Here’s what you need to do for this assignment:
So far in this project, you have gathered information from the Internet, unpacked and examined a variety of variables, and interviewed stakeholders. The next step is to supplement your informal research with formal academic research. This means that you will be searching for information about your topic. Now, those of you working on sustainable business will search for related topics, and those working on your own topic will search for academic articles related to your topic. Please reach out to me if you need more guidance about what keywords to use to conduct your search. Sometimes you need to get creative to find relevant sources.
Step 1: For this step, you must conduct a brief but formal literature review. This review should utilize resources from different disciplines as much as possible.
This means that you must utilize UCF’s academic databases to find a minimum of 3 academic sources related to your topic.
You can find the database search engine by going to UCF Library homepage. Be sure that you filter your results using the filters on the left of screen. Select “peer-reviewed” “academic journals” in order to get proper academic sources.
Step 2: Do the following for EACH of the formal resources:
Annotate pdf versions of each article. This means that you must download, read, and make notes, highlights and comments about the concepts and ideas presented in the article. Each article must have a minimum of 5 comments throughout. (If you cannot do this step, you can submit screenshots of the relevant sections with your comments, or you can copy and paste sections of the article to a Word doc and add your comments there. Make sure you include page numbers for the quotes that you use.)
Upload all of the annotated papers to your Google research doc (the one with your interviews). Your comments should be a response to ideas presented in the article and not just a repeat of what the article is saying. Your comments should be substantive. You can challenge, reinforce, and compare to another article, for example.
Provide full citations (APA). You must use a formal academic citation style. YOU WILL LOSE POINTS IF THIS PORTION IS NOT DONE CORRECTLY!
Provide a brief summary (do NOT simply copy and paste the abstract!!! Make sure it is in your own words!)
Provide a sentence or two that highlights the most important insights relevant to your topic.
To annotate a pdf, I recommend that you use Adobe Acrobat Reader (download here for freeLinks to an external site.). Open your pdf in this program and use the “comment” tools to highlight and make comments. Save the pdfs with your annotations and upload the annotated versions to the assignment. You may, however, do this in any manner you like. You can even just copy and paste the quotes (with the page number) to a Word doc and then add your comments.
Step 3: Identify the disciplinary perspective of the article.
Step 4: From your textbook An Introduction to Interdisciplinary Research, Chapters 3 and 4, and Part 2 identify which disciplines you are utilizing in your research, and how this project in some way emulates the IDS process outlined. Use proper quotes with page numbers.
I have attached a worksheet to help you organize the research in this assignment and also the chapters 3 and 4 that are needed to help in step 3.
My topic is Coping with Traumatic Events here is the website for the article in case you need it https://www.nimh.nih.gov/health/topics/coping-with-traumatic-events
