During Week 1 students learned about 7 major
theoretical perspectives that are essential for understanding people and
effectively working with them. For the Week 1 assignment, students were
asked to choose 1 of the 7 theoretical perspectives to explain how their
own personal development experience might impact their future work with
clients. For this assignment, students will explain how theoretical
perspectives helped them to better understand and engage with clients from
the case scenarios used throughout the class.
Students may use this outline for the paper. Reasonable
modifications to the outline are acceptable.

  • “Exploring the Power of Faith and Hope: An Informative Study”

This unit involves learning how to research and write an informative Work
Although informative writing does not share personal stories or opinions, most writers enjoy researching and writing about topics that interest them. If you look back at your narrative work you will see that several potential Informative topics are related to the story you told in that work. The worksheet below will help you review your narrative work so that you can identify some potential topics for your informative work
    What is Informative Writing?
Informative writing explains, informs, and describes.
Informative writing does not share personal stories or personal opinions.
    It shares information objectively.
Your job as a writer is to educate yourself with accurate and reliable information and then share that information in your work
You are probably already familiar with informative writing. It is all around us every day.
    Think of:
instruction sheets or how-to guides, like this one on lawn management in Oklahoma City,
articles that explain concepts like Sustainable Agriculture,
information about programs like conversation efforts at the Oklahoma City Zoo, or
informative news articles like this one: 76-days Under Water, Florida Professor Breaks World Record for Science.
    INSTRUCTION 2

Step One: Complete the “Informative work Topic Planning Worksheet.” You do not have to submit the worksheet but you will need to complete it to prepare for this activity.
Step Two: Follow the prompt below to complete this activity. Numbering the items in your post will help your classmates and your instructor. You can also copy and paste the writing prompt into your initial post.
List your thesis statement from your narrative work
List two or three of the research questions from your worksheet.
    For example:
What are the main causes of air pollution?
How does music therapy help people?
How does the Electoral College work?
Select one of the questions from #2 that you think you would like to learn the answer to and copy that question here. (The answer to the question will be the information you research and write about in your informative work)
Remember, this question must be something that you can find articles on in the OCCC library databases (Refer to Lesson 3).
Use the instructions above and write informative work on the topic “FAITH AND HOPE”.

5.Below the right hand panel there is a yellow colored ruler, Click on it and drag it to the spring so that it is vertical . Make sure the zero reading on the ruler is aligned with the tip of the spring.
    6. Click on the Orange colored cylinder reading 50 grams and drag it to the tip of the spring so that it hangs on the spring.
    7. The Spring will stretch. The extended length is the reading on the meter rule corresponding to the point the end of the spring is at on the rule. Record this reading .
    8. Increase the mass of the orange cylinder to 70g and note the extension. ( The masses should be 50,70,90,110,130,150,170,190,210,230,250,270,300)
    9. Repeat this until you reach 300g.
    10. Remove the orange cylinder and hang the Blue cylinder and record the extension. Also do the same to the red cylinder.
Make a table on paper to resemble the one below
Record the rsults obtained below . This and anyother below are required to be posted into the assignments.
This table should be pasted in your submission
Extension due to Blue Cylinder = Extension due to red cylinder =
    1. Plot the graph of the mass in Kilograms (Vertical) versus the the extension in Meters (Horizontal)
    2. Find the slope of the graph 3. Find the equation of the straight line obtained. The equation should be n Mass = slope of straight line multiplied by extension + a constant if any.
    4. Using the equation of the line what are the masses of the Blue and red cylinders.

  • The Advantages and Disadvantages of Problem-Based Learning: A Study of its Success as a Method of Teaching and Learning at University Evaluating the Suitability of Lectures and TED Talks for Academic Purposes: A PROMPT Analysis Introduction In today’s digital age, lectures and TED talks have become increasingly popular as sources of information and knowledge. Both formats offer a

You are going to write a research report to address the following research question:
What are the advantages and disadvantages of problem-based learning and to what extent is it successful as a method of teaching and learning at university?
The report must include the following sections (word counts are a guide and are approximate):
    –       Abstract (100 – 150 words)
    –       Introduction (350- 400 words)
    –       Methodology (300- 400 words)
    –       Results (500- 600 words)
    –       Discussion/Conclusion (450 – 500 words)
    –       References
    –       Appendices (if necessary)
All sections need to be included in the submission of this report otherwise marks will be lost.
The IMRD Report will test the following intended learning outcomes (ILOs):
    1.     Research a topic by reading linguistically complex academic texts and critically evaluate their effectiveness.
    2.     Synthesise information from two or more academic texts.
    3.     Use appropriate language and organisation for audience and purpose when producing academic texts.
    4.     Apply feedback and reflections in order to edit work.
    Task Instructions
You will conduct secondary research only to complete this task. For this report secondary research involves the search for information from published academic papers on the topic.
You should look back at the materials on the AALL Blackboard site to prepare for this IMRD report which will help you answer the research question.
You will also need to complete the cover sheet with details of your engagement with the feedback. This will contribute to grading of the engagement with feedback and redrafting bullet point (see Task Fulfilmentand Content column on IMRD criteria document).
What to write in the Methodology, Results and Discussion sections?
For the Methodology section you will not need to do any primary research. Instead, you will need to conduct research by finding secondary sources related to the area of problem-based learning n higher education You will write about your research process by comparing, contrasting and synthesising your findings from this research into the existing literature in this area. Outline how and why you selected your sources and what method you will use to synthesise and compare and contrast the literature.  For example, you may wish to refer to a framework you used to evaluate the suitability of the source for this task (such as PROMPT or CRAAP), and a table used to help organise information into themes (e.g. a synthesis matrix)
In the Results section of the IMRD you should present the current literature/research that exists in the field of study (problem-based learning at university) in response to the IMRD research question. You do not need to conduct any primary data yourself as in the first submission of the IMRD Report. The Results section could contain a table or synthesis matrix summarising the key points found in your sources and/or any useful data you found in your sources which will be used to support your key points.
In the Discussion section you need to outline any limitations or gaps in the literature for further investigation and any implications for the field of study.
Possible sources you might wish to consult:

    ·              Academically appropriate websites
    ·              Articles from journals
    ·              Lectures or appropriately academic TED talks
You will need to ensure you evaluate the source to ensure it is suitable for the task. You may wish to use a framework introduced on the IFP course such as PROMPT or CRAAP.
    Word Limit: 2,000 total
There is a leeway of 10% more or 10% less on word counts. So, the maximum you can write is 2,200 and the minimum is 1350.
The word limit on unit assessments includes title and subheadings, all the main text including tables and citations. The word limit excludes reference list, appendices, graphs and images, and declarations (i.e. your cover sheet).
