Assignment 2 Choose ONE of the following types of deviant behavior in American society. embezzlement, political crimes, Internet fraud, illegal drug overdose, police misconduct, antisemitism, and medical malpractice,
1. Find out as much as possible about this form of deviance and describe it in a paragraph at the beginning of your work. Be as detailed as possible; use statistics new and old here to support your description.
2. New paragraph. Why does this deviance occur? Why do people engage in this deviance? Use information from your textbook and several other published sources here to discuss the factors responsible for this type of deviance. These are the social, economic, and political, situational factors that can give rise to this form of deviance.
3. New paragraph. Who are the alleged deviants? That is, who are the individuals or groups who typically commit this type of deviant behavior? Consider the social class, race, gender, and other features of the alleged deviance. Also, who are those who are affected by the alleged deviance?
4. New paragraph. Think about the theoretical frameworks discussed in class discussions—Strain, Control, Interactionist /Labeling Theory, Conflict & Feminist Theories. Use ONE of these to discuss why this form of deviance occurs. Use a new paragraph to discuss the theory first, then use another paragraph to explain how the theory will explain the form of deviant behavior.
5. New paragraph. What can you propose as possible remedies for the form of deviance? What can the government do about it? What can the public, or wider society do to help solve the problem? Finally, is there anything that individuals can do to help solve the problem? https://www.shortcutstv.com/wp-content/uploads/202…

“The Challenges of Enslavement and the American Character: A Discussion of Phillis Wheatley and Crevecoeur’s Works”
In a 500-600 word response, discuss one of the following options:
Phillis Wheatley stands out as a unique figure in American literature as concurrently both a poet and a slave. Although Wheatley doesn’t challenge her enslavement directly, it is difficult to read her poetry without seeing her either challenge the slave trade as a practice or the position of enslaved people. Discuss how you see Phillis Wheatley making these challenges in at least two poems. Be sure you reference specific examples from the text cited using MLA style in-text citations (along with a Works Cited) and analyze how you see her challenging the status quo in those references. Responses without properly cited evidence from the poetry in each body paragraph will receive an automatic grade of F.
Crevecoeur attempts in Letter III to explain the American character and to show how it is different from Europe. If someone had never read “What is an American?” how would you explain the general American character as detailed by Crevecoeur? How is this general character different from the society and life styles found in Europe? Then, based on his biography and the historical context, why do you think Crevecoeur is drawing this distinction? Be sure you reference specific examples from the text cited using MLA style in-text citations (along with a Works Cited). Responses without properly cited evidence in each body paragraph from the assigned reading will receive an automatic grade of F. -

Fact-Checking Popular Media Source: A Critical Evaluation “The Impact of Popular Media on Perceptions of Mental Health: A Comparison of Sources”
The assignment requires you fill out this worksheet: Fact-Checking Media.docx Download Fact-Checking Media.docx
For this assignment, you will be selecting a popular media source (think verywellmind.org, Youtube, TEDtalks) and evaluating the source material. You will be required to find two peer-reviewed articles from our library. Feeling lost? Here’s a quick walkthrough video from Dr. Hawk, program coordinator, on how to access the BCCC library to access psychology databases.

Remember Part 1 of the Scientific Literacy Track? We talked about CRAAP testing. As you move forward in your education, you will likely be expected to use more primary sources (often research studies) in your work. However, it would not be efficient to always search through the bodies of research to obtain information on a topic. Therefore, we need to explore how we can better choose sources that provide accurate, useful information.
You can also check out this website for a quick refresher:

** For psychology, the guideline is to have sources that have been published (or updated) within last 5-7 years.

Please summarize the content in about a paragraph, pretend you’re explaining this to someone that hasn’t seen it before.
5 pts
Accomplished
Accomplished: You painted a clear picture with enough details and examples that someone who hadn’t looked at your source would understand. Nice work!
3 pts
Proficient/Good
You had a good start here but needed just a few more details to make it apparent what your popular media source was about. Remember: explain this to someone who has never seen the material before (or taken a psychology class)!
2 pts
Developing
Good start! More detail was needed to make it clear that you understood the material. A marker of understanding is being able to explain the topic to someone else with no knowledge in the material. I like to picture my grandma in my brain when I’m checking my own work. Would she understand this?

Title: “Management of Acute Upper Respiratory Infection in a Young Adult: A Case Study” Medications that may be prescribed/recommended for John’s condition include: 1. Decongestants: These medications help to reduce
John is a 24-year-old who presents to urgent care with a 2 week history of cough and congestion. He says it started out as a “normal cold” and it will not go away. He has a productive cough of green mucous and has green nasal discharge. He says that he has had a low-grade temperature for the past 2 days. John reports an intermittent frontal headache with this cold. He is otherwise healthy, with no known drug allergies.
The patient’s assessment is as follows:
Vital signs are stable and temperature is 99.9°F. Tympanic membranes (TMs) are clear bilaterally, pharynx is pink with no exudate, he has greenish postnasal drainage, turbinates’ are swollen and red, there is tenderness when frontal sinuses palpated, there is no cervical adenopathy, and lungs are clear.
Answer the following questions. What medications do you anticipate being prescribed/recommended and why?
What patient education would you anticipate giving the patient regarding the medications you chose? -
“Exploring Adolescent Development: A Case Study of Identity Challenges and Interventions” Case Study: “Navigating Identity Challenges in Adolescence: A Multidisciplinary Approach to Developmental Interventions” The Adolescent and their Strengths and Challenges
Create a simulated case study, relevant to your area of specialization, of an adolescent who presents developmental challenges related to Erikson’s age- or stage-related milestones expected at their age. Should have these:The adolescent and their strengths and challenges, A challenge for the adolescent in terms of identity and self-concept ,The medical, family, and social context, The developmental challenges that were evident in the behavior of the adolescent,Evidence in the case that the adolescent struggles by not meeting the expected milestones of Erikson’s theory of adolescent development,Individual and cultural factors that theory and/or research indicate could impact the adolescent’s development,Any other factors you deem appropriate based on your understanding of the theory and related research. To develop this case, you should: Explore theory and research related to development linked to adolescence,Utilize current research on adolescent brain development to describe potential outcomes linked to brain development at this age, including important considerations in the case you are developing,Develop your case study further by creating an environmental context for the adolescent. Include any specific issues that you want to explore through research, such as influences of a specific culture or ethnicity or specific socioeconomic status.
Research evidence-based interventions that have been effective in meeting the challenges of the adolescent you described in your case study, from the perspective of your own professional specialization (as far as possible).
Explain how the deficits in the social-emotional developmental domain impact development.
Explain how the environmental contexts impact development.
State the recommended interventions that align with your specialization.
Include evidence for those recommendations and outcomes from the professional literature.
Explore briefly the literature on adult identity and self-concept, considering that early influences can impact development across the lifespan.
Explain, from the perspective of your specialization, how the identity issues (for example, Erikson’s theoretical perspective) that emerged in adolescence could be manifested in adulthood.
Explain how this might help in understanding and determining an approach to working with an adult with a history of identity issues.
