Title: Self-Awareness, Social Work, and Sociology: Exploring the Intersection of Personal Values, Professional Ethics, and Social Problems
REFELCTION PAPER
Self-Awareness, Social Work and Sociology
Self-awareness means recognition of our personality, strengths and weaknesses and likes and dislikes. As a social worker, self-awareness is an essential element to prepare oneself to encounter the clients’ personal matter, their attitudes, thoughts, etc. Our past experiences, social norms, values from the others, characteristics, prejudices or stereotypes shape. Knowing how your past experiences influence your own values helps you to be more aware of your own self.
As a sociologist and a social worker, using a sociological imagination allows us to stand apart mentally from our limited experience and see the link between private concerns and social issues; this allows you to reflect and theorize about the social and environmental causes of human suffering.

Title: Conflict Mediation Plan for Thunder Farms and Brewery: Addressing the Conflict between the Manager of the Wedding Venue and the CEO’s Son Part I: Conflict Mediation Presentation Hello and welcome to the Conflict Mediation Presentation for Thunder Farms
record a video showcasing your conflict meditation plan/presentation for the CEO of Thunder Farms and Brewery. The conflict mediation presentation needs to address how to handle a conflict between the manager of the wedding venue and the CEO’s son, who is the wedding photographer. There are several tools and options for creating a presentation and recording. Canva has a “present and record” feature, while Screencast-O-Matic and Zoom allow you to record the computer screen. Options for the presentation include: Beautiful.AI, Canva, PowToon, and Powerpoint. Options for recording the video include: Loom, Screencast-O-Matic, Canva, and Zoom.
Situation: A local reporter just published a story concerning the wedding venue at the Thunder Farm and Brewery: A Wedding Destroyed! The wedding of Jane and John Smith was celebrated in a hospital room, instead of at a wedding venue. Causing lifelong emotional turmoil for the couple on what should have been the happiest day of their lives. While the happy couple are happy that the groom’s mother only suffered minor injuries, they lost thousands of dollars and the ability to celebrate their love with friends and family due to negligence and greed. The crisis could have been avoided with a minor renovation to the venue and the removal of the haystacks. While the DJ played the song that was meant to be their first dance, they watched in horror as the groom’s mother, who is visually impaired, stumbled and fell. We ask, why in this day in age, are businesses unwilling to provide equal access for all.
As the IO you have been asked to prepare for conflict mediation between the CEO, the CEO’s son, and the manager of the wedding venue, who the CEO has blamed and reprimanded for the incident. You know that the manger had previously recommended updates to The Yard that would have included using the haystacks as a backdrop but removing them for the perimeter of the outdoor venue, however the CEO’s son (the photographer) liked the look, and the renovation was deemed unnecessary. Several employees have complained about the CEO son’s overstepping his role and impacting their ability to do their jobs effectively. This situation has highlighted that situation and many of the managers are watching to see how the situation is handled. Cancellations have also impacted the other businesses within the organization. The manager of the wedding venue is a respected member of the community and could turn it around. Losing her is not an option.
Part I: Conflict Mediation Presentation
When preparing for the Conflict Meditation, address the following:
Give a brief summary of the case study and outline recommend steps for conflict management based on the situation using a visual representation.
Explain how or whether the mediator’s personal behavior style helps or hinders the formal mediation process and the recommended steps for resolution.
You will need to review the ADA-2-Title III – A Self Advocacy Guide to address positions the CEO have based on their discussion with the HR and their lawyers as they seek to find loopholes that protect the company from lawsuits.
As an IO you will not be part of the legal team, but you will be asked to be well-versed in a wide variety of topics to address how the company can find meaningful solutions and move forward with all parties on the same page and unified. Anticipate how other business have handled the situation, what is best of the organization, how to address the emotions of all parties involved, since family members are involved. You will also need to review the website and determine if additional steps need to be taken to ensure the safety of the guest. Use three to five scholarly resources to support your findings.
Part II: Conflict Resolution Form
Directions: Research and design a formal conflict mediation form based on one of the following perspectives: request for mediation, agreement to mediate, or mediation preparation. -

“The Evolution of Western Civilization: Exploring Key Events and Themes from 3500 BCE to 1600 CE”
First and foremost the essay is required to be of from five to seven pages (double-spaced) in length. You are welcome to use any secondary sources out there including the textbooks, but you all most use at least one primary source. What that means is you can choose any topic(within reason) and write about it. You can choose something in antiquity including (but not exclusively) the Greeks, the Romans, the Hebrews, the Egyptians and so on, or something more recent such as the Black Plaque (my favorite), the Crusades, the Moors conquest of North Africa, the Iberian Peninsula, the Eastern Mediterranean and southeastern Europe, the Renaissance and so much more. Whatever topic strikes your individual fancies is fine by me, but above all else, all of you must communicate with me and obtain my permission to run with it. You of course can go into the European conquest (really) of the Americas and western Africa. That of course means anew kind of slavery that was built strictly on racism and the subsequent exploitation of those west African inhabitants.
Of course, some students may have an interest in the establishment of the three mono theistic religions culminating with the introduction of Islam in the 7th Century. I do caution anyone who chooses such a topic that I do not want to see any sort of preaching about any of the religions and your respective adherence to that faith. Just tell a story as to how they came about and leave the embracing of that faith as a private matter between yourselves and the faith. By the way, keep in mind that the Jesuits have maintained for centuries that the Bible is a work of didactic fiction. What one’s beliefs are private and not open for discussion.
Students choose their topic from the readings and the time frame of approximately 3500 BCE until about 1600 CE. The essay’s length is from 5-7 double-spaced pages with the appropriate citations. You must choose from the “Perspectives” book one original source document as the basis for the subject you need to write about and then use as many legitimate internet sources that you would need to complete the assignment.
The textbook is Perspectives from the Past: Primary Sources in Western Civilizations (Volume 1)
