This week I want you to draft a memo to your employees. The reading this week discussed planning and researching as well as writing reports and proposals. We are going to apply this knowledge to budget preparation. Please read chapter 1 and 2 in Budgeting Basics and Beyond. These 2 chapters will give you a great foundation as to what makes a good budget. For this assignment, please assume that you are a manager in the company of your choosing. You need your staff to help you gather the information that you need to create the budget that will be presented to executives for approval. This link will assist you in formatting your memo. I do not expect you to submit an actual budget to me, this is an exercise in providing good instruction to your employees. The better your instructions, the more accurate their response. Please keep in mind that in providing good instruction, you will also need to provide some background information as to what you will be using this information for and why. Provide APA formatted citations for any information that you use from any sources. Please submit your response in a Word document attached to this assignment. Reference Page in APA style.

Purpose: The purpose of this assignment is to introduce Mills’ Sociological Imagination as well as to describe a personal situation that you select to serve as the main topic of the Sociological Imagination essay that you will submit in week 10. The topic is left to your discretion and is preferably a situation that stands out in your life, or about which you can write 4-6 pages.

“Preparation for the Worlds Together, Worlds Apart Oral Final Exam: Focusing on Key Chapters and Examples”
The oral final exam will be based on your ability to respond to the “focus questions” at the beginning of two (2) chapters of Worlds Together, Worlds Apart of your choice. In advance, I advise you to prepare answers to the focus questions in the chapters that most interest you: you should have specific examples that you can use to answer the questions. Thus, for instance, if you were to answer a question about the “ways the Mongol Empire influenced peoples and places in Eurasia” in Chapter 10, be prepared to thoroughly explain examples like the Mongols in China or the Mongols in the Abbasid Baghdad.

DIRECTIONS FROM PROFESSOR:
Results (Point Value: 35)
v Univariate Analyses: Present and interpret frequency distributions and descriptive statistics.
Regarding descriptive statistics, discuss the appropriate measures of central tendency and
variability of your dependent, independent, and control variables (i.e. means, medians, modes,
minimum and maximum values, skewness, standard deviations, and IQVs). Describe if the
variables follow a bimodal, normal or skewed distribution. Describe box plots, histograms,
pie charts, and/or bar charts to illustrate the results (one graph per variable).

4
differences between groups that are statistically significant. Discuss whether you reject or

offering thoughts about the reliability and validity of your findings, relating your findings to
existing studies, and/or noting the larger ramifications of your findings.
CONCLUSION:
v Present a short summary of your major findings and insights with regard to your original
research question and hypotheses. Where your hypothesis supported or rejected?

“Utopia: A World of Equality, Prosperity, and Harmony” Introduction: Welcome to Utopia, a world unlike any other. In this utopian society, all citizens live in peace and harmony, free from the problems and injust
A PERFECT WORLD
FINAL PROJECT
For this Final Project, you will be creating a utopia. Consider real world problems and try to solve them. Consider all of the dystopian fictions we have looked at and try to avoid those mistakes. How can you do better? What are the most important aspects of building a society? Is it a place without hunger, suffering or want? Is it a place of equality, fulfillment and productivity? Be careful of unintended consequences. You really have to think it through. Remember, some of the worst places in the 20th century (Nazi Germany, Stalin’s Soviet Union) were someone’s idea of a utopia.
1. Your utopia must include these two things:
Discussion of a political system
Discussion of an economic system
You will also discuss how these systems will not be used for injustice. How will you ensure they will work well for everyone? You must employ persuasive techniques to show that your approach will not replicate the problems already seen in these systems.
2. Your utopia must select one contemporary problem and show how it is solved in your world (not just say it is solved-create the solution).
3. Your project will discuss at least 3 aspects of society from the list below:
Education
Natural resources
Family life
Health
Wealth and Poverty
Spirituality
Jobs
Personal Freedoms
Housing
Urban Planning
Law and Order
The Arts
Technology
Population Control
Aging and Death
Sex and Gender
Equality
YOUR ESSAY:
You will discuss a minimum of 6 aspects of your utopia (political, economic, solution to a current problem and three socials of your choice).
Consider place and time: will your utopia be the whole world, off-world, a country, a small territory? Your utopia can be in the present and the future- but it cannot be in the past.
You will have an introduction in which you describe your world in specific terms-what it looks like, how its citizens are content, and how your utopia will succeed.
You will name and visualize your utopia. Your utopia will have a motto.
The project will use MLA formatting.
Some research is required to help you form your utopia (think about using research when addressing your contemporary problem, or when covering your political or economic systems).
Remember to cite all information you do not invent.
This Final Project requires a minimum of 4 outside sources.
