related crimes.  
Now for this assignment,  I want you develop a gang profile similar to this one:  Gangster Disciples.     Do a full work-up of your gang (like an investigator would do).   Create a table of organization ( Smart Art in Word, Google Docs, or even PowerPoint if you wish).  Find and document pictures of their logos, symbols, patches, and other identifiers.  Gather information about their illegal and legal (partially legal) businesses and explain their criminal activities with a particular focus on drug distribution, manufacturing, and trafficking. Discuss their suspected law enforcement and criminal connections. Make a list of supporters outside the gang and compile a list of crimes that your gang is or has an alleged involvement in. Conduct another search of any recent cases for which your gang has been charged in or found guilty of in the past 3 years. Identify their primary source of income.
This is a big project so plan accordingly. Be creative and thorough.  There is a lot of available information out there, so read and research. 
When you think that you have a full understanding of your gang’s organizational network, put it all together in a formal report.  Include a title page and reference page with your profile and upload into Canvas.

You will author one research paper written exclusively for this course. The topic under investigation must be related to the course. The format for this paper includes a title page, text, bibliography, and appendices. You will use the American Psychological Association Publication Manual as a guide; no other format is acceptable to the department.
