  • Title: Program and Community Context for Mock Program Evaluation Plan

For this first milestone, due in Module Two, you will summarize the program and community that you chose to focus on for your final project. You should describe the program in terms of the theoretical basis and evidence base for program effectiveness. Community needs will be described in terms of socio-demographic characteristics, the distribution of the health issue, and disparities and social determinants that impact risk and health outcomes. The purpose of this activity is to provide the program and community context for your final project, the mock program evaluation plan.
    Prompt
First, provide an overview of the selected program and the public health issue targeted by the program. Next, you will research the community characteristics and health needs that will be addressed by the program. Include a review of the theoretical basis for the program and available scholarly evidence in support of the program effectiveness. See the critical elements below for an outline of the questions you should answer in this milestone paper.
The following critical elements must be addressed:
    Introduction:
Describe the CDC program and community selected for the evaluation and the public health issue addressed by the program.
Describe the “logic model” for your program components. (Refer to the CDC evaluation guide for examples of written and visual descriptions of the relationships among program components.)
Identify community stakeholders for this program evaluation.
Provide an overview of the public health issue targeted by the program using current published literature. Support your response with any relevant programs, evaluations, campaigns, and/or studies that have addressed your selected issue. This should include community socio-demographic characteristics, target populations, and description of the distribution of the targeted health conditions in this community.
Discuss what you are hoping to accomplish or determine by conducting an evaluation of the selected program and what audience(s) this evaluation would be most relevant for.
Develop goals for conducting your evaluation. Justify the appropriateness and relevance of your goals using current published literature.
Explain the social theories or health behavior models that apply to this program model.
Describe how health disparities will impact the conduct of this program evaluation.
Describe how social determinants of health in the selected community will impact the conduct of this program evaluation.
    Be sure to:
Use federal, state, and local health department resources to specify the socio-demographic and health distribution characteristics for the chosen community.
Reference scholarly resources to support the theoretical basis of the program and the evidence base on the program effectiveness.
Describe how social determinants and disparities impact this health topic. Include risk and protective factors related to the distribution of the health condition in the population.
Incorporate instructor feedback on this milestone into your final project submission.
    What to Submit
Milestone One should be submitted as a 3- to 5-page Word document, with double-spacing, 12-point Times New Roman font, one-inch margins, and the latest edition of the APA manual for formatting and citations. You should expect to have a minimum of 3 sources cited. (Note: To meet “Exemplary” criteria for this critical element in the final project grading rubric, you will need to include 4–8 sources.) The resources should be a combination of governmental citations related to community characteristics and scholarly resources related to the program and health condition.

  • Reflecting on Decision Making in Small Groups Title: Reflecting on Decision Making in Small Groups

    VERVIEW:
The goal of this assignment is to reflect back on the ways in which you have made group decisions in the past in the various groups that you are a part of in your life. We rarely take the time to think about the ways in which we make decisions and how these decisions might have been improved by a different decision making process. In Chapters 9-10, your textbook discusses many different decision making processes (i.e., majority vote, leader-led with consultation, etc.). I want you to think about situations where you have used these and how the final decision resulted in either a successful decision or one that you thought was the poor choice.
    ESSAY STRUCTURE & DELIVERABLES
    Formatting:
800 words (2-3 pages double spaced)
    1-inch margins
    Times New Roman font
    12 pt. font
    Double-spaced
    Word count in the heading
Please bold key terms in the paper
Use paragraphs. Every new idea/3-5 sentences should have a new paragraph with it.
    Content, please include the following:
A brief introductory paragraph that previews and summarizes your main ideas
    2. A description of your “go-to” decision making strategies. In this section of the paper, I want you to describe 1-2 decision making strategies in a small group that you are (or were) a part of. Please do not use your taskforce as an example because your third reflection paper will ask you about your group work for this class. Briefly describe the group and then discuss how you utilized a specific decision making strategy. For example, you might have used majority vote to decide where to eat with your friends last weekend, but you need to provide how, where, when, and what did it look like to decide by majority vote. Be detailed.
    3. Evaluation of your decision making strategies. Discuss how the strategies you just mentioned have benefitted or harmed your small group and decision making in small groups. Were these approaches successful? In this section, I want you to discuss an additional approach that would (or could have) been a better way to make the decision in your small group and WHY. This section should be an analysis and not a description. Why did one strategy not work? What are the constraints of these different strategies and how have you experienced that?
    4. Conclusion. In the last paragraph, identify one strategy that you haven’t used much, but that you think will be an effective strategy moving forward in your small groups.
Please put all key terms from the course in BOLD so that I can see where you are referencing course material. Do not put your name on the paper as I will grade it anonymously.

  • Title: Understanding Personal Social Interactions through Social Exchange Theory

Theory: Choose a theory that has been covered in class. In addition, read and cite at least one primary, academic source that helps you understand the theory.
Application: Describe a personal social interaction and analyze it with the chosen theory.
To write an effective reflection paper, consider the following structure:
    a.     Introduction: Use an attention getter and indicate why you choose the theory (5 points).
    b.     Describe the theory fully. Show your understanding by identifying the major concepts, relationships among the concepts, and the critique of the theory (10 points). Besides the textbook, use at least two more primary sources.
    c.     Describe your personal episode (10 points). Use a good storytelling technique to describe it. Use sufficient information (e.g., relational background, essential topic, conversations between the partners, consequences, etc.). This can be an ongoing issue, or an episodic issue.
    d.     Critically apply the theory to the understanding of the episode (10 points). Clearly identify what concepts or principles of the theory are demonstrated through what speech or behavior as described in the episode.
    e.     Provide the moral of the story: What have you learned or realized through this application? What will you do in similar future situations (5 points)?
    f.      Overall writing quality and APA style (10 point). The Writing Center’s service is free. It is highly recommended even for best writers. A paper will be automatically lowered to a “B-” if the paper does not use the APA style.
    g.     Page limit: 6-12, double spaced, excluding the front and back matters.
The written work policies, a sample self-reflection paper, and a sample generic APA paper are found on Blackboard.
