SELF-SELECTED
PROJECT: LITERATURE CRITIQUE on
Legacy: What the all
blacks can teach us about the business of life by J, Kerr.
OVERVIEW
There is a plethora of change
literature in the marketplace today. Some works explore change from a personal or psychological perspective. Others
describe change via experience or present a blueprint of how change should be implemented in
organizations today. Of course, some combine elements from all of these to address change. One
thing is certain – there is much to be gleaned from the expertise and experience of others,
especially those who have been successful in today’s volatile business environment. By critiquing a
noteworthy book on change, the project will help you glean these lessons while also seeing how such
ideas compare and contrast with other thoughts on change in the literature.
INSTRUCTIONS
The student will prepare a
literature critique of a book of the student’s choice For this option, the
student will read and analyze a book that explores organizational change. The
book must be substantive and be directly related to organizational change. The
book can reflect theory (e.g. Lewin), practice (e.g. Peter Drucker’s Managing
in a Time of Great Change) or be biographical/descriptive (Howard Schultz’
Onward).
• The student will develop a 6–7-page critique of this text
[plus a title page, abstract, and
reference page(s)] evaluating the content in light of
personal experience, current research, the course texts, as well as the Christian worldview.
• The paper will
require a title page, abstract, and reference page.
• A minimum of 8
scholarly references, all course texts, and the Bible must be included.
The critique will adhere to the following outline:
• Title page
• Abstract
• Body (6–7 pages)
Introduction of the
paper [2-3 paragraphs – provide a high-level overview of
the paper (please use the title of the paper as your
“introduction heading”)]
Section 1: Summary of
the Text (no more than 1–2 pages). This is a high-
level, summarized overview of the book. Who is the author?
What’s at the
heart of the book? How does the book support organizational
change? What
are the key points?
Section 2: Content
Evaluation – Compare and contrast the central tenets of
the book with personal experience, current research, the
course texts, and
biblical wisdom.

You are required to read the trade paperback, THINK AGAIN: The Power of Knowing What You Don’t Know by
Adam Grant. Then, answer the questions below integrating an application of the author’s perspective, the
textbook, and your personal vision on management. The eight questions will comprise minimally 2000 words
(Note: If your paper is less than 2000 words you will receive an automatic reduction in points relative to your
submission.) Your responses to below questions need to integrate the language and theories of the course.
Additionally, you are required to quote from each book, THINK AGAIN: The Power of Knowing What You Don’t
Know and Essentials of Contemporary Management, 9th edition, for each question with a full sentence using
an exact quote. There are 16 TWO Full sentence quotes (8 from Grant and 8 from the text) that will need to
span the books from at least 8 different chapters from both books. The value of each TWO full sentence
quote is 18 points if it is supported with APA citations (Author, Title, Edition, Year, and Page) and it supports
your response. Partially quoted sentences or quotes with no citations earn zero points. Expect to earn zero
points, if you use a different book from the required textbook or Think Again and quotes cannot be found with
page numbers provided in citations.
Here is an example of APA for our textbook: Use quotation marks to identify the full sentence quotes.
Then, follow with the source. (Jones/George, Essentials of Contemporary Management, 7e, p.243). Use the
same format for Think Again.
Submit your work by attaching a file in the course under Chapter 11. If your file will not open, it is unreadable,
or the wrong paper, it will be marked “0”. There are no do overs. Ask in advance for help or clarity. A deduction
of half points if question responses are not numbered and in order. Points will be awarded when they relate to the
question and chapter of textbook. You may email this work in an attachment only if there is a technical problem
with D2L at the time it is due. NO late work accepted. Do your own work. Plagiarism Detection Software is being
used in the course. Use APA citations. If 25% or more of your paper is from other sources, then it is not authentic,
and there will be a significant reduction in points. If citations are not used correctly, you have plagiarized. Writing

“Leading Organizational Change: A Case Study Analysis and Recommendations for Success” Title: Final Project Paper Requirements and Guidelines
You are required to complete a final project paper on leading organizational change. In this course, you will have learned that making sense of change management and leading an organization through a successful initiative is challenging. To succeed, you must have a strong understanding of the role you play as a leader, build a strong change plan that incorporates appropriate change models, create clear connections to your vision, and use tools that can work even in organizations dealing with complex change initiatives.
Select a change effort from an organization that you have worked with in the past, currently work for, or select an organization with which you are familiar and can easily research. This can be a change effort that you feel was successful, simply average, or that was unsuccessful. You will spend all semester building this final paper. You are required to submit your topic selection to the mentor for approval.
GUIDELINES
Develop your analysis using the five following sections:
Section 1: Introduction and situational analysis: Describe your topic and the importance of the topic, giving appropriate background information. This is also where you do your situational analysis – identifying factors related to the thesis statement, and any other aspects of the situation that you believe are crucial to creating a foundation for the body of the research paper.
Section 2: Analysis using change theory: Consider the theories that are appropriate to the thesis statement/topic you defined. Use those theories to analyze the situation you have defined and create a clear foundation for your view of the situation. Your opinions are important and useful, but not sufficient to make a case for a specific course of action. The theory, models, and concepts that you find in your readings are what you must use to create a valid argument for your suggested course of action.
Be sure to explain:
How leadership’s vision, role, and style influenced the change effort at the individual, group, and organizational level;
How the change effort was planned (or not planned well) and, if appropriate, what could have been done to improve planning; and
The challenges experienced from restructuring the organization and dealing with resistance to change.
This part of the paper should have the most depth and length. This is where you show your ability to apply the material from our course. This project is ultimately about proving your growing skill at applying the material. Keep this in mind as you write. One of the biggest mistakes often found in these papers is a poorly written section two. The primary reason for a poorly written section in a research paper is a lack of depth and connection to the material studied in the course. Develop your ideas in a systematic and clearly articulated stream of thought. Use paragraphs to build your ideas and add depth to your views.
Section 3: Recommendations. Up to now, you have been analyzing and comparing options. Here is where you pull together the different threads of your analysis and determine a course of action. Make recommendations about what the company should do in the future and what change tools and models would facilitate change. Make sure your justifications clearly flow from your analysis.
Report Specifications:
Follow these guidelines when researching and writing your paper:
Include a title page with your name, submission date, course name and number, and the title of your paper.
Label the three sections described above.
The final project paper should be 8-10 pages in length (not including the cover page and references) and include 6-10 academic references, properly cited in APA format.
The paper should be double-spaced and in APA format, 12-point font, with 1-inch margins.
Ensure you include a clear introduction.
In the body of your paper, be sure to fully cover the topics listed above.
Ensure you also include a strong summary or conclusion.
Your paper should be well organized and logical, display proper grammar, spelling, and mechanics, and represent original work.
If you have questions about the requirements of the final project paper, be sure to discuss them with your mentor well in advance of the final submission. Consult the Course Calendar for due dates. -
