This assignment is meant for you to explore ciminal justice issues that are current and to spend some time looking at the ACLU website which has trending topics in the area of criminal justice. I am not asking you to agree or disagree with the information and opinions on this website, but I want you to explore the information available on the website. We are going to do a “scavenger” hunt. Please follow the steps below to complete the “scavenger” hunt and complete the blog assignment. As always let me know if you have questions. You will upload the assignment to Canvas.
Go to the ACLU website – Go to the Issues Menu- Select one of the topics in the drop down box that relates to criminal justice- You are now ready to go on a “scavenger” hunt. For your scavenger hunt, each item I have asked you to “hunt” is located in a box that says search whatever issue you selected.
1) Hunt down a blog that interests you that you deals with the issue that you selected. For example, if you selected capital punishment, you will find several blog posts that relate to the death penalty in various states. Select a blog for whatever issue you selected and read it. In your assignment that you post, write the name and the date of the blog post that you selected.
2) Hunt down a video that pertains to the issue that you selected. Watch it. In your assignment, write the name and date of the video that you watched.
3) Hunt down a news press release that relates to the issue that you selected . Read it. In your assignment, write the name and date of the press realease.
4) Hunt down a court case that deals with the issue that you selected. Read it. In your assignment, write the name and date of the court case.
5) Finally, select a report about the topic. Review it. In your assignment, write the name and date of thereport.
6) Finally, to complete your “scavenger” hunt, you need to take all of the material that you have “found” during your hunt and write a blog. You may name the blog whatever you choose. This is an opinion piece, but you must cite something from the blog, video, press release, court case and report to support what you are stating in the blog. Make sure to use APA style. I am not going to assign a specific length for your blog, but it does need to be longer than a paragraph and contain all the elements that I have asked you to cite.
