  • “The Psychology and Purpose of Hazing: Examining its Effects and Potential for Positive Change”

    ESSAY #3:  Research Project
    Length: 10 pages
Format:  typed, double-spaced, 10-12 point font, 1-inch margins
This is the big one.  This is your opportunity to research a topic of your choice and present your results in a polished, professional, and engaging essay.  Your project should evolve out of the exploratory essay you have already written (with rare exceptions), and it should reflect weeks of reflection, research, writing, and revision.  Think of it as the culmination of your first year of college writing.
While you should choose a topic related to our course theme (Work & Play), it is still relatively easy to tailor the project to your own specific interests.  Interested in a specific career?  Investigate it: what does it entail? How has it evolved?  How must it adapt in the 21st Century?
What specific challenges interest (or plague) those who are involved in this field?  What potential solutions exist?  Or perhaps you might want to analyze a work-play or leisure-related issue that’s “closer to home”:  identify an existing problem in higher education today—explain the causes, offer a solution. As long as you define and focus a clear project with identifiable avenues of research, I encourage you to bring your interests to this assignment.
Think of this project as a way for you to explore a potential field of interest, a way to enter into a conversation in which professionals involved in that field are already engaged.  It needs to move beyond a “report-type” project (in which you simply list or compile information); your researched essay will require you to employ analysis and critical thinking skills as you encounter, synthesize, and question your sources. Then think about the ways that you, as a writer, can illuminate this topic for those of us who may not know much about it.
A key component of this project is your ability to locate, read, and evaluate outside sources as you think about your topic (a minimum of five sources).  Interviews with relevant individuals are appropriate (even desired) as potential source material.  As you write your essay, you should be able to effectively incorporate these ideas into your paper.  I do not want you to drop quotations or paraphrases into the essay simply because they are required; it does not take a lot of thought to string a handful of outside sources together.  The purpose of researching and incorporating the material into your own writing is to demonstrate your ability to take part in academic discourse, to participate in an ongoing scholarly discussion.
Ultimately, I want you to walk away from this project with a much deeper understanding of a complex situation related to the course themes.  Because we will be sharing our insights with each other as a class, we will also benefit from each other’s newfound “expertise.”
My Essay will focus on the idea of hazing. The main question will be what are the intentions of hazing? To what extent is hazing beneficial? It will also compare hazing to other examples of barriers to entry or trials and rituals. Essientially, the essay will examine modern hazing at various schools and discuss the psychology of it before explaining how hazing can be made more beneficial.

  • Title: Nurturing Early Life Development: The Importance of Goodness of Fit and Healthy Attachment

In this chapter you learned about the early years of parenting a child and how these early years of parenting impact their development. In this chapters activity I want you to think about early life development and what helps a baby to begin developing normally and healthily.
I have attached photos of Chapter 6 to help you answer these questions.
    1. What does the term Goodness of Fit mean? What would be an example of a “Goodness of Fit” problem for an infant or toddler in the first 2 years of their life?
    2. Based on the readings and your experience what helps a baby develop a healthy attachment style? And what kind of dynamics in the family or child’s life impacts healthy psychological development?

  • “Exploring Career Development and Counseling: A Commentary and Reflection on Chapters 1-4”

After reading the assigned chapters, write a commentary and reflection paper on the chapters. The paper is to discuss the major topics, theories, instruments, etc. discussed in the chapters.
Additionally, reflect on how you would use this information in the workforce as the Human Resource Director in an organization. You must utilize the textbook and a minimum of two additional peer-reviewed scholarly sources.
I need to have a running head and page numbers as well
I will add the book pages later.

  • Title: “The Impact of In Utero Development on a Baby’s Health and Well-Being”

In this Chapter you learned about the developmental process in utero and the different things that can help a baby develop properly or drastically impact healthy development. In this chapters activity I want to think about the in utero development process and what helps babies to develop properly while they are in their mothers womb.
I have attached photos of Chapter 3 to help you answer these questions!
    1. What are some other teratogens that can effect a babies development while it is in the womb?
    2. What are some of the stressors that a pregnant woman can experience during her pregnancy?
    3. If a baby is blue or pale when it is born how would that effect its Apgar Score?

  • “Surviving the Unexpected: My Experience with Fight, Flight, or Freeze and Its Neuroscientific Implications”

Discussion post on Fight, Flight or Freeze. We are to name a time when we experienced this and how it relates to neuroscience. See instructions. A time that I did experience this feeling was when i was hit by a car suddenly not even knowing wheni was rear-ended i would hit the car in fornt of me.  Hopefully this helps.  Using the book by Bessel Van Der Kolk, M.D.The Body Keeps The Score.  Adding one scholarly article. for reference as well.

  • “Join Our Group: A Brochure to Attract New Members”

    Assessment Description
In many instances, it may be necessary to advertise your group as a method to draw in new members. For this assignment, you need to develop a trifold brochure  that will “sell” your group as indicated in Group Design Part One to the public. Include the following in your trifold brochure:
    •    Topic or focus of the group
    •    Group meeting details (location, time, dates, length of sessions, etc.)
    •    Client characteristics that are specific to the group. For example, how will someone reading the brochure know who would benefit or fit in the group?
    •    Duration of treatment
    •    Overall goals of the group
Please note that if any scholarly sources are used for this assignment, include in-text citations and a reference section in APA format at the end of the brochure.
The brochure should be written to apply to a wide variety of people as it should be available in various locations around your community (e.g., schools, doctor’s offices, human services offices, restaurants, agencies serving the population of the group). Complete this assignment in Microsoft Word.
To design your brochure, use the templates in Microsoft Office Publisher or any alternative word processing program. If you do not have these programs, you can use the online template resources on the Word Automation website. Omit/delete items on templates that do not pertain to assignment criterion. Keep in mind that only .doc, .docx, .eps, .htm, .pdf, .rtf, .txt, or .wpd files are accepted, with file size not to exceed 10 MB.
While APA style is not required for the body of this assignment, solid academic writing is expected, and in-text citations and references should be presented using APA documentation guideline

  • Title: Data Collection using Behavior Assessment: Duration and Latency Recording

you will be practicing some data collection procedures using videos of problem behaviors. First, review the Behavior Assessment: Duration and Latency Recording activity. You may choose to print out the recording forms provided in the activity (pages 4 and 5) or create your own using a similar format. Be sure to review the operational definition of the target behavior provided on each form. Then, watch the Behavior: Duration and Latency Recording and collect duration data on the target behavior defined on the Duration Recording Form. Finally, you will view the video once again, and collect latency data on the target behavior defined on the Latency Recording Form.
    Please respond to the following:
Discuss the findings of your data collection experience. What was the total duration of time off task and calculate the percentage of time off task for this session? What was the average latency recorded for this student to begin working independently following a teacher instruction?
Based on your observation and data, how would you report the intensity or magnitude of this student’s off-task behavior?
Explain how the operational definition provided contributed to your observation and data recording experience.
Is there anything that could have made the definition more clear for observation purposes?
What challenges did you have with measuring the duration and/or latency of these target behaviors?
How might you alleviate similar challenges in the future?
